watched this movie recently and i'm completely shocked with what these 2 girls did and how extremely much they loved each other and how close they were 2 each other and does anyone know if these girls had like a mental problem because i'm wondering how the world they pictured and the characters they made up took over their reality and i honestly believe they lost all since of reality and couldn't tell the difference i between there fantasy and real life..
About the Parker Hulme murder case, 1954, Christchurch New Zealand. The two girls you see, Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme, 16, murdered Pauline's mother because they thought she stood in the way of their friendship (or love, not clear what is was). This was true, but in fact Juliet's father was far more the problem. It was big news in the 50's. They got 5 years imprisonment, not more because of their young age. Juliet is now writer Anne Perry. You can find a lot of information on internet.
The story of pauline and juliet kind of remind me of me and my best friend cydnee. We've been best friends since we were 6, a total of 12 years. completely inseparable. So much so that even our families have become permantly interconnected. And a lot of people accused of us of being lesbians in junior high and highschool, but I just think most people don't understand our kind of bond, and will never experience it themselves. Im just glad our moms never tried to seperate us.
The worst scene of the movie was the boat scene.I mean emotionally anyway. The way they're both screaming out to one another is awful.Like you've just lost everything that meant something to you.
Of course the worst scene visually was the murder scene.
you know, everytime i see any scene of this movie, i feel my soul hurting. its a disturbing sensation. its not a pain in the heart, a feeling of injustice or melancholy. its a pain, really strong pain in my soul. very deep and it makes me cry everytime. i could never describe this sensation. its so horrible, but it also feels so much like home. and this video made me bleed inside right now.

I don't know; at first I felt so bad for the girls but obviously towards the end I felt really bad for the mother. I think that is the hardest, saddest part about this story (because it's true)- the space between the tragedy of the girl's story and the tragedy of the mother's death was so marred and blurry.

I have to watch this film now after watching this clip, it looks lovely. A very special girl got me to watch this. She is truely a heavenly creature if ever you met one, she is unbelievably close to my heart although that's now breaking because we have to be apart. It would be impossible to forget the times we shared though, they will stay with me forever because it was all so special and magical.

I LUV THIS MOVIE <3...I saw the real "Juliet and Pauline" and I still can't get over what them girls did 0.0...I luve how the movie really stuck to what really happened :)...but I still have an unanswered question...Did them girls start to go insane and loose their grip on reality? She did not see the movie but criticized the director for producing trash. Perry later backpeddled but will not discuss the murder except to say that she thought that she was helping out her friend who was in a bad situation. Yeah..everyone kills their friend's mother because she didn't approve of the relationship. Perry kills in print now.
This is one of Peter Jackson's finest works...Kate and Melanie are so young and so skillful with their portrayal of forbidden love and how its suppression can unleash violent insanity when its lurking just under the surface.
It is so sad with the way the two of them ended up.
I feel like a lot of people wouldn't understand the kind of relationship they had, and they were being forced out of it. I also feel like most people in a relationship, any relationship, don't feel the way that those two girls felt about each other.

They are both still alive. They were found out, the diaries were found, the brick in the sock was found. They were too young for the death sentence and was sent to jail and left there for 5 years. They pleaded insane but they were rejected. The movie is very close to the real story. They were not allowed to see each other again, still haven't seen each other......

I LUV THIS MOVIE <3...I saw the real "Juliet and Pauline" and I still can't get over what them girls did 0.0...I luve how the movie really stuck to what really happened :)...but I still have an unanswered question...Did them girls start to go insane and loose their grip on reality? Cause what I got from all of this is that their fantasy "in their minds" was blending in with reality? So i'm really confused on all of that? n e answers lol?

I think that they got so deep in their own world that reality, right and wrong got lost. Juliet is now the mystery writer Ann Perry. She did not see the movie but criticized the director for producing trash. Perry later backpeddled but will not discuss the murder except to say that she thought that she was helping out her friend who was in a bad situation. Yeah..everyone kills their friend's mother because she didn't approve of the relationship. Perry kills in print now.

This is one of Peter Jackson's finest works...Kate and Melanie are so young and so skillful with their portrayal of forbidden love and how its suppression can unleash violent insanity when its lurking just under the surface.

It is so sad with the way the two of them ended up.
I feel like a lot of people wouldn't understand the kind of relationship they had, and they were being forced out of it. I also feel like most people in a relationship, any relationship, don't feel the way that those two girls felt about each other.

The amazing thing is.
They are both still alive. They were found out, the diaries were found, the brick in the sock was found. They were too young for the death sentence and was sent to jail and left there for 5 years. They pleaded insane but they were rejected. The movie is very close to the real story. They were not allowed to see each other again, still haven't seen each other......
