Does anyone remember the name of a cartoon that was on video with one of these, all I remember is some big dog or something turning up at some cat or whatevers house and starts demanding food then at the end gets a bucket of water stuck over his head and he swims out the door?.
It has been doing my head in because that's all I remember about it, lol.
Thank you to anyone that understands what I'm going on about. :)
Man I think it's funny how (not all, but most) people that post comments about finding this video are all like 20+ lol. I took remember watching this over and over, thanks for the post.
I've been thinking of this cartoon a lot lately .. I used to watch this cartoon every year around the holidays when I was a child (Im 25 now) .. now I can share it with my child. Thank you for posting!
It has been forever since I've seen this cartoon. I can't for the life of me remember what VHS I had it on but every year around the major holidays I would think about and I'd have such an erge to watch it. It was just as cute on as it was a little over 15 years ago.
Does anybody remember this one cartoon with lots of different music.jazz and such..Everyone had their own book .. One character in particular was black and wide but when he turned he was thin as paper... and little boy who cried wolf with his little horn....plz im going crazy.
The paper-thin guy was the famous society detective The Thin Man (of course); he was in two or three cartoons, same gag. I do remember the the boy crying wolf; that one was a look at fairy tales, may have been a different from the other.
i am 27 and have thought about this cartoon alot over the years. my sister and i would watch this over and over as kids!!!! am so excited to find it!! does anyone remember the one with the spiders living in like a spider apartment? i must find it!!!!
I love this little cartoon... I saw this when I was a little girl... My mama would put this on and i'd fall asleep... and I would be somewhere in dreamland.... thankyou for posting this ♥♥♥
I've been looking for this for years and years but I couldn't remember the name of it till someone just answered me on a forum with a link to this video. Thanks so much for uploading it, I'm delighted to have seen it again. I love it. :)
I've got a VHS tape copyrighted in 1992 called "Six Hours of Color Cartoons" with this on it. It's amazing how time flies.....I used to like this one, the tape is really worn out now.
The Merry-go-round effect is pretty cool! It's like 3D, it's so cool, and I love the drawings, they look so realistic( I mean the backgrounds) and the drawings in general are so unique. I love these kind of cartoons better than what we see today...they were so much better before..
i dont know how ; but im swear that i watched this cartoon when i was little girl! i dont know how that cartoon came to my T.V in Israel...Strange but nostalgic
Now that I think of it, im pretty sure Family Guy actually referenced this XD in the episode where peter and lois were trying to do a talent show while on MJ
I'm 19, I had this on VHS a very very long time ago and it went missing. I never knew the name nobody ever knew what I was talking about until I searched for a very vague " poor children dream of candy and toys" on google and SOMEHOW that actually turned up somewhere in dreamland. My nostalgia is fulfilled and now I finally can watch something that has been sitting in my memory from forever ago.
@jcreamx23 It is odd. But I also remember watching a lot of George Pal stuff, like Gumby and The Puppetoons. Other than that I kept to the modern stuff.
I remember when I was little girl watching this...I believe it was on a VHS along with a Raggedy Ann movie...I freakin loved this cartoon. I remember vividly fast forwarding to the end of the tape to watch it. haha. thanks for sharing!
wow, i had this on vhs when is was a kid. I played this over and over, it never got old to me. favorite line: "I like vanilla ..... I like chocolate". this is classic
I have been searching for this for YEARS! This is my absolute favorite, favorite cartoon!!!! I love this, and used to watch it in the 50's - in black and white. Thank you for sharing!
I still have the original VHS that I watched this on as a child!!!! THANKS FOR UPLOADING IT HERE!!! MY GOD! Brings back such memories to me and my mother. Such a sad but heartfelt cartoon. I used to cry with this and still get teary-eyed about it but would get so happy with the end.
I saw this cartoon on television once, years and years ago. I have been wanting to watch it again ever since then, but I forgot the title! Then, I was fortunate enough to acquire an old, VHS video with a shorter version of this cartoon on it. From that, I got the title once again, and so I was able to find this longer version here on YouTube! Thank you ever so much for sharing it with us, Scottdavid! :-)
Yes. I've hade years like this. this yeaar is kinked of the same. But I am loved and I have a job (menny don't) So God Bless us one and all!!!!! makes me whant to cry
I am 26 and I remember this. I watch the tape that it came with every year around christmas time. I am having my daughter watch it now to teach her not to be such a spoiled brat.

Damn... I'm one 21 years old and I remember watching this and 'Christmas Comes But Once a Year' when i was a kid. They were some of my favorites. I'm trying to remember what other ones I had along with it, but it's been so long...
@pip3ck0 I love love love Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer, however that is not one of the ones I had in mind. I think the others are from the same time period/artist possibly of this video and 'Chistmas Comes But Once a Year'. I feel like I had them all on one tape at some point... not sure. Rudolf is still awesome though haha
i wanna know how im 25 years old yet i remember watching this when i was little?? is there any oher 20 somethings out there who vividly remember watching this as a child but have no idea how they came to be watching a cartoon from the 1930's? not that im complaining, its an awesome fuckin cartoon when youre 5, just weird.
@jcreamx23 I know the feeling all too well!! We have to thank the inventor of the VCR. My mom used to tape cartoons during the day for me to watch on the weekend because back in the late 80s-early 90s, you didnt have all cartoon channels. Then there were tapes you could get really cheap that were Little Audrey, Little Lulu or random old cartoons.
I miss the good old days & I'm only 24!!! Thank God for DVDs & Youtube!!
@jcreamx23 I am 19 and I vividly remember this cartoon. It has been in the back of my mind for years and I couldn't remember what the name of it was so I couldn't find it!
@cstacer19 i know i remember every detail from this movie too, i just cant figure out why a bunch of people around my age have all seen this 70 year old cartoon? i dont know about you but i dont remember watching a lot of cartoons from the 30's, i watched all the modern stuff. yet myself and a bunch of others from my generation have all seen this? dont ask me why but that just strikes me as odd...in a cool sort of way, of course.
@jcreamx23 i totally remember watching this and Christmas Comes But Once a Year. i think we had a tape with both on there when i was really little and it took me forever to find them!
@xqueenjessiex i think i watched christmas comes but once a year too. the theme song sounded familiar when i listened 2 it. when i was on that page i seen rudolph the rednose reindeer from the 40's too and i definitely remember watchin/lovin that 1. maybe ive watched more early 20thcentury cartoons than i thought? before talkin 2 people on this page i was beginning to think i was having flashbacks of cartoon watching from a previous life. then again that could be why we all like these so much :p
@jcreamx23 , I am 25 and I remember this cartoon too!. I watched nickelodeon and cartoon network, so maybe it came on one of those. I had no idea it was so old either.
@jcreamx23 Yep, I'm 20 and way back when I was a little kid I bought a VHS with 6 hours of cartoons on it and this was one of them. I thought it was such a good deal but most of them were lousy. I liked this one though.
I had a Christmas Classics VHS which now that I think about it was probably a Fleischer Studios VHS since the only animations on there were from them.
@jcreamx23 me, me! I had it on a VHS... I also remember watching a bunch of old Casper... especially one where he had a little fox named Foxy, and another cartoon about people made of balloons and some bad guys were popping them... Do you know of that one? And of course, Raggedy Ann, an episode called "The Enchanted Square"...
for some reason this cartoon, song of the birds (the original), and Christmas comes but once a year make me cry now, i used to watch them as a little kid but now i cant with out crying.
Drawn by Fleischer's 2 best animators, Seymour Kneitel, and "Doc" Crandell, Crandall animated the best Boops, including "Snow White", which he drew by himself, it took 6 months.
this video is so great to me.... im only 23 but it would always fill my heart with joy and sadness at the same time...now i gotta come on youtube cuz my dad sold the video ....blaaaaahhhh
Oh my gosh! I watched this when I was little (even though it was about 20 years ago) and loved it so much!! I since lost the video and all these years have wished I could see it again! Thank you, thank you SO MUCH!!
Oh, this cartoon I watched when I was a kid. Made me sad all the time - always had some strange gross taste in my throat when I watched it. Such a nice thing to put one "Oliver Twist" in 8 minutes, and make children understand it and to see that children becoming better people when they grow up. HUGE LIKE on this one!
What a beautiful waltz tune! The cartoon is so sad, the poor children! The saddest part is we didn't learn from those times enough to get past the greed of today. There are still children who suffer like this in our world...more often than not. Too bad, there aren't still kind merchants who make childrens dreams come true.
Such a sweet cartoon reflecting on childhood innocence at a time of misery. If there was no Disney, I'd be watching Fleischer cartoons all day. They're second best to me.
@mandragoramia I always thought why can't the baker and all those people just give their mom a job, but apparently it's supposed to be set in the Great Depression and everyone's poor at the time, so..... :(
im soooo happy i found this, i was a child in the late 80's early 90's but somehow my folks had this on VHS. very awsome cant beleive someone has this!!! thanks
i totally agree! im only 17, lol but when i was little i used to wish i had those dreams soooo bad! my brother and i would watch this cartoon as we set up the christmas tree every year. but now as i watch it, the whole thing just seems so depressing! absolutely wonderful cartoon, but depressing :[
@klingcain I do still have my family. It's just so depressing since those kids are going to have such a wonderful day, but once it's over, what do they go back to? I used to be jealous of all of the stuff they were getting that day, but rewatching it now I've realized that they'll eat all the food, all the dessert, and have the toys. But the storekeepers, despite their generosity, can't support that family forever right? Or even past the week.Wonderful message, but lookin deeper, it's depressing
@sushi00time That's interesting. I am glad to hear it is about the content and not something more personal. This cartoon is one I watched with my kids many times when they were young, much the same circumstance as you describe. I have always looked at it as a sort of morality play about philanthropy. We will never solve all the problems of this world but we can, in a our own small way, try. I believe the only real and lasting effect we can have in this world is in the lives we touch. cheers, g
@klingcain Thank you, and that is incredibly true. Although our actions may seem physically infinitesimal when in the bigger picture, they always have a much greater effect in the psychological realm. The best thing we can do is try to BE the best within our capability, the little things add up after all. I completely agree.
no you're definitely not nuts. my father bought me the vhs' of all the old cartoons he used to watch and wanted to share them with me when i was 5. 20 years later i come across this and find myself crying like a baby.

@jcreamx23 Yep, I'm 20 and way back when I was a little kid I bought a VHS with 6 hours of cartoons on it and this was one of them. I thought it was such a good deal but most of them were lousy. I liked this one though.
Uberforth 7 months ago
@jcreamx23
I had a Christmas Classics VHS which now that I think about it was probably a Fleischer Studios VHS since the only animations on there were from them.

@jcreamx23 I am 30 and I remember this whole cartoon! It use to air on the Disney Channel when I was little! Thats how my sister and I saw it!

cheerbabe8790 5 months ago
@jcreamx23 me, me! I had it on a VHS... I also remember watching a bunch of old Casper... especially one where he had a little fox named Foxy, and another cartoon about people made of balloons and some bad guys were popping them... Do you know of that one? And of course, Raggedy Ann, an episode called "The Enchanted Square"...

Drawn by Fleischer's 2 best animators, Seymour Kneitel, and "Doc" Crandell, Crandall animated the best Boops, including "Snow White", which he drew by himself, it took 6 months.

This cartoon used to make me cry... It made me the humanitarian I am today.

Ahh, the famous cartoon that drove Glenn Beck insane. A socialist nightmare.
...NOT.
It's a beautiful little gem.
I love Fleischer. The studios work is timeless and will be great 2000 years from now.
Thanks for sharing.

sushi00time 1 year ago
@sushi00time Why do you find it depressing? Do you still have your family?
klingcain 1 year ago
@klingcain I do still have my family. It's just so depressing since those kids are going to have such a wonderful day, but once it's over, what do they go back to? I used to be jealous of all of the stuff they were getting that day, but rewatching it now I've realized that they'll eat all the food, all the dessert, and have the toys. But the storekeepers, despite their generosity, can't support that family forever right? Or even past the week.Wonderful message, but lookin deeper, it's depressing
sushi00time 1 year ago
@sushi00time That's interesting. I am glad to hear it is about the content and not something more personal. This cartoon is one I watched with my kids many times when they were young, much the same circumstance as you describe. I have always looked at it as a sort of morality play about philanthropy. We will never solve all the problems of this world but we can, in a our own small way, try. I believe the only real and lasting effect we can have in this world is in the lives we touch. cheers, g
klingcain 1 year ago
@klingcain Thank you, and that is incredibly true. Although our actions may seem physically infinitesimal when in the bigger picture, they always have a much greater effect in the psychological realm. The best thing we can do is try to BE the best within our capability, the little things add up after all. I completely agree.
Regards

During the last Depression people had a lot more empathy, didn't they?
My grandparents used to make sandwiches and soup for hobos that came through town.
It's amazing how people used to pull together in times of crisis.
