In the Book, Voldemort killt Grindelwald, here he has to stay in this horribal Prison. Well in the Book he protected Dumbeldore, so he deserved a quick death, here he betrayd Dumbeldore! He deserves to stay here
@MyAbcd12345678 ehhhhh He'd pretend to be a humble hairdresser then Slit Harrys throat. Then Bellatrix would turn his flesh to meat pies turning everyone in london to cannibals.
why if it says in the books when Lord Voldemort seeks out Grindelwald for information of the where abouts of the Elder wand that Grindelwald refused to tell Voldemort anything? When in the movies he strait up tells him where it is? stupid
@amelor07 Grindelwald was locked up in his own prison called Nurmengard. Also by the time Voldemort comes to him he (unlike in this scene in the movie) seems to feel remorse for his crimes and mockingly tells Voldemort that he won't tell him where the wand is and that he'll never find it. Grindelwald was Dumbledore's best friend and potential love interest (since at least Albus was gay) and this was his way to repent a little. Enraged Tom kills Grindelwald who is laughing at his death.
@Wurzelknecht Altho it's different from the books i still like this scene cause it seems like Grindelwald is making fun of Voldemort like he's retarded which I like. "Ah Tom, I knew you'd come one day."
Gellert Grindelwald never was interrogated by voldemort, but voldemort did interrogate gorgovicth. If you read the book you would know that in the part when harry and hermione were at bathildia bagshots house they saw a picture of gellert and harry reckoned him from when he was possessed by voldey.
@legodude78910 Voldemort does interrogate Grindelwald in the book.... It spans many pages though, because it keeps fading in and out; "He was gliding along around the high walls of the black fortress-- looking up, up at the topmost window, the highest tower-- and he rose into the night, flying straight up to the window at the very top of the tower-- The window was the merest slit in the black rock, not big enough for a man to enter...." I think YOU should read the book....
I really disliked the scene too. In the book, Voldemort unlike Grindewald is not able to redeem himself because he is unable to feel remorse. It is a very touching scene when Dumbledore is explain Grindewald's last act to Harry. I have forgiven the movie though because they made a choice to cut out a lot of the Dumbledore subplot and in doing so had to fill the gaps. Clearly they needed to find a way of Voldemort finding the elder wand in a way that made sense to the audience.
@lat3908 I agree with you! It's such a shame that the both parts do not focus much on Dumbledore's tragic past. Even part 2 doesn't actually show scenes of young Dumbledore, his siblings and Grindelwald. It's a real shame that each HP film is forced to make painful decisions, each time again, that (loyal) HP readers do not always agree with. I find Dumbledore's past very important: to show that even the the epitome of Light had been quite evil. But your explanation does seem logical, though...
@LeCreuset05 but what if there was ever a gas leak at voldemorts... cave? house? i dont know where he lives. we'll just call it a "dwelling". he'd never be able to smell it, since he's so evil that i guess his nose is gone. eh, it's probably for the best
I really hated this portion. I wish Gellert cast a spell to get his wand back and fought Voldemort! That way, there would be a proper fight between the two greatest dark wizards of all time!
P.S.
I also wish Snape wasn't caught off guard and fought Voldemort and Nagini.
I kinda hated this scene...in the book, Grindelwald refused to tell, as a last act of repentance to Dumbledore, who was his friend (possibly lover, as JK Rowling said Dumbledore was gay).
@Xelamorph67 He was evil but when he was alone rotting away in his cell its said he felt remorse for what he did. He had alot of respect for dumbledore and dumbledore says when him and harry meet in limbo he believed the last lie to be a sort of effort to stop voldemort from becoming even more powerful. Like a way to make up for what he did. Voldemort also kills Grindelwald in the book and Grindelwald just laughs at him, like dumbeldore he isnt afraid to die.
He is. I consider him a better wizard than Voldemort because he doesn't care about Voldemort's power or reputation. Standing as the most powerful dark wizard of all time, Grindelwald doesn't care about him, he only sees him as a fool whose chasing power and will one day die for it. He even laughs in his face and calls him Tom.
@pimasta314 i know, why change it? It was one of my favourite scenes because grindelwald laughs in voldemorts face. Really dissappointed i was looking forward to this scene alot.
Because they skipped most of Dumbledore's childhood in the movie. Voldemort realizes the connection between Grindelwald and Dumbledore when Harry drops their picture in Godric's Hollow. Seeing the young boy in Gregorivitch's memory, and seeing Grindelwald's young picture, he made the connection and visited Grindelwald in his cell.
@Karnezar I wasn't asking how Voldemort found out... i just meant why change it so he isn't defiant? He still could of read his memories and then killed him or something. But to leave him like that was just stupid.
@pimasta314 I agree, in the book it showed that even to the very end Grindelwald was likely the stronger Dark Wizard. Voldemort was breaking down even further, he had no chance, and Grindelwald was loyal to Dumbledore, perhaps even mocking Voldemort. Sure, he lost none of the arrogance in the film, but why did he tell Voldemort? I suppose to keep the film length down. Not every detail could fit in. IDK.
Um dumbledore himself Stated Grindelwald Was the most dangerous dark wizard Untill ' You know who' came along. Voldemort traveled into the Dark magic deeper then anyone. Grindelwalds no sloutch. But he's no Voldemort. And if you wanna throw age in Voldemorts 71. Not very young either,
@mwcarolina It's great isn't it? Although Grindelwald was probably clever enough to keep his "seemingly villainous good" looks in his young years while Voldemort made himself butt-ugly XD
In the Book, Voldemort killt Grindelwald, here he has to stay in this horribal Prison. Well in the Book he protected Dumbeldore, so he deserved a quick death, here he betrayd Dumbeldore! He deserves to stay here

Possibly because w in German is pronouncing as V. Such as the word "wald" ( = means forest in english ).

why didnt voldemort make grendelwald join him? he's the second most powerful dark wizard to ever live right?
veryold3 6 months ago
@veryold3 The fact that he's the second most powerful dark wizard to live is
precisely the reason he DIDN't ask Grindelwald to join him. Riddle knew
that an equally manipulative and sinister wizard like Grindelwald would stab
him in the back at the earliest opportunity.
