  • mogg fanatic much better than the 09

  • Where's ponder 'o_O . Even lightning bolt looks shit compare to this godlike card. PS yes it is 3 years old ..

  • For everyone saying that lightning bolt should be on the list, bolt was reprinted for the first time since 4th edition after this video was made.

  • Here's my agree/disagree status with you (not trying to offend): Tin Street Hooligan - Disagree Frostling - Not bad, but not among the top 10 I would say. Llanowar Elves - Strongly agree. Steel of the Godhead - Disagree. Tribe Elder - Agree with parallel cards in other editions before Kami. Kodama's Reach - Same as above. Mana Leak - The best Magic Card ever made. Snakeform - Disagree 2 - Disagree Oblivion Ring - Agree
  • @HufflepuffTheGreat why you disagree with snakeform?

  • Great list man, but really? no lightning bolt?

It's 3 damage to creature or player for 1 red mana! that's not only one of the best common cards ever printed, that's one of the best cards ever printed!

  • @patapirate Lightning bolt is reprinted in newer sets, but actually older than kamigawa. In fact, it's from alpha.

This video only features original cards.

BTW, this video made me happy, as i have most of these. Thanks.

  • @patapirate Oh wait, he had llanowar elves.. ignore what i said. Lightning bolt of course deserves a place on this list.

  • @paddymoep I noticed that too, that's why I said it. He even features mana leak, which has been around since stronghold (maybe a little older, not sure).

I'll always think lightning bolt deserves at least a top 5 spot, still pretty good list though

  • @patapirate Yep.. i noticed it's imperative for my goblin deck, as i always keep running against some 5/5 and they always take down one goblin each attack phase

It's also good to use with Reverberate, which i run 4 times with my goblins

  • @gothikgamer well what i said was true but lol i just used it to beat my g/f so iam a hypocrite i guess

  • clearly your a new player so you may wanna check up bop (birds of paradise), wrath of god, counterspell, brainstorm (worlds best common), force of will, pact of negotitation, metamophosis, recall, arcbelcher (vinatge decks and legacy) and the mox's

  • @HappyFeetWomboCombo He mentioned at the beginning of the video that these are his top ten commons from Kamigawa and after. Each card you mentioned fails to meet at least one of the two criteria he set down.

  • i prefer turn to frog instead of snakeform

  • Frostling is almost same as Goblin Arsonist.

  • is this a joke?

  • Dude, u`re so noob.

  • @kusterLR you're so noob* (that was a nice try)

  • frostling is a very bad card xD

  • okay kamigawa shouldnt even be on here because it was one of the most garbage sets printed. okay i can see o-ring as one of the best because it even blows up emrakul as long as he didnt get hard casted.

  • @XxDCx11 emrakul has pro from colored spells noob

  • @Skeetonmypete o ring is a permanent u dumb shits

  • @XxDCx11 god you're a noob... a permanent is still cast as a spell, and o ring can't target something with pro white as it's casted

  • @Skeetonmypete o ring enters the battle feild then targets the permanent if u played in tournoments u would know that, u biter of cock now go kill yourself for being a dumb shit in magic

  • Comment removed

  • This video is obviously a little old because there are newer commons that can do crazier things, oblivion ring is pretty good, but if I toss a naturalize down or anything of the sort, it's gone and I get my card back, I understand it's importance, as I have a friend who runs an exile deck, with venser, karn, and tons of crazy exile stuff and he has oblivion ring, but personally I can think of better top cards, commons that could do more for you than that

  • my picks for the two greatest commons of all time are sinkhole and maze of ith! i so wish that i still owned them!!!

  • mana leak sucks balls and what if they have the 3 mana to spend ? lmao u can get one that u pay 1 mana to play and they cant block it

  • @goodvocalcover look at current pro tours and similar...

  • @goodvocalcover Okay, Mana Leak is FANTASTIC, because A) In constructed, things move so quickly that Mana Leak is basically a splashable Counterspell. B) Even in casual and such, people tend to play their spells as quickly as they can, and therefore tap out to play their spells. Sure, it kinda sucks in lategame, but if you're running it and someone tries to drop something like an Obliterator, you have the ability to say no for a mere 1U.

  • @goodvocalcover you are clearly a noob xD

  • lightning bolt!?!!?!?!??!?

  • I have a question. He says you can block with frostling dealing 1 damage to whatever it blocks, then sacrifice it to deal another damage. I don't see how that can be true, but I am a new player so if I'm wrong please tell me. I'm pretty sure though that you can't use his ability like an instant, right? You can only use those on your turn.

  • @TheRobot452 Prior to m10 you could stack combat damage, so the creature would deal its combat damage and before it would die you could sacrifice it to its ability to deal one damage. Also activated abilities can be activated any time you can use an instant.

  • @judobuddha Ok, so nowadays you couldn't do that with frostling. However, you could still use the Sakura-Tribe Elder's ability to chump block, then sacrifice him to get more lands? Hopefully I've got this right now, and thanks a ton for helping out judobuddha. One last question, could you chumb block with a creature to absorb the damage then sacrifice him to a card like say, Fallen Angel, for it's effect? And once again, thanks a ton.

  • @TheRobot452 Yes you can do both of those in current magic. Once a creature is "blocked" it stays blocked even if the blocker is no longer in play for damage resolution.

  • @erichitz79 you have never seen counterspell

  • Next time, please don't wait a 1 minute to start the video.

  • mana leak is amazing

  • where the hell is lightning bolt!?!!?!?!??!?

  • !You sound kind of like Harrison Ford!

  • why did u say u can win the game with steel of the god head even tho u can win a game with any card for instance i won the game one time by playing safe passage then topdecking pacifism on his one blocker and razorfield rhino which was 16 16 at the time and killed him

  • you cant use oblivion ring to remove a planeswalker like u said it could because a planeswalker is a "player" not a creature not a enchantment its a player its like saying you're going to use it to remove target player from the game? but other than that its a alright card and guys if u want a good deck or c some really good decks go to "mtg deck builds" in google then klik "mtgvault.com"

  • @brandonwright0114 a planeswalker is a player but it also counts as a permanent, because they are counted as being on the field.

  • @brandonwright0114 LOL A planeswalker is not a "player" it is a non-creature permanant. Oblivion ring, Vindicate, Maelstrom Pulse, etc.. etc.. can ALL remove or destroy a planeswalker.

  • Make a new list featuring the newer cards :D

  • I can't believe how many IDIOTS have posted on this video!

Dark Ritual, Lightning Bolt, Brain Storm... Blah Blah Blah... How many of ALL these cards mentioned were printed AFTER KAMA???!!!

Oh NONE? Try Listening to what he is says before you post like a NOOB!

Blight Mamba, Priest of Norn, Elixir of Immortality??? This is video is 3 years old!!!! MORONS.....

NOW... Yes his list is flawed, but LISTEN before running your mouth!

    ( DRAFT - KAMA BLOCK to LOR/SHADOW BLOCK )

  • @Korsheth hey, dipshit. whats up? let people have their opinion. it doesn't matter what the video's restrictions are, everyone knows there were great commons before kawa, so some people will submit different opinion.your caps rage is not needed. armadillo cloak ftw.

  • @gearheaddrak I'm the dipshit?! Obvious you have not read all the comments I'm talking about. Cause comments are continually spammed with (Thoughtless BS) Everyone IS entitled to their opinion, and even more so I respect it! The problem are the morons that don't bother reading what he is talking about, AND THEN telling him he is a noob, he is the worst magic player ever, BECAUSE he didn't include Lightning bolt!

  • @Korsheth you can't read what someone someone says... he told people they could name a card before kawa in the comment section. so they did. if you're calling people noobs, i don't see why anyone else can address people as noobs for any reason. this dude was open to criticism.

  • Slippery Bogle!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with the oblivion ring, though not really as the #1 out of all commons. Though I would stick four of them in a pauper deck in a heartbeat.

  • moron you can't block crature with 1/1 shit and then sacrifice it, there is much better counter cards than this shit, Oblivion Ring sux - wtf is this list at all - most useless cards?

  • @TheJuvelir Actually dumbass, you can, look up your rules before you criticize someone.

  • @sasuke12131415 great now i have to go look at the comments 3 months ago

  • @TheJuvelir I'm sorry that you're mother took drugs while she was pregnant.

  • mogg fanatic?

  • Dude you have to be the Worst Magic Player Ever

  • @TheGreatSouthernHate hey man chillout the mtg rules change every couple of months man i quit magic for like 2 years i got back on and didnt even know that binding was gotten rid of now i play in tournaments and stuff vamps ftw!

  • Umm.... No lightning bolt?

  • Kodama's reach is Cultivate.

  • ...

  • You have no idea of Magic .... your list of Top Commons is bullshit for limited ... and its bullshit for contructed!

  • frostling suuucks for red death cultist foreva

    Death cultist:cost 1 B 1/1 sac deal 1 gain 1

    Counterspell>manaleak

  • frostling suuucks for red death cultist foreva

    Death cultist:cost 1 B 1/1 sac deal 1 gain 1

  • Let me see... Brainstorm, Lightning Bolt, heck, even Doom Blade are all 10 to 15 times better that Frostling.

  • Who else thought that frostling looked like frosting the first time you saw it?

  • Brainstorm is pretty good too.

  • nooblet

  • instea of kodamas reach you could just use cultivate

  • Ssteel of the Godhead the best of the cycle? Haven't you seen Edge of the Divinity? Notice how it's two mana cheaper?

  • Most of these cards arent actually that great, sakura tribe elder and mana ARE amazing cards granted, but I would change pretty much all the others for lightning bolt and stuff. =D

  • paralax wave + 4 paralax inhibitors = superior to oblivion ring

Also everything after onslaught block is for casuals

  • Fists of the Demigod, anyone? No? Maybe you like Bog Hoodlums?

The Fists are beast, the combination of striking first and reduce the power by the creature before he hits back is unbelievable for merely 2 mana, also; +2/+2 ain't no shit.

  • He sounds JUST LIKE John Candy.

  • kamagawa? hahahahaha

  • this guy is stupid he doesnt look at the fall backs he only looks at the good things not the bad

my number 1 would be solemn offering just because i have replay wich lets me choose 1 card from the graveyard each turn

  • @bashfrog I agree, Clout is possibly the best aura there is, albeit you have to play it on a U/R creature, most of which are useless without it. Comboed with Riverfall Mimic and a deck full of UR spells, you've secured your win on turn 3.

However, once the first Clout resolves, you can't play a second one on the same creature because the shroud prevents it from being targeted by any further auras, as auras are spells until they resolve and enchanting requires targeting.

  • why is frostling better than mogg fanatic

  • Llanowar Elves should be 1.

  • This is a really shitty list. Clearly a novice.

  • top ten commons ever, well works for me 1.- gush 2.- dark ritual 3.- daze 4.- counterspell 5.- lightning bolt 6.- hymm to tourach 7.- brainstorm 8.- diabolic edict 9.- sinkhole 10.- rancor
  • @Quenoreaves Our lists are almost identical, except I'd move brainstorm into number 2 and everything else down accordingly. I'd also drop the counterspell for Disciple of the Vault, but that's probably because I got raped by it so many times.

  • FROSTLING???... was even bad with damage on stack rule!

  • Frostling is the same to Fume Spitter... no... Fume Spitter is better :)

  • kodama's reach is shit you moron!

  • counterspell?

  • ...not good video...i seems you are an beginner;)

  • @Quiksilverboy544 ...i seems you suck at typing and are a fagbag troll know-it-all

  • @Quiksilverboy544 top 10 off the top of my head.... 1 lotus petal 2 dark ritual 3 daze 4 rancor 5 fireblast 6 counterspell 7 mystical teachings 8 empty the warrens/grapeshot 9 frantic search 10 ninja of deep hours
  • @Quiksilverboy544

Are you kidding me? I wasn't even playing then and I can tell most of those cards have and will continue to see successful CONSTRUCTED play. (If you don't know that is, it means you bring your own deck to the table, he was talking about limited format where you build a deck on the spot, and especially in that format those cards are valuable) Hell even Frostling was good back when damage hit the stack. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

  • 1.5 Giant growth

    0.5 Dark ritual

    0.25 lightning bolt

    ? stone rain?

    ? Blight mamba?

    ? Priests of Norn?

  • @tigerrogge1 lol @ the scars block commons... i take it you're new here?

  • @posterchild12345 What do you mean new here?

  • Neither Frostling and Mogg Fanatic are good after the change in rules

  • excuse me but where the **** Gaze of justice? it costs 1 and removes a card from play PERMANENTLY

  • Broken in Vintage.

  • Rancor?

  • the list is ok.. but were the heck is lightning bolt???

  • There is a better than Snakeform card which does the same but with a 0/1 sheep instead of that snake... i think you just made top ten commos you have.

  • why frostling? is not better mogg fanatic? O.o

  • A shame that the frostling and tribe elder no longer work that way, the same reasonj that mogg fanatic no longer does, you get cards just to keep other people from having it? Wow i uh...didnt consider you to be that big a dick, congrats on procing me wrong

  • @Kalicer he said at the start of the video this would be from a draft format so he was saying he would take it just so it cant be used against him.

  • my best card is elixir of immortality.

Its an uncommon. What it does is for ONE of any color of mana, gives you 5 life, AND lets you mix your graveyard (including this card) with your deck.

    Pretty good, eh?

  • At the very least I would say some of my choices may fit better as sideboards. But from playing experience...using tons and tons of commons, these have won me a lot of games. Even holy day. Hell, I threw a couple in my rebel deck and won JUST because of that card. I did have better cards in it like reverent mantra, but like I said, we're just discussing commons. Which reminds me, congregate is an awesome common, too. ;D ...but I used to play a lot of Emperor games. so...yeah.

  • And yes, I was wrong about Spirit Link. I had a shit load of Spirit links and the editions I had didn't have any logo to the side. I just assumed it was common.

  • @ilikepigtails It happens. And for what it's worth, I apologize for my tone; you were condescending to jedi so I responded in kind, but really, that doesn't take the discussion anywhere. It just pisses everyone off.

  • @GaeasBlessing

My tone with him wasn't appropriate. I honestly thought he was a troll because I didn't agree with any of his selections. Some seemed almost horrible to me. And no, I'm not a troll. I'm won plenty of Friday Night Magic tournaments and I think two kinda big ones in Houston. I haven't played in a while, though. And most "serious" decks I've made and played against have a lot of rares. So a card like "fog" may not be necessary. Doesn't mean it's a bad card.

  • And it doesn't matter, Rancor is better than Nature's Claim. It's one of the most powerful enchant creature cards amongst all the colors. +2, +0, Trample, and it comes back to your hand...for ONE? How many big creatures in Magic don't have trample? You're nuts.

  • IMO, to come up with the list of best commons EVER (not just Kamigawa onwards) you should ask 1) What formats have the best cards? 2) What commons see play in these formats? & 3) What percentage of the time will they win a game? My list: 10. Preordain 9. Gorilla Shaman 8. Wild Nacatl 7. Daze 6. Lightning Bolt 5. Nature's Claim 4. Duress 3. Ponder 2. Dark Ritual 1. Brainstorm Creatures just aren't that good. Lots of new players are going to overrate Lightning Bolt. 7 through 10 are debatable.
  • @GaeasBlessing

I always used either Naturalize or Tranquility over Nature's Claim. Why give them +4 life? The one cost difference with Naturalize doesn't even matter most of the time because green has no problem with mana (at least no deck I ever ran - even mixed). It's the green "disenchant," and disenchant is very powerful. And in most cases, Tranquility is better than both because it paves the way for all your creatures. There's good green enchantments, but it's usually not a staple.

  • @ilikepigtails The 4 life is largely irrelevant in a permanent war such as the type you'll find yourself in vs. a Stax deck. The difference between 1cc and 2cc however IS huge when they have an active Smokestack on board. Tranquility isn't better than both. It's obsolete now that Back to Nature has been printed, but if you meant by the standards of commons only, it's still worse than Tranquil Domain which isn't as good as Naturalize which isn't as good as Nature's Claim.

  • @GaeasBlessing

And you're giving specific examples for when the cheaper mana makes Nature's Claim better but there's just as many situations where Naturalize or Tranquility can be better. Personally, I like Naturalize more than Tranquility but I know of a lot of players (good players who use green) who like it. Against heavy control decks or combo decks (like decks with arcane lab and propaganda) for example, it's more powerful. And 4 life is sometimes very relevant...depends.

  • @Hamlord Tribal Flames doesn't deal damage equal to the number of basic lands you control, but the number of TYPES of basic lands you control. So if your running mono red then Tribal Flames will deal 1 damage only (cause you only have mountains).

Also Hand of Emrakul? Really?... It's big, but for 9 mana that's far from spectacular.

I would easily take Lightning Bolt or Fog any day. Also they re-released Mog Fanatic in 10th edition so why would Frostling be on this list?

  • kodama's reach = culivate...

  • hand of emrakul is beast, its a common, 7/7 monster colorless( not artifact, actual colorless) and takes 9 to play, also has anialator 1, so when it attacks , the deffending player sacrafices 1 permanant.

or tribal flames as a sorccery, it deals x damnage to creature or player where x is the number of basic lands you control it takes it takes red + 1 mana to use

although those are both fairly recent so i can understand, why he chose what he chose

  • @Hamlord117 Hand of Emrakul is absolutely terrible. You're stuck in the little kid "fatties rule!" phase.

  • Lol, I'd rather have fog or holy day than anything mentioned in this video. n00b.

  • @ilikepigtails Well that's because you aren't very good at magic and don't understand that those cards will do nothing by themselves except delay the inevitable for a turn. And they're only good against aggro in the first place. Against bad players playing bad decks, you can force them to overextend and set them up for mass removal but that's about it.

  • @GaeasBlessing

Delaying the inevitable for a turn is often a big deal. I define the power of a common by it's value in helping your deck maintain its overall goal. The commons I selected can go in any deck, regardless of theme, without compromising said theme. Only good against aggro? You obviously don't even understand their value.

  • @ilikepigtails "The commons I selected can go in any deck, regardless of theme, without compromising said theme." No, they simply cannot. They are incredibly inflexible. I'm going to end the discussion here because you clearly don't play competitive Magic. No offense intended. I'm not even trying to diss you. If you really want to prove me wrong, create an account on TheManaDrain or MTGTheSource sometime and post a copy of your Fog/Holy Day deck for review.

  • @GaeasBlessing

It's not a coincidence that a lot of the cards I mentioned are used in starter sets. Yes, Holy day can literally go into any white deck without negatively affecting the theme. Yes, it may slow it down, but it's not the kind of card that will just sit in your hand all game when it's not needed. It can be applied in lots of situations. Wild Nacatl however, come on dude...that is only good in a bi or tri color deck with those colors. That's my point. It's great, but limited.

  • Uhhh this list is shit. My list would be more like (I'll even split it evenly by color):

Llanowar Elves, Rancor, Counterspell, Brainstorm, terror, dark ritual, lightning bolt, raging goblin, pacifism, and swords to plowshares (or spirit link). Those are just practical, powerful commons you can throw in any colored deck and own.

Not saying my list is perfect cause there's a shit load of good cards, but I've won countless games with these cards.

  • @ilikepigtails But at least his list is actually all commons whereas you're too stupid to realize Swords and Spirit Link are uncommon and always have been. Not only that, Spirit Link and Raging Goblin? Wtf?

  • @GaeasBlessing

Swords to Plowshares was common in Anthologies. You question Raging Goblin because you don't understand the value of doing 1 damage on the first turn, almost guaranteed, in a red deck. Not to mention the combos a card like that possess being a goblin. A 1/1 for one with an ability, while being common is good. And like Raging Goblin, Spirit Link is not only cheap but can be used for both nullifying and picking yourself out of a hole.

  • @ilikepigtails Okay, I get it you're a troll. Good job. You had me going for a while there. Again, if you're being serious, I challenge you to post one of your decks with these cards (Spirit Link, Fog) on any serious Magic site and debate the people who tell you you're wrong and why. Maybe I'll see you there. Ciao!

  • @GaeasBlessing

We don't have to agree. I really don't feel like I have anything to prove by logging into websites, making decks, or discussing decks. I've played competitively, I had a really good DCI rating when I did play, and I've played off and on for a long time. Some of the cards you posted I posted, so we don't completely disagree. I mainly disagree with the person who made the video. However, I meant neither him nor you any disrespect. I was probably in a bad mood when I posted here.

  • lightning bolt was before kamigawa guys and after he made this video. stop with the lightning bolt comments because it's obvious that it doesn't fit with his criteria.

  • this is extremely terrible path to exile is 100000000000000000000000000000000 times better than that one card and o-ring

  • @moreboostersplz46 path to exile = uncommon

  • the only good card is o ring and mana leak and cultivate, and there are way better cards than the others

  • is this a joke?

  • Dark ritual, giant growth, lightning bolt, rancor, counterspell... there's a lot of very old 1 / 2 mana spells that are far superiot to any cards for the same mana thats been released since. I always foundf the charm spells great value too if you have a deck that they suit (eg chaos charm, seedling charm)

  • Frostling? No. Mogg Fanatic is better.

  • @MichaelHall1989 Fanatic is sub-par with the rules update that removed stackable combat damage. Frostling has always been crap :P

  • OMG 69 LIKES!

  • rancor, counterspell, and lightning bolt have to be on the list, Arcane denial , while good give card advantage to your opponent

  • rancor, counterspell, and lightning bolt have to be on the list

  • THE BEST COMMONS OF ALL TIME: DARK RITUAL, LIGHTNING BOLT, LLANOWAR ELVES, JOURNEY TO NOWHERE, ARCANE DENIAL, and LOTUS PETAL. These are cards you can't leave behind if your playing with their respective colors... :)

  • @briansan100 Journey to Nowhere did not exist at the time he made the vid, but things like bolt and lotus petal should definitely be on there (seriously, Snake Form?)

  • Comment removed

  • Brainstorm would like to have a word with you.

oh wait as far back as Kamigawa...

Really it all depends on how you use the cards. I can run a deck that has no rares and in the end it may very well do better than a full rare deck... oh wait already did.

Glavanizer, Galvanizer, 2 mana giving myr or the myr that gives 2 mana and Fireball... GG.

  • This vid came out before worldwake, so u might want to add common anihilators from that and maybe Walking Atlas...? idk, those spells r pretty good.

  • (in no particular order) Lightning Bolt. Dark Ritual Brainstorm Fireblast Oblivion Ring Putrid Leech Counterspell (common after Ice Age) Kird Ape (common in arabian nights & Revised) Mulldrifter Sink hole
  • That list is garbage.. lolz

  • seriously lightning bolt .

  • A little note on oblivion ring is you can put some barren glorys and apocolypse in your deck

play barren glory, then oblivion ring it, then play apocolypse.

It is an embarrasing way to kill someone.

  • Dark Ritual. Lightning Bolt. Rancor Counterspell Sinkhole Hymm to tourach Chain lightning Brainstorm Oblivion Ring And i'm going to throw in Ophidian in the last slot for his impact when he was released.
  • @hammerhiem75 Hymn to Tourach was uncommon and counterspell was common in ice age and after,.... just sayin'

  • fuck noob ass shit. what happen to counterspell, lightning bolt?

  • o ring is for noobs

  • Llanowar elves= Green eldrazi stomp deck's best friend

  • @Soccercick010

By Green Eldrazi stomp, I assume you're talking about standard Eldrazi ramp with cards like Overgrown Battlement and Primeval Titan?

There's no way they'd include Llanowar Elves. At 1 power they're not likely to trade with anything decent, meaning that it's a chump blocking mana producer - which Birds does 100 times better, thanks to flight. And even then, Joraga Treespeaker is probably better, as you're not really looking for 3 mana on turn 2 with the deck.

  • @jaxsonbateman What i should have said was have a budget deck, Birds of paradise and llanowars elves essentially do the same thing minus the flying.

  • Dude, you should check out Tangle Asp from Fifth Dawn. That card is cheap as hell. It's two mana 1/2 with instant kill ability when it deals combat damage.

  • Progidial Sorceror! Lightning bolt! Denomic tutor! Counterspell (the original)! Clone! Vesvuian Dopplegangers! Flight! Wtf!

  • @mpjama2 Demonic Tutor, original Counterspell and clone where uncommons and doppleganger was rare.

    Just sayin'.

  • Rancor??

  • yep it was very good

  • i kinda agree, good cards :P

  • I would choose lightning bolt

  • @damnuok back to kamigawa only o.o there was no lightning bold printed anymore 'till the date this was posted

  • @damnuok umm he said back to Kamigawa, and m10 wasn't out when he made this video. Duhrr

  • lightening bolt?!?

  • @craftynugget Look at upload date, ponder when the first time recently it was reprinted, and then realize your error =P
