  • I love mirrage! Check out my channel for the video.

  • I had the MBA till a few days back, and it was awesome, the only thing why i switched to the MBP were the Diskdrive and more connecting options ... ! The Macbook Air is Fast and good and i nerver had Problems with it running any "bigger" software ...

  • Chrome :D

  • never had a Mac... :(

  • @Sterling1426

It's amazing to have a Mac. I do miss Windows 7 from time to time.

  • @GamesAndTechTV I've never had Windows 7 either :(

  • First thing I install is Final Cut, Motion, etc. :P

  • that macbook air looks "cool" in videos, but in reality that thing is crap heat & more heat.

  • Hey Matt, I'm thinking of getting a Mac Laptop/Notebook.. Which would you recommend best for editing video and just an all around computer... the MacBook Pro or the Air?

  • @Broseph808 get a macbook air

  • the fist think i install are ilife iWork, final cut, spotify candybar and i spend quite a lot of time tweaking all the settings. Also I think you should do some motion tutorials etc i really want to learn how the program works!

  • How much of an upgrade is Photoshop CS5 from Elements 10? And then what would be the advantages of having PSD Extended?

  • why use aperture when you have photoshop?

  • google chrome then flash

  • Well done. Thanks for the info.

I think I'll be patient and wait for the next release of the MacBook Air 13". Hopefully Apple will up the RAM to 8GB. Still everyday, I'm tempted to go out and buy the existing one. In the case of storing large files, I'll be using my 1TB external.

  • @Vikingdescendent I am going to do the same, i hope they upgrade the macbook air.

But if they did not then i will also look at the pro 13

  • I still can't manage to put a clickable link on it???

  • How do you put links at the end of the video? Thanks

  • @HBFXKing Its a feature on YouTube called Annotations

  • @MattsMacintosh

is there a way to remove dock on an iphone and ipad..???

  • @cooldude7o7 In the Apple AppStore there isn't but you can try cydia.

  • @cooldude7o7 probably...by jailbreaking

  • @HBFXKing DISLIKE

  • screenflow, dropbox, twiiter, spotify and evenote and for camera fun , Motion FX

  • iStatPro

gotta see the temperature of my Mac at all times

  • What's your second channel?

  • First apps I go for are Caffeine, Evernote and Spotify. Then follows the Office suite and Toast Titanium (although that last one isn't gonna be much use on the air I'm getting in acouple of days, hah!). Plex and Sublime Text X follows closely, and then it's pretty much random after that.

  • first thing i install? firefox via safari. after firefox is installed i remove safari from my dock.

  • @Th33M33 YAH YA!

  • @Th33M33 Same thing with IE on Windows hahah

  • @Th33M33 Thats me but with crome

  • how to make lion look like tiger

  • How do i download mirage ?? :S every time i try the installation fails !! :'C

  • I highly recommend "app cleaner" especially for a macbook air. Last night in 2 hours worth of work I open about 90GB of HDD space by deleting .dmg files and old apps that have no use and just make it hard to be organized. App Cleaner does that job great

  • Transmission lol

  • Hello Matt! I've got your own MacBook Air. It is normal that when I use Final Cut X, the fans start spinning? Sorry for my bad English. Congratulations for your videos ... I really like it!

  • Hows the 60d for stills ? im looking for my first dslr for photography and filmmaking :)

  • My essential apps: - Firefox - Spotify - Perian for Quicktime - Fstream - Skype - Plex - Pixelmator - Open Office - Microsoft Remote Desktop Client - iStat Menus

  • does mirage completely eliminate ur dock or can u get it back if u want?

  • @thesofakillers You can get it back.

  • Clean my Mac

  • VLC

  • what's your second channel? I want to subcribe!

  • do you work for TechnoBuffalo or did you just do the os wars?

  • Hey matt I'm running lion on a 2008 iMac ever since I upgraded to lion everything is slower and laggier maybe because of my Mac

  • UTorrent!!

  • And Matt what do you think canon 7d or 60d?

  • @FullHD911 7D for stills, 60D for video.

  • @MattsMacintosh How can i make a good YouTube video like you any help i have is MacBook Pro 13inch 2011 ????? that will be nice :D

  • Matt could you please tell me will mirage work with os x lion?

  • @FullHD911 he's running osx Lion on his Macbook air...

  • Hey Matt :)

I am plaining switching from my macbook (late 08) to the new Macbook Air.

I use it for school, music, browsing, Aperture(little) and all that stuff. But like you I you I also some times do video. (FCPX & Motion5).

This macbook can run both application, but are laggy.

Do you think the macbook air can keep up on that (and more too)? I got a 2GHz IntelCoreDou in this machine.

Did you ever feel under your test "My god this is taking looooong time".

  • Right now I have on my MacBook Pro:

    - Dropbox & CloudApp

    - iLife '11 package

    - PhotoSync

    - CleanMyMac

    - JDownloader

    - The Unarchiver

    Games:

    - Call of Duty: Black Ops

    - Modern Combat: Domination

  • Love the tune @ the end of your videos, who is it ?

  • Buy me a Mac and I'll tell you exactly what i install when I get it.

  • Im trying to figure wether to get the best air or the highest 15 in with the upgrade high res screen? I want to download music and video and photos. I was just thinking the pro what you think?

  • I'm thinking about buying MBA as my main computer. The only "more professional" applications I use are Aperture and Photoshop for some photo organisation and editing. Disk space is not that of an issue as I can always use external hard drive if I want to move stuff around. Could you please share some thoughts on performance of those applications. Thanks

  • @thomasuk01 I think they run great. There is a little delay when handling large RAW files, but I would say it performs the same or better than my 2009 iMac.

  • @thomasuk01 I Highly recommend you to buy the MacBook Air, it's amazingly fast.

  • @MrAgenteJ Thanks. Decided to go with MBP 13" i7, 8GB RAM and 256SSD instead. How much I do love the idea of MacBook Air, deciding factor was that Lion is RAM hungry and 4GB going forward (year or two) won't be sufficient. Really hope that next generation MBP will be more like Air.

  • Skype, Screenflow, HandBrake, VLC

  • Love my new 11" MacBook Air... Except for the wifi issues... Can't tell if this is Lion or just the Air....

  • Matt, you are awesome! Final Cut Pro X is very awesome! I am not a pro-editor and I went with your advice and got FCP 10. So far, its amazing!

  • Make longer videos Matt!!

  • quicksilver

  • I'm jealous of everyone who has a mac.

  • Awesome video. I usually install productivity apps first followed by graphics apps like photoshop.

  • I don't even have a Mac...

  • Hey Matt, I'm having an issue with final cut pro X, I'm running it on Lion on a late 2008 MacBook, every time I export videos I get a popping effect through the entire video, why? =S

  • @Webcam9000 What do you mean by "popping"? Like video skipping? Or an audio pop?

  • @MattsMacintosh Audio popping throughout the entire video, but only on export never in the project

  • @Webcam9000 Don't make your project surround sound, make it stereo. That should fix it.

  • @MattsMacintosh Alas even in stereo the problem persists, It may well be the microphone I'm using, doing a test with my built in mic the problem does not occur, but this wouldn't explain why the sound in the project is crystal clear and the export not... I'm very confused...

  • Movist for video files.

  • I got a new MacBook air i7 heheheheh

  • your music always remind me of spongeBob Squarepants :)

  • windows JUST SAYING

  • Thanks for the Mirage Dock! I really like it!

  • geekanoids intro sound :|

  • Very nice Matt

  • Ahahaha. Sorry, just had to laugh to myself that somebody was actually commenting on your (correct) grammar as opposed to the content in the video. Get a hobby man. Anyways, awesome video as always Matt, your camera work is getting more and more stellar with every upload.

  • This video just inspired me to do my own "What's on my ___" :D

  • my macbook pro is full of porn I should make an awesome video and show you guys

  • I download skype first and mobile mouse server

  • nm

  • Is the dock invisible in Lion?

  • You might know Dave from Geekanoids who's also a Youtube reviewer about mostly Apple products. He lives in the UK and just uploaded a video that's in the same sort of topic or I should say Title as this video. It won't let me share the link here, but if you guys could look it up, you'll see what I'm talking about. Thank you.

  • how can i get the invisible dock?

  • And also, sir, please don't delete my other comments as well. When people read through them, it makes one sounds like a bad guy and other people starts bashing on them. Thank you.

  • Hey Matt, How can I find/download Soundtrack Pro for Final Cut?

  • @Cyclonexman It was a part of Final CUt Studio, which isn't for sale anymore through Apple. You can still find used copies and new ones from third party sellers, though.

  • @MattsMacintosh Such as?

  • mirage link asap please can only find 1.0.1 not 2.0 thx

  • @Tomato64Mr It does use up quite a bit of RAM =[

Anyway, I love the Twitter app. Besides that Chrome is really the only necessity.

  • are you doing any give-aways anytime soon?

  • @OfficialDJL Nope. I probably won't do giveaways anymore unless its in support of a charity.

  • @Tomato64Mr RAM is probably the easiest and cheapest upgrade you can make. A 4GB kit is only about $50-$60

  • I want a Macbook air sooo bad!

  • You seem to be using FCP 10 alot! Do you really like it better than FCP 7?

  • @MaddogTheRobot I like FCP 10 a lot more than FCP 7. It does everything I need faster and better.

  • @MattsMacintosh So would you recommend it to anyone? Because I use FCP 7 and I heard about FCP 10 getting blasted for all of these terrible features and bugs. I did see your video about it.

  • @MaddogTheRobot I haven't seen any "terrible features and bugs". A small minority of people that blasted it did so because they needed certain aspects of FCP 7 that aren't in 10. The majority of people that blasted it just jumped on the bandwagon. Unless you work with physical media or broadcast television, or are heavily invested in CS, FCP X is the best editing program out there

  • @MattsMacintosh Thank you so much for your advice!

  • @MaddogTheRobot No problem

  • I like GrandPerspective for managing disk space, and it's free.

  • @pixeltater I'll have to check that out.

  • The lighting in your videos is SO NICE! So easy on the eyes 8)

  • Grammar Police; "What's *in My MacBook". Nothing is actually *on your MacBook. Everything else is inside it. Sorry. Don't dislike this coz I made a correction. We all know you're good videographer but everybody makes errors especially when it comes to grammar.

  • @OneGoodCompany I'm going to have to completely disagree. "On" is the common phrasing for software. No one says "What twitter app is in your iPhone?" or "What version of Windows is in your PC?"

  • @OneGoodCompany You wouldn't say "I run OS X Lion in my Mac"

Technically, you're right, but really, nah

  • @OneGoodCompany It is not grammatically incorrect either. Software is abstract, it doesn't exist in any space. What's "in" the computer is silicon and capacitors. The software could be "in" the disk drive or "on" the screen. It is not in any way grammatically incorrect to say an app is "on" a computer (my minor is in English).

  • @MattsMacintosh Abstract or not, sir Matt, the rule still applies. The preposition "On" is used when there are no boundaries. When something or someone is actually "On" something. A surface or what have you. While the preposition "In" is always used when there are boundaries or walls. A good example would be "in a room". So, being that you're using a computer, which is a MacBook to store all your contents, therefore you have to use the preposition "In" instead because your software is "in it".

  • @OneGoodCompany Nope. The "boundaries" rule simply doesn't always apply. Would you say a letter is written "in paper"? I write notes onto paper; the paper has storage boundaries. I write software onto a computer; the computer has storage boundaries. Writing is on the paper, software is on the computer. On is completely grammatically correct for software.

  • @OneGoodCompany Also, here is the official definition of software from IEEE: The instructions executed by a computer, as opposed to the physical device on which they run. The AP style guide also uses "on" for software and applications. I'm sorry, but you're just not correct on this.

  • @OneGoodCompany Anyone who writes "coz" automatically looses all credibility when it comes to grammar.

  • iWork for personal use, Microsoft Office for business, Skype for talking to my friends, Paintbrush which is a great alternative to MS paint (for making FJ comics :D), iLife of course, Cod4 and MC Domination, and last but not least Mactracker.

  • Chrome, Decelerator, OnyX, Caffiene, Coconut Battery, VLC, Gimp, Minecraft, and Steam.

  • mirage won't work for me. :( the download link doesnt work, on any platforms. :(

  • Microsof Office

  • 

  • @Joethemonkey101 I'll see if I can find the one where I got it from and put the link up.

  • @MattsMacintosh Alright thanks Matt

  • and ilife

  • I think imovie is essential

  • Matt just a quick question. Have you noticed any memory leaks in lion? im asking because I have 6gb installed in my unibody white macbook and it uses about 5.3 gb of ram, when I barely have 3 apps running Safari,Itunes, and imovie.

  • @macypctutoriales Can't say that I have. I'll keep an eye out, though.

  • ...oops. Try again. Hey Matt. Can You please put a link to The Lion Wallpaper, or does it comes with Lion (The operativt system!!) ;-)

  • @TobiasIsraelsen It comes with Lion. You could probably find it online somewhere, though if you searched around.

  • Hey Matt. Will Yo

  • PEGGLE

  • Looking forward to seeing how the i7 works with Aperture and Final Cut Pro X :)

  • Vuze, VLC Player, Chrome, Caffeine, Appzapper, Cinch

  • I just like the dock, just the way apple designed it (my opinion)

  • the music at the end kinda reminds me of spongebob.

  • Well I always have whatever I am using a lot there. Like iMovie and iWeb, Number and Pages, Skype and Twitter and I am thinking about Aperture but don't know if Photoshop in the app store is better for photos or not then Aperture? But love this videos Matt keep them up

  • Must have apps:

Bittorrent client - For everyday "Piratebaying"

7zip - For extracting data from the downloaded torrent CD/DVD

PowerISO - For burning your torrents onto CD/DVD

  • @MattsMacintosh love the vid! Had an extensive look for mirage. Just cant seem to find it on the app store or through google! Possible to post a link?

  • I personally thing Aperture is just as advanced as Lightroom! NICE video as always though Matt!

  • no porn?

  • i installed open office org, dropbox and gimp

  • I really do love how you make your videos, like I said before! This one is so beautifully shot :)

  • chrome

  • Your videos make me happy ^_^

  • is it true that the future of MBP will have the current MBA design and internals, because I WANT A CD CD DRIVE you'll never know when you need it! I'm a music producer and we need cds to copy or clients music to doesnt apple think of us when making these machines?!?!

  • @romodrummerjz

they do, but then there argument would be everything is done through steaming and they want to contribute to a healthier environment by eliminating their uses from buying cds and dvds ect...

  • @skaterchevy thats dumb, so then how are we going to make the music mix cds to give to people to listen in their cars or make a home movie then burn it to watch on our tv with our family or backup our already bought and owned dvd movies to our computers so if something happens to the original copy we have a backup to burn again? i think getting rid or CDs and DVDs is a stupid idea and ppl stil have old media they need to switch to digital how would they do that if it all disappears
