I had the MBA till a few days back, and it was awesome, the only thing why i switched to the MBP were the Diskdrive and more connecting options ... ! The Macbook Air is Fast and good and i nerver had Problems with it running any "bigger" software ...
Hey Matt, I'm thinking of getting a Mac Laptop/Notebook.. Which would you recommend best for editing video and just an all around computer... the MacBook Pro or the Air?
the fist think i install are ilife iWork, final cut, spotify candybar and i spend quite a lot of time tweaking all the settings. Also I think you should do some motion tutorials etc i really want to learn how the program works!
I think I'll be patient and wait for the next release of the MacBook Air 13". Hopefully Apple will up the RAM to 8GB. Still everyday, I'm tempted to go out and buy the existing one. In the case of storing large files, I'll be using my 1TB external.
First apps I go for are Caffeine, Evernote and Spotify. Then follows the Office suite and Toast Titanium (although that last one isn't gonna be much use on the air I'm getting in acouple of days, hah!). Plex and Sublime Text X follows closely, and then it's pretty much random after that.
I highly recommend "app cleaner" especially for a macbook air. Last night in 2 hours worth of work I open about 90GB of HDD space by deleting .dmg files and old apps that have no use and just make it hard to be organized. App Cleaner does that job great
Hello Matt! I've got your own MacBook Air. It is normal that when I use Final Cut X, the fans start spinning? Sorry for my bad English. Congratulations for your videos ... I really like it!
Im trying to figure wether to get the best air or the highest 15 in with the upgrade high res screen? I want to download music and video and photos. I was just thinking the pro what you think?
I'm thinking about buying MBA as my main computer. The only "more professional" applications I use are Aperture and Photoshop for some photo organisation and editing. Disk space is not that of an issue as I can always use external hard drive if I want to move stuff around. Could you please share some thoughts on performance of those applications. Thanks
@thomasuk01 I think they run great. There is a little delay when handling large RAW files, but I would say it performs the same or better than my 2009 iMac.
@MrAgenteJ Thanks. Decided to go with MBP 13" i7, 8GB RAM and 256SSD instead. How much I do love the idea of MacBook Air, deciding factor was that Lion is RAM hungry and 4GB going forward (year or two) won't be sufficient. Really hope that next generation MBP will be more like Air.
Hey Matt, I'm having an issue with final cut pro X, I'm running it on Lion on a late 2008 MacBook, every time I export videos I get a popping effect through the entire video, why? =S
@MattsMacintosh Alas even in stereo the problem persists, It may well be the microphone I'm using, doing a test with my built in mic the problem does not occur, but this wouldn't explain why the sound in the project is crystal clear and the export not... I'm very confused...
Ahahaha. Sorry, just had to laugh to myself that somebody was actually commenting on your (correct) grammar as opposed to the content in the video. Get a hobby man. Anyways, awesome video as always Matt, your camera work is getting more and more stellar with every upload.
You might know Dave from Geekanoids who's also a Youtube reviewer about mostly Apple products. He lives in the UK and just uploaded a video that's in the same sort of topic or I should say Title as this video. It won't let me share the link here, but if you guys could look it up, you'll see what I'm talking about. Thank you.
And also, sir, please don't delete my other comments as well. When people read through them, it makes one sounds like a bad guy and other people starts bashing on them. Thank you.
@Cyclonexman It was a part of Final CUt Studio, which isn't for sale anymore through Apple. You can still find used copies and new ones from third party sellers, though.
@MattsMacintosh So would you recommend it to anyone? Because I use FCP 7 and I heard about FCP 10 getting blasted for all of these terrible features and bugs. I did see your video about it.
@MaddogTheRobot I haven't seen any "terrible features and bugs". A small minority of people that blasted it did so because they needed certain aspects of FCP 7 that aren't in 10. The majority of people that blasted it just jumped on the bandwagon. Unless you work with physical media or broadcast television, or are heavily invested in CS, FCP X is the best editing program out there
Grammar Police; "What's *in My MacBook". Nothing is actually *on your MacBook. Everything else is inside it. Sorry. Don't dislike this coz I made a correction. We all know you're good videographer but everybody makes errors especially when it comes to grammar.
@OneGoodCompany I'm going to have to completely disagree. "On" is the common phrasing for software. No one says "What twitter app is in your iPhone?" or "What version of Windows is in your PC?"
@OneGoodCompany It is not grammatically incorrect either. Software is abstract, it doesn't exist in any space. What's "in" the computer is silicon and capacitors. The software could be "in" the disk drive or "on" the screen. It is not in any way grammatically incorrect to say an app is "on" a computer (my minor is in English).
@MattsMacintosh Abstract or not, sir Matt, the rule still applies. The preposition "On" is used when there are no boundaries. When something or someone is actually "On" something. A surface or what have you. While the preposition "In" is always used when there are boundaries or walls. A good example would be "in a room". So, being that you're using a computer, which is a MacBook to store all your contents, therefore you have to use the preposition "In" instead because your software is "in it".
@OneGoodCompany Nope. The "boundaries" rule simply doesn't always apply. Would you say a letter is written "in paper"? I write notes onto paper; the paper has storage boundaries. I write software onto a computer; the computer has storage boundaries. Writing is on the paper, software is on the computer. On is completely grammatically correct for software.
@OneGoodCompany Also, here is the official definition of software from IEEE: The instructions executed by a computer, as opposed to the physical device on which they run. The AP style guide also uses "on" for software and applications. I'm sorry, but you're just not correct on this.

Matt just a quick question. Have you noticed any memory leaks in lion? im asking because I have 6gb installed in my unibody white macbook and it uses about 5.3 gb of ram, when I barely have 3 apps running Safari,Itunes, and imovie.

@MattsMacintosh love the vid! Had an extensive look for mirage. Just cant seem to find it on the app store or through google! Possible to post a link?
is it true that the future of MBP will have the current MBA design and internals, because I WANT A CD CD DRIVE you'll never know when you need it! I'm a music producer and we need cds to copy or clients music to doesnt apple think of us when making these machines?!?!
they do, but then there argument would be everything is done through steaming and they want to contribute to a healthier environment by eliminating their uses from buying cds and dvds ect...
@skaterchevy thats dumb, so then how are we going to make the music mix cds to give to people to listen in their cars or make a home movie then burn it to watch on our tv with our family or backup our already bought and owned dvd movies to our computers so if something happens to the original copy we have a backup to burn again? i think getting rid or CDs and DVDs is a stupid idea and ppl stil have old media they need to switch to digital how would they do that if it all disappears
I love mirrage! Check out my channel for the video.

@romodrummerjz
they do, but then there argument would be everything is done through steaming and they want to contribute to a healthier environment by eliminating their uses from buying cds and dvds ect...
