Ah, it's been years since I saw A New Day! I went to see it 13 times and I have five of those roses dried out, to this day. When I was 9 (I'm now 17, almost ready for college), it was Mother's Day and I went with my family to the show. We sat in the front row and at the end of the show, she came down and handed me the rose, which was given to her by the mime dancer during curtain call. I just about died when she hugged me <3 This happened four other times over the years.
Celin sings in NAPOLITAN's LANGUAGE...the language of a Mystic city, Neaples...the language who tell us about the history, the pain, the joy...this is the language of a city who have the sky, the sea and a air of magics...the one and only city who have a own language is know in all the world...the one and only...
@JulianOJay Hi...this is a typical Napolitan Song, wich tells us of "Pulcinella" an ancient mask of Naples...Pulcinella play a "Serenata" to a beautiful girl...Serenata is an traditional usage of napolitan's people who singing a song to their lovers under the window from wich She will show...I'm sorry for my Bad English... I think Celine fans love seeing her doing anything coreographed, even just walking out on stage like this with the other dancers, I think she would have made a wonderful dancer too, her posture and expression are so graceful and beautiful to look at
Maybe my reaction is out of place. Was never a fan of Celine. But after seeing this dvd, i must say that i don`t know much singers who sing that perfect live as she does. she has all of my respect. And if it wasn`t for her iv even never would have heard this beautiful song.. and being from holland, i don`t speak Italian neither neapolitan. Iv now heard the original (Mario Castiglia) as well. I don`t think u can compare them. I like them both.
I can understand Tommaso, I am also Italian, but we had not make the opposite error and not to consider a singer because he is successful.Celine Dion is successful and she is a good singer. I believe that Italians are happy hear her songs a song in Neapolitan, it is normal. Her execution is enough good, she cannot be perfect, but it is believable. I think she worked hard to be this, so she needt respect for this.
The show is a only show in Las Vegas, in vegas style, it seems inspired to the Cirques de soleil, it doesn't have anything to do with Naples and the song, but it is only a show in Las Vegas. Even if d it seem to me that the scene represents Piazza del Plebiscito, or I am wrong?
Hi Xilpox, ahh that makes more sense re the Vegas style show! I suppose things in vegas do always take on a slightly more elaborate feel than is perhaps necessary! :)
I dont think its plebiscito tho, since that piazza is spherical, and the scene that forms the backdrop to the aforementioned performance is square, tho it does look like a typical naples back drop!
Thanks again, for the clarification, tho the mimes still scare the crap outa me!
PS - i was being quite diplomatic, i could have asked what all the scary little circus mimes, and people dressed like extras from Les Misérables walking round like zombies are doing, since it has nothing to do with the song, and taken the piss out of sundry other things. But i didnt, because i dont like pissing on other peoples tastes. But to reiterate i was just curious whether the italians had heard the original.
please tell me the italians among you (Fellinian and Celine), are joking. Have either of you heard the original version of this song, sung by Mario Castiglia, its almost sacrilege to say that nobody can sing it with more passion, if you have heard his version. She absolutely murders this song.
And speaking as a neapolitan, who grew up speaking the dialect, her accent is painful.
For a not native it is very hard to reproduce the sound of the dialect. You also listen to great Italian singers as Pavarotti, their Neapolitan is often wrong.
Somtimes i sing napolitan song and i have problem with some sound. To be a not Neapolitan and not Italian singer Celine Dion surprisingly did a very good job.
That's true, Pavarotti, ANdrea Bocelli and alike do mis-pronounce a lot of words when singing in dialect, however at least then sound italian. BUt im really not criticising her failure to sound neapolitan. Im just a bit surprised that an italian, being surrounded by some truly amazing singers (even in the milieu of pop, eg Bocelli, Alessandro Safina, Gigi FInizio etc...) would chose to revere Madame Dion!
Hi, I'm neapolitan ! It's hard even for me to sing in old neapolitan dialect...but afetr all she did a good job..I loved the arrangemnt..she could have save some vibratos or high notes taht were absolutely useless...Neapolitan song are to be sand with ur hear =)
you are painful just to read/ WHY DOn't U FUCK OFF AND LET a GREAT SINGER who has sold more than 200 MILLION ALBUMS SOLD and won MORE THAN 1 THOUSAND AWARDS SING HER SONG???
Haha, charming tennis. What an open-minded attitude. Other people are entitled to different opinions, its what makes the world interesting you sad little person. All I was saying is that to an Italian surely the original sounds better.
But you clearly have issues, and are one of those blind-to-reality, die-hard fans, so Ill leave you to your delusions.
Just because she sold loads of albums doesn't mean that she's good. It just means people are dumb enough to buy them.
...and mind you people are dumb enough to buy into lots of things. Take William Hung for example. Or 50 Cent. Or Ashlee Simpson. The list goes on and on.
There is a difference between selling lots of albums and being the best selling female artist of all time. She has had a successful 30 year career and, not to be cruel, but sh'es not the prettiest girl and people still love her. If she sells records and she's not a skank, beautiful or in the tabloids, she muct sell because of her TALENT!
is this Italian dialect? I understand Italian but some words of this song are unfamiliar to me. I thought it was Romanian but then it turned out to be Italian...so I guess it must be very old Italian or a dialect.

Having to keep their love for each other a secret for so long this is a perfect song for Celine and it is so impecable...it is so fitting... love it ...beautifully done but that is no surprise...stunning performance
I saw Celine's show 5 or 6 times...Everytime I saw it with new eyes. Whether you understand her french, english or italian songs or not it really doesn't matter, her presence is impeccable and that show is incredible...She truely makes "universal music"!
MAGNIFIQUE !!!
I love this live !!!! this song as u should know is played in neapolitan!!and I'm from neaples!!! I was shocked when I saw this almost 2 years ago on tv...she realized one of my dreams!! thanks really really much celine!! ^^
It's an italian song. Celine sung the second part of the song called "AMMORE ANNASCUNNUTO" Many years for this world and many to come If I may and If I were patient enough That's the way we are We fall in love till we cry There's nothing and no one I could wish more than you Sorry for not writing you anymore But You know I went there not for dying I always do something And I can't get enough of it About all I left behind About all it happened In this hidden love

E' superba, divina! Grazie Celine e W Napoli!
farrelleto 3 years ago 6
