@mickerin64 Minnie was a hill billy. As someone else mentioned Sarah Orphelia Cannon who played Minnie was a lady. She received an English Degree from Vanderbilt & was a teacher before she started performing. I toured the Ryman this week & they said Sarah made a big point of the fact she and Minnie were not the same person. In fact Minnie's tribute at the hall of fame doesn't have a death date at her request. She said she as Sarah may die but Minnie would live in forever.
Minnie Pearl, Rod Brassfield, Jerry Clower, Justin Wilson. We will never see this quality of comedy this side of heaven. They could make you laugh so hard it hurt without being vulgar. They are now performing in Heaven
Jerry Clower had to be one of the funniest men ever. I heard him a few days ago on a SIrius comedy channel and I literally laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. He was an artist when it came to telling a story.
@mikeyramone74: I have a lot of Clower cassette tapes and some CD's. I'm a big fan of Ray Stevens. Ray, Jerry Clower, and Minnie Pearl did a recording together in 1986 called "Southern Air". It appears on Ray's album. Jerry plays the part of the captain while Minnie plays the stewardess. Ray plays the part of the nervous passenger.

I first saw Minnie perform at a church convention in St. Paul, Minnesota,
way back in the 1950s. She came onstage in her country get up w/
the price tag dangling from her hat. The crowd was laughing before she
said a word.
Read her biography some years ago. As some posters have mentioned,
she wasn't really a hillbilly. She sure was fun though.
Tnx 4 posting.

Sarah Cannon (Minnie Pearl) made her own clothes just like everyone else from the hills at that time....

I'm not sure Minnie was from the hills--I'm pretty sure she was a Vanderbilt College graduate.
