In all the other Star Trek shows there is a group of characters that is focused on and the only other people seen are occasional extras or guest stars. In DS9 there was a big expanded cast that had great character development and I think the fact that it was set on a space station where people could come and go as they pleased added to this. it also seemed more real, the conflict and everything.
Fact of the matter is, Babylon 5 really does look like a 90s show. When they video communicate, it actually looks like a video tape (with tracking, bad quality video, etc). DS9 looks like an actual futuristic video call system, not a video tape with a hidden vcr.
if anything Babylon 5 lets you hear the actor's footsteps on the cardboard set, no humming sound on the ship, bad acting, aliens with strange hair that have European accents, a lame wormhole... can anyone add to the list?
this is the only star trek series that made me cry in parts. the acting is so real in ds9, i just wish it was noticed more than voyager or enterprise.

Just finished watching "The Visitor" from S4:E2. It is the most heart-wrenching storytelling I've watched in a long time. Kudos to the production team and cast. They've made the best possible use of the Sci-Fi genre and taken it to the highest level with DS9!

they fucked up here. in season 6 there was no federation on ds9 for like 7 episodes. they could have done something different for a while. like show dominion and cardasian ships around the station. just me.
@danny2581ii It could have been called "Quark's place" lol... the theme song would be "Come to Quark's! Quark's is fun! Come right now! Don't walk! RUN!"
@tripdefect87 I wish they gave Sisko some kind of opening..."Space the final frontier these are the voyages of the federation Starbase Deep Space Nine, its continuing mission to explore strange new worlds beyond an intergalactic wormhole, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to bodly go where no one has gone before".....It would have been epic.....
@IndianPhatLute The station may have stayed in one spot but the crew did explore space just like any other Star Trek show. Its strengths were its well written characters and a story arc's and bodly going where no Star Trek show has gone before in its ideas and content.
@Usul573 Yep.....Voyages......They explored just as many as any Trek. There were episodes confined to the station but on the the other shows some episodes were confined to the ship. If you saw it, you would know it.

@Gonnakillyou Personally, I've always liked 'Terran' more ('Terra' just sounds...cooler then 'Earth' does, somehow. Although 'Oceanus' would actually be the most sensible name. I fail to see the logic in calling a planet that's basically 75% water-covered variations on the word 'Dirt'...)

Best ST series, but I never liked this song. It's however still better than the Enterprise song, which was just awful. Think I've seen this series 4 times now.

@kwisi i thought it was the worst, to be honest.. the first 2 seasons were tolerable and the 3rd one was rather good but the final season was downright horrible! all in all enterprise left me with an empty feeling in my stomach.
ds9 still gets my vote as fav trek series, no doubt about that.
In my humble opinion, this sound track saved Star Trek, musically. It breathes where there is no air. It sails where there is sailing... the full boquet of angelic resonance... pumping life into the darkness of eternal space.
This song makes me imagine the story's of the past. I wonder if their is anyone alive who can visit or see them long ago in their glory... oh well I guess they have quiet a gift who ever they are!
STAR TREK: a journey through the stars.... that is what i dont like about DS9. where is the adventure on a stationary space station? im only on season 2 but that is what bothers me so far
@MrHoppers002 yeah. When curious people ask me if they should watch DS9 or not, I usually give them a standard one page synthesis for the first three series, then I suggest them to start watching from the fourth.
Hi, I am working on a documentary (Normalization process between the PRC and US) and we would love to use this song as background music. However, it is too well known and "would be distracting" according to our judges. Anyone have any similar songs? We want something that is not too intense, dark, or sad. Thanks :)

GOSHDARNIT!!! I can't believe the Star Wars Republic couldn't have this as their National music. Thumbs up for Star Trek!!! Although, both franchises do work together in some ways, secretively.....
I loved everything about this show, from the Odo and Quark relationship, to the character development of Garak and Gul Dukat and the root beer and self sealing stem bolts.
Very simply the best, most fully realized series of all the Star Trek canon. I remember the first time I saw the first episode. I thought, "This is different: a conflicted central character put into a peace keeping operation? Wow!"
frankly,i wish Berman were still involved with the movies,so we wouldnt be forced into this revisionist history bullshit being shoved down our throats
The new generation is by far the best Star Trek show ever made. The only good thing about DS9 is the opening. The rest ? Pure treason of Rodenberry's vision and work. Simple as that. It is not Star Trek, just a bad written fanfiction. If you want a good show about a space station just watch Babylon 5, now that's interesting stuff.
And please explain to us based on your special insight to Gene Roddenberry's personal vision how you know that this series "turned against Gene Roddenberry's vision", taking into account that Roddenberry selected Rick Berman to create TNG (which you are so fond of) and later took over the franchise in season 3 when Roddenberry became ill? DS9 is far from fan fiction. It is cannon. If you don't like it you don't like it. But you are *not* the final arbitrator of what is or is not Star Trek.
@capitalmindz I'm sorry but Rick Berman drove star trek into the ground and almost killed the franchise. Thank god that he was replaced with someone who hit the reset button on the franchise as there was just too much muck and conflicting story lines to repair it in the direction it was going...
@Dataiscool123456789 Except for DS9. It was so much better than TNG. When I watch TNG today, it feels so dated, simplistic and one-dimensional, unlike DS9.
Martok, Gowron, Dukat and Garak were the best supporting characters of all 5 series. there were some good one from other series like Q or Tomalak but those 4 are the best by far
Season six made nice improvements on an already-awesome intro. I liked the addition of the ships coming and going, the little welder-guys stuck on the pylons- Just the everyday going-ons of the station that we usually never got to see. I also LOVED the small changes to the music, especially the subtle tempo/beat thing added to the background, which also added to the idea of the station being "alive" with movement and activity, more so than the previous seasons' intros.
u know what sucks. cuz of the new star trek movie, chances r we will never see a ds9 or voyager movie be made. cuz now fans and non star trek fans only wanna see new star trek movies made with the cast of 2009. plus since the time line has changed, no one knows what new lives the 24th cent. star trek people will lead. so that changes everything we saw on the shows. which totally sucks, also when r we getting a new star trek show???
Best Trek show by a distance. The 7 year story arc was very ambitious and superbly realised, especially from then of season 2 onwards. Fun, action packed and deep; we still miss it.
@therealeverton although not my favourite of the Star Trek's I do owe DS9na lot of gratitued for getting me into this franchise my Fsvourite is TNG but it was DS9 thast got me interestedyeah it weas ambitious but from what I read into what the writers said on the DV|D's they didn't intend it to go that wayriginally it just did in the end but I think it became an interesting story thanks to it becoming like that
@shootbinary shut your face, man star trek ,stargate and starwars are the best of the best in the sci-fi history, no be happy that i don't blow you up with a death star. and why do you even watch this if you hate it ?
One of the best and only Star Treks that were on the level of Next Generation. Such a shame most Tv stations are cheap asses, and don''t want too put the series back on air again. Hopefully I'll get the box set this X-mas.
This is the music that I liked the most of all Star Trek statements. Angels didn't need space ships either, Captain Kirk... The original gemstone perfecction of the heavens where the light bearing creatures were motivated by the spiritual qualites of Love, Wisdom, Life, Glory, ..
yep, I have to say I enjoyed deep sapce 9 the best out of all the star trek series.

It's not important whether you like the most DS9 or TNG or TOS. What is important is that you don't like sparkling emo vampires.

@arna11420 Agreed. Its important to stay focused on what is important :)

STAR TREK: a journey through the stars.... that is what i dont like about DS9. where is the adventure on a stationary space station? im only on season 2 but that is what bothers me so far
Kottonism 10 months ago
@Kottonism It gets better!

season 5-7 are the best parts of ds9.
MrHoppers002 10 months ago 9
@MrHoppers002 I'd add season 4 also. But yes the how just got better...
Neomac316 5 months ago
ds9 was awesome when the dominion war storyline was in effect.
MrHoppers002 5 months ago 2
@MrHoppers002 no i thought seasons 3-6 were the best parts
elcap22 3 months ago
Basically DS9 is attached to the dominion arc. Any time before that it's basically TNG on a space station.
MrHoppers002 3 months ago
@MrHoppers002 yeah. When curious people ask me if they should watch DS9 or not, I usually give them a standard one page synthesis for the first three series, then I suggest them to start watching from the fourth.
gd11988 1 month ago
I think ds9 was really great when they changed to the tng movie uniforms. season 5-7 were perfect.

It literally hurts me to realize that these people don't exist, and that I'll never see any of them again.
I just tell myself that they'll be real in about 400 years.

Has anyone noticed how all of these actors have awesome names? Like, freaking "Rene Auberjonois", so legit! :D
DS9 is my fav Star Trek Series, it really took the franchise in a new direction and expanded the level of depth that Star Trek has been known for.

I loved everything about this show, from the Odo and Quark relationship, to the character development of Garak and Gul Dukat and the root beer and self sealing stem bolts.

Star Trek DS9 is An All Time Classic. Great Episodes and the best of all the Star Trek Series.
whispperson 1 year ago 4
one of the greatest series in tv ever! I miss that!
freddust1986 1 year ago 2
Very simply the best, most fully realized series of all the Star Trek canon. I remember the first time I saw the first episode. I thought, "This is different: a conflicted central character put into a peace keeping operation? Wow!"
AceinIN 1 year ago 3
I think it's funny how Stargate took to the same pattern Star Trek did.
Original Star Trek and TNG are like Stargate SG-1: "seek out new life and civilization"
Deep Space 9 is like Stargate Atlantis, as the focus centered around a base or station.
Then Voyager is like Stargate Universe, both of them in a stranded ship looking for a way back home.
Both Star Trek and Stargate are great, mind you, I just find the similarities kinda interesting.
koolgool 1 year ago
@koolgool you make a valid point... exploration, stationary (space stations/base station), lost on voyages...
MrConundrum2020 1 year ago
frankly,i wish Berman were still involved with the movies,so we wouldnt be forced into this revisionist history bullshit being shoved down our throats

Next generation i mean of course, lol, sorry.
RebelAdmiral 1 year ago
The new generation is by far the best Star Trek show ever made. The only good thing about DS9 is the opening. The rest ? Pure treason of Rodenberry's vision and work. Simple as that. It is not Star Trek, just a bad written fanfiction. If you want a good show about a space station just watch Babylon 5, now that's interesting stuff.
RebelAdmiral 1 year ago
@RebelAdmiral Babylon 5 doesnt have Quark :L

But you are *not* the final arbitrator of what is or is not Star Trek.
capitalmindz 1 year ago
@capitalmindz I'm sorry but Rick Berman drove star trek into the ground and almost killed the franchise. Thank god that he was replaced with someone who hit the reset button on the franchise as there was just too much muck and conflicting story lines to repair it in the direction it was going...
Yewon2001 1 year ago
@RebelAdmiral I consider TOS to be the best. TNG was ok. The rest are crap.
fajner1 1 year ago
@Dataiscool123456789 Except for DS9. It was so much better than TNG. When I watch TNG today, it feels so dated, simplistic and one-dimensional, unlike DS9.

Could not get into this series at first but as of Season 5 it turned me around on it and it became one of the best shows on TV at the time.
Jerry74 1 year ago
Martok, Gowron, Dukat and Garak were the best supporting characters of all 5 series. there were some good one from other series like Q or Tomalak but those 4 are the best by far
dorfpomeranze 1 year ago 3
Season six made nice improvements on an already-awesome intro. I liked the addition of the ships coming and going, the little welder-guys stuck on the pylons- Just the everyday going-ons of the station that we usually never got to see. I also LOVED the small changes to the music, especially the subtle tempo/beat thing added to the background, which also added to the idea of the station being "alive" with movement and activity, more so than the previous seasons' intros.
Toobulations 1 year ago
u know what sucks. cuz of the new star trek movie, chances r we will never see a ds9 or voyager movie be made. cuz now fans and non star trek fans only wanna see new star trek movies made with the cast of 2009. plus since the time line has changed, no one knows what new lives the 24th cent. star trek people will lead. so that changes everything we saw on the shows. which totally sucks, also when r we getting a new star trek show???

@Coollimes
The very beginning is double basses, but the first iteration of the main motif is yes, horns.

Best Trek show by a distance. The 7 year story arc was very ambitious and superbly realised, especially from then of season 2 onwards. Fun, action packed and deep; we still miss it.
therealeverton 1 year ago
@therealeverton although not my favourite of the Star Trek's I do owe DS9na lot of gratitued for getting me into this franchise my Fsvourite is TNG but it was DS9 thast got me interestedyeah it weas ambitious but from what I read into what the writers said on the DV|D's they didn't intend it to go that wayriginally it just did in the end but I think it became an interesting story thanks to it becoming like that

One of the best and only Star Treks that were on the level of Next Generation. Such a shame most Tv stations are cheap asses, and don''t want too put the series back on air again. Hopefully I'll get the box set this X-mas.
