nice. yeah i've heard jeff Beck's version. it's ok, a little too clean for my taste. i really prefer the reverb on this one. nice touch. thx 4 posting.
Potts' appeal is from being an everyday guy doing something extraordinary ... without being a trained, dedicated performer. Among the other versions of Nessun Dorma, I tend to prefer Franco Corelli over Pavarotti.
bending raises the pitch and by only a small amount, but this song requires lowering the pitch, by several notes. sliding doesn't really give the same sound at all.
there are small pitch shifts all through nessun dorma that are important parts of the song, but there are a few points in particular that really give the song its character
for instance, at "No, no, sulla tua bocca lo diró"
there's a shift on "lo" that is normally performed in a very particular way, and when it's done right, it's just beautiful
it can't be done with a bend because it's a downward shift covering several notes, and it's too slow and small a range for a slide
was good for what it was man. it lacks the feeling that Nessun Dorma demands. usually it gets me all kinds of emotional but this didnt unfortunately. i dont know what can be done but keep at it.
Thanks for the comment. There are some inherent limitations in using the guitar to cover a vocal song ... have to settle for playing the melody, as it's hard to capture certain nuances at which the human voice excels.
for me it was that the background was all midi and the guitar, nothing personal, was just straight forward with very few liberties taken. i have a recording of a band, i believe they're called Man 'o' War doing Nessun Dorma and it's amazing
very nice! Good choice of the gain and the reverb, I prefer this sound than the Beck's one! My personal opinion, obviously!

tabs?
krlognrlda 11 months ago
@krlognrlda I recorded this a few years ago and don't have tabs for it. It's a pretty simple melody and would be easy to figure out by ear.

Can you give me the tabs??
please

nessun dorma requires a whammy
justinl81 3 years ago
not neccessarily. what's wrong with sliding/ and/or bending?????

fair enough. i suppose you have a point. but take nothing away from the video, still a good version.

Do you have your own example of how this should be performed?? I'm not sure where you think this bend is needed.

Again, do you have an example posted somewhere??
foundjoe 2 years ago
you can hear it in the vocal versions, but nobody seems to have posted a guitar version that uses a whammy, maybe I will later
justinl81 2 years ago
I'm not a big fan of whammy bars, so it would be more impactful to hear an example so as to determine whether it augments the character of the song.

@justinl81 Jeff Beck has done it!!!!!!!!!!

Nice, when I play it I do the same as you but higher pitched, 12th fret is my open, try it it's aces.

Good suggestion. Have a little problem with intonation higher on the neck (which I need to get fixed) but will check that out.

Thanks. Was hoping to do something relatively original with the song.
