  • @slimmetalpickn they're good. I've actually got the pair of green machine speakers I'm trying to sell if you're interested.

  • Any chance of a demo of the v3m when it comes out? I'm GASing hard for that thing.

  • @razormusik if someone sends me one, yeah. I imagine that tone king will be the one doing that one though until more owners and their webcams start trying to put them on here.

  • Is that an actual Tonebone pedalboard?

  • @hawg427 yep stil got it too! weighs a ton

  • Dont know if the last one sent properly. What about Mesa Dual Rec or the Engl Fireball?

  • @hawg427 they're ok... I think the 2 channel titan buries them both.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Titan? Randall, Mesa, and Titan amps are all have amps called called Titans. What are you referring to?

  • @flankerchris7 no there is a company called titan amplification. hand wired, high gain, totally customizable, etc.

  • @FastRedPonyCar ahh, thanks, I will investigate further.

  • Hey Drew, I had never seen this vid of you. I thought it was your little brother. LOL Then I looked at the date. It is you :-) You go thru amps like I go thru food. :-) How did you like the Carvin? Sounds pretty good to me.

  • @hawg427 it was ok I guess. lots of options and functions but not a whole lot of substance as far as the core tone goes.

  • @hawg427 it was ok I guess. lots of options and functions but not a whole lot of substance as far as the core tone goes.

  • It probably sounds like shit cause your trying to played "metal" through a fucking single coil pick up guitar

  • @pgcky1207 no the neck pickup was one of the carvin TB60 pickups. mini humbucker. Anyways, I've routed that pickup cavity out to hold a full size humbucker now and the amp doesn't sound that great because number one: it isn't that great and number 2: the cab sucks. I still have that legacy 4x12 and I can't even give that damn thing away.

  • @pgcky1207 Tell Yngwie Malmsteen you can't play metal on fucking single coil pickups. Yes, I know they're stacked, but they still sound like single coils.

  • @nemesiskorn dude you're totally right! it does sound like it

  • every amp i seem to want/look at you seem to have a pretty nice demo of lol

  • @Linqua2112 LOL.. skip this one!

  • my buddy has this and plays with it in a band. not fuzzy at all.. love this amp c:

  • love your clean tone what is your rig set up on that?

  • V3 have 2 parallel speaker outputs, Which selection should i choose (4 , 8 or 16 ohm) when I have only one 8 ohm stack cabinet?

  • I have a bunch of high end, high gain heads. Right now I'm using the V3 most of the time. It's huge sounding. Like most of these amps, they need to be turned up a bit to get the full effect. When you consider it costs 1/3 what some of my amps cost me, I think it's amazing.

  • You say V3 is too fizzy? thin and trebly?

  • @Zhorellski yes

  • @Zhorellski Yes, yes, YES!!! I hate that amp. I'm glad Drew finally saw the light and moved on.

  • @CudBucket haahh What's up dave!

  • @FastRedPonyCar Not much man. Love the Splawn clips. Bad for my GAS!

  • sweet clean section, what effects you runnin on that part?

  • @DeadPandaTits tc nova delay and chorus i think

  • @FastRedPonyCar sounds great man, im lookin into a v3, seems like the cleans hold up

  • @DeadPandaTits I'd get something else.. there are much better sounding amps out there for the money. the V3 is pretty fizzy and way too compressed/muddy at stage volume.

  • I'm undecided between two amps.. Both are being sold for the same price $900.. Marshall TSL 100 w/ a 1960 cab G12T75's or a Carvin V3 with a 4X12 Vintage 30's

  • @fixxxer602 Neither. Get a DSL and a good overdrive pedal. The DSL sounds better than both of the amps you mention and is dirt cheap. Much better tone than a TSL. If you can find a 2 channel JVM, even better.

  • @FastRedPonyCar not the first time I hear that DSL is better than TSL.. Why is that? I thought it was the same same only with one more channel and more EQ options...

  • @fixxxer602 No idea.. it just has a better voice. Different preamp section. the TSL offers more sounds on tap at any given time but you suffer quality of tone. The JVM was what the TSL should have been. The JVM is my favorite current production high gain marshall. Try and find a used 2 channel jvm head and an avatar speaker cab.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Thanks for your input.. I'm going amp shopping on tuesday and im' trying out that carvin V3 and Marshall TSL.. I need to find a DSL and JVM to try out aswell.. No matter what I get it will be an upgrade from the shitty marshall VS100 solid state with the MG cab..lol

  • @fixxxer602 Gaaahhh!!! the MG cab is horrendous!

  • which one is better for metalcore?

    Peavey 6505+ or Carvin V3?

    for gigging intensely with it..

  • 6505.. no question about that choice.

  • Hi man excellent sound.

How is this amp at a pretty low volume??

  • It needs an attenuator or at the least a volume pedal in the fx loop to lower the output. The channel volumes seem happiest around half way up and the master volume needs to be at around 9 or 10 o'clock before it loses some of the harsh upper end. I'ts kinda like a recto in that regard.

  • Btw, sick guitar playing- I don't give that complement out easy or often, but really nice on the clean and the heavy stuff

  • what tuning is that? nice chording

  • Could you please give me some general tips on how to start dialing this amp in? I would appreciate it.

  • start with the overdrive channel volumes at noon, set the master depth at 3 o'clock, master presence at 1 o'clock and mid cut at about noon. Use the mid gain mode for your high gain to avoid excessive high end harshness, set the EQX in the up position, gain knob no more than half way and boost it with a clean boost for more gain. lastly, keep that master volume at around 9 o'clock or higher and use a volume pedal in the fx loop or attenuator to control overall master output.

  • What do you mean by boost it with a clean boost? What pedals would you recommend trying with this?

  • sorry, did you use any effects? which? thank you! amazing sound!

  • in this video I was using a TC nova system. Now, I use hardwire reverb/delay pedals.

  • Cool demo. My first Carvin was a 94 Koa DC 135. Still have it. Still sounds great.

  • I just noticed this guy has the same slant board I use, I can't see his pedals well enough. This amp sounds great for any type of music, I play full step detuned heavy fusion from clean to intense tubes. I would not take two Marshalls for this amp. It's best if you match it with their vintage 4x12 cab.

  • @CarvinTone the celestion g12y75 are for the modern high gain tone reproduction. i heard a celestion speaker test at 2010 namm show at there both or room theg12t75 was voted 18 of 20 in the final comparison round the g12t75 was the panel best of 18 of 2o metal and indudtry dudes.vai was there he was brafin bout the v30 and then the guy from hate breed was riping him in fun way he said the g12t75 was not the tone he wanted to reproduce . the g12t75 is to brutal harsh . so i lovem

  • metal musiq, if you like the T75's, you'll love the G12K100. It's like a 75 with a tighter low end, a bit more in the midrange and a more controllable high end. they're great.

  • Does your mom know you are buying all this gear? I have played Carvin gear for many years. The V3 amp can be adjusted to do anything. I just retubed mine after 1 year and I would not take two of anything for it. I use the vintage 4x12 and I run the amp on the 50 watt adjust. I play heavy fusion from clean to intense and this amp delivers the goods. By the way I have the rails, and a Stellartone tone control, these pickups are 8.3 ohms they are full range and have higher output than some HBs.

  • I sold the V3 long ago. It's a decent amp but the tone is too compressed at high volume. I play a splawn nitro and have a 2 channel TITAN amp being built as well. the V3 was a decent amp to point me to a tone that I really was after that the V3 couldn't get. Seems several guys I know are like that. They bought V3's and then discovered the V3 could almost get it but not quite and they sold their V3 to get an amp that got that particular sound they were after.

  • I require my rig to produce all manner of tones from glass clean to heavy quality distortion that is articulate and musical. The V3 does anything I require by simply adjusting the vast EQ potential and saturation switching. I also run high end new El34s and new 12AX7 and Jan Phillips in my preamps. The clean channel is set to bright, 2 is on the lower position gain for a really heavy dark Trower Univibe, 3 is high gain intense which resembles a high gain pedal like the ML or MT 2.

  • I have played the Carvin V3 for over a year and jsut retubed it with quality EL-34s. This is a really underrated amp, You can adjust it to do anything. I prefer Carvin gear for many years and over 30 years of playing. By the way the Carvin rails are 8.3 ohm higher than some HBs, they sound great for any style of playing. I also use the Stellartone tone pot in mine. That is an amazing device for 80 tone options on a 5 way!

  • Legacy 2 or this?

  • You have some of the most wicked riffs, dude.

  • do you need pedals to still make thi amp brutal and for metal like whitchapel, suicide silence, etc.

  • no it's got plenty of saturation.

  • Cant stand a Recto? Have you owned one? Theres several great crunch/high gain sounds in a Recto beyond the typical Modern scooped tone everyones familiar with. I own one and wouldn't trade it for any head on the market.

  • For a couple of months a triple rec and it was too fizzy and harsh. gobs of gain but lots of gain is no good if it doesn't sound good to begin with. I tweaked for endless hours on the eq and I'm very famililar with how the mesa eq's work.

it just didn't do anything for me.

  • Ah ok, to each their own. I hear that "fizzy" comment a lot from Recto haters, but my Rectoverb never sounds fizzy to me. Maybe its a dual/triple rec thing...maybe its due to too much preamp gain, not enough power tube saturation due to the higher wattages? Anyway, great video.

  • The last i was in Guitar Center I was trying a recto and it seemed realy fizzy like a lot of people say they are, but the time before that it sounded awsome i guess it's all in the eq.

  • I've had Single Recto EL34, Mark IV A.

Recto - Crunch is ok, but... achieved with cranked clean channel :P

Vintage is very nice, but too slow, flubby. Raw-useless.

    Modern - too much fizz,harsh.

IMHO Mesa Cabs sucks too if you play metal. They sound clear but thats all. Too much cutting, annoying mids, harsh. _I_ prefer orange/marshall. Mesa is overrated.

  • Marshall is the best

  • highly modified marshall...

  • Way to go bro that's some deadly playing. I got a powerball and yeah it's wicked.

  • do you like the carvin twin blade or no?

  • yeah I love it... it's in my strat now.

  • sweet, i think im gonna get one for either my usa strat bridge or i might compliment it with the C22 and put it in the neck of my carvin.

  • i think with my strat, since it has a seymour duncan JB in the bridge,

im gonna put a carvin twinblade

in the mid and a seymour duncan

hot rail in the bridge. do you think

    that'll sound good?

  • put the twin blade at the neck. It's much better (in my opinion) than the cool or hot rails.

  • nice tone man. i was thinking of getting one. would you sujest it?

  • if you need a relatively inexpensive amp that can do quite a bit of stuff ok, then yeah but if you're wanting an exceptional tone, the V3 really doesn't have it. It makes up for it (somewhat) with the flexibility.

  • I like that you aren't a Carvin diehard, or if you are you can still be honest. I've read a lot of your posts on the Carvin forum and you always used to at least, write about how much you loved your legacy and v3. What happened to that? Honeymoon wore off or what? I'm looking at getting the v3 but not so sure anymore. Thoughts?

  • yeah I still think it's a good amp for the money. just doesn't have the sound I wanted. It's a solid but average tone but above average flexibility and I was willing to make the tradeoff of less flexibility but better tone with the splawn.

I think the X100b is the best amp they sell these days.

  • what fx unit are u using?

  • gmajor

  • yeah I have a couple of zoalla cables I use going from guitar to pedal board and board to amp and the pedal board itself uses the live wire elite patch cables.

Next thing I'm saving up for is a new core i7 cpu/motherboard and ram for my computer. Recording software is getting worn out trying to render superior drummer, countless plugins and half a dozen instrument tracks...

  • Wow, your sound is great here, but it's so much better with the Splawn and Parker mojo.. What's next on your To Buy list? I think you've got most of what you need already. I spent about $500 on $1000 worth of good used cables on Ebay already for my Carvin V3 and Jackson Rhoads. Next is the Splawn nitro, and I'll use the V3 for practice. Have you thought about some good cables? They can be expensive new.

  • hey if you have any free time, can you please write down you presence, drive, bass, and all the other knob levels for me?

  • no idea man.. those knobs changed on a daily basis! haha

  • JCM900 is a pile of crap. the only JCM worth owning is the pre 1985 JCM800's. Best rectos are the 6L6 power tube 2 channel versions built in the early 90's. Engl SE is awesome but WWAAAAY expensive.

Have you heard any of my splawn nitro videos? KILLER tone. It'd take a Diezel Herbert to stop it.

  • when i finally have a decent amount of money im gonna go amp hunting...but right now im torn between Marshall's Jcm 900, Mesa's recto's, thism or ENGL's SE....

  • go with either a 6505+ or engl bro to of the hottest heads out there !!! they blow away marshall and mesa ... accept the roadking...

  • for straight up metal, yeah. the powerball or framus cobra are about as good as it gets unless you can afford the herbert.. I can't STAND recto's..

  • holy shit....this amp sound amazing...way better than...i've expected from...carvin.

  • this sounds like one of the water level's music from mario 64

  • i fucking love that song :)

  • Nice playing, man. I'm thinking about getting this amp. What tuning are you in? I usually play in Drop C.

  • I was in C I think... What's your budget?

  • I thinking somewhere between $1000-$1500 new or used. For that price, I was hoping to get like a used ENGL Powerball or Rivera Knucklehead Tre or something. But this thing sounds awesom for it's price, so this will most likely be my next amp. Right now I have this shitty Solid State Crate amp that can never give me a tight enough bass response.

  • 20 bucks says its a Flexwave half stack right?

tried one of those, it sounds like an ok beginners HS. also tried one with ADA cabs instead, sounded a little better than the Crates 412 cab

  • Im curious to know if you have ever used a ts9 pedal on this amp yet? I think im going to buy one next month. The stack is $1490 now with the v30's cab. Pretty good deal for an all tube, 3 channel head. And btw nice gear you got there.

  • No I think I was using =C= 6L6 GC's for that video. The ruby EL34B-STR's are much better IMO. The best EL34's I've ever heard actually.

  • wow is that with the stock tubes? sounds good. ive heard from some people that the stocks arent so good...

  • Sick dude, nice collection of gear

  • yup.

  • So is the distortion just the amp?

  • Awesome clean tone and ripping distortion later. Great playing too.

  • amazing tone!! killer for all patches... clean was beautiful and heavy was raw and kickass... A+

  • Beautiful tone on the intro... is that an original song? BTW as long as we're talking about chorus pedals, have you ever managed to get ahold of an old BOSS DC-2? They're really awesome. Great sound out of that CE5, tho.

  • I've seen one a guy was using at a show live once. It didn't seem too bad but it was hard to judge in a full band scenario how it differed from my CE5. Anyways, I've almost phased out my CE5 as I've programmed a few patches on my nova system with various chorus sounds and I'm satisfied with their sounds.

  • Hey man I've seen you on the carvinbbs for a couple years now. I've had a DC127 for a long time, and no matter what I try, when I tune to B the intonation is horrendous. I have the saddles on the bridge all the way back and have tried a couple string gauges. The intonation issue has forced me to stick to a Les Paul for B tuning. Any hints?

  • The 127's scale length I believe is what is causing this. What gauge strings are you using? For B, I'd say at least 11' if not 12's or 13's would work best. give those a shot.

  • currently using a set of 12's. Gonna try playing around with the saddles to see if that helps.

  • well played sir. It's in B

  • whats the tuning here? drop B or drop A? or neither?

  • A full step down and then drop D tuning so drop b.

  • thanks a ton. awesome playing and tone by the way

  • what a full step down would mean dgcfad then drop d back up to dadgbe ?

  • If you go a full step down and your tuned from D to D then you drop your E string another full step you'll be at Drop C.

  • Sounds sick man. Nice playing. Is your front panel diamondplate? It looks like it. I may have to get a V3 to go with my Mark IV. Sounds like a Recto a bit.

  • yeah I had it custom made. wasn't cheap but looked great.

  • I'm sp fucking buying this amp!

  • haha have you heard the video clips of my splawn? It rips the V3 a new one. No comparison.

  • I'm thinking of getting a Carvin V3, and I wondered if you could answer me a could of questions-

Does the Carvin do a prog metal tone? I play 7 strings, so I need lots of low end. I play stuff like Dream Theater, Dragonforce, so is this amp capable of that?

My new band is metalcore, so can it achieve Killswitch/Shadows Fall type tones?

    Thanks a lot.

  • yeah it works amazingly well for that style music. Metal is what it was built to do.

  • Great, cheers. I've heard that its fizzy as hell but all the videos of it that I've seen show it with amazing tone.

  • not the best metal tone ive heard. go krank

  • Kranks are a joke. Get real.

  • I disagree. They have their own tone, very raw, great leads.

Check out Erock503's clips on UG...this is MESAexplorer btw.

  • yeah I know him and his Nitro and Diezel clips just show how much better of amps they are than the krank.

  • no thanks. I have a splawn nitro.

  • i like the tread plate you put on the front! it looks way tougher.

  • nice! What are you using for that modulation at the beginning?

  • Boss CE5. Best cheap chorus pedal ever. Mine's been going strong for 10 years.

  • small clone is best chorus pedal.

  • I tried it and really didn't like it. It wasn't deep and lush as the CE5. The damage control glass nexus is the creme of the crop though. Definately kills every chorus around.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL you like a boss over a electro harmonix LOOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • how about you go play a CE5 before joking on it. I think you'll find your EHX can't compete. Some of the top players in the world use CE5's. Adam Jones of TOOL is one of them. Steve Morse and Zakk Wylde also use it. I also use mine in stereo with a stereo preamp and power amp.. oh wait.. the EHX is mono! FAIL! LOL at the EHX indeed.

  • its alright, ive already tested both when i went to try out chorus pedals. i tested out poly chorus, small clone and ce5. and yeah, your CE5 is probably digital. :)

  • doesn't matter if it's digital if it sounds better and is more flexible and works better for me. Boss DD20 is a digital delay that works for John Petrucci but other players only swear by analog delays. Analog vs digital isn't an argument these days.

  • Don't forget Alex Lifeson of Rush.

  • do my ears deceive me? ist thou a non follower of the EHX bullshit? omg i thought i was the only one. i use the CE5....AND I HATE CHORUS!!!

  • I have a ce5 and it kicks ass. I'm looking at getting a visual sound liquid chorus which is another good one!!!

  • Excellent sound.I have a v3 with ruby el34 bstr's. sounds awesome!!! CARVIN V3 RULES!!!!!!!

  • Just ordered a BuzzBomb with Green Machine and Clone in it. Can't wait for it to get here. 6 LONG weeks to wait. That sucks.

  • Does your band have a website to check out your sound. Love your tone and playing!!!!!!! Are you running Green Machines, Clones, or Green Machine / Clone combo? Your vids all say different. Whatever it is IT ROCKS!

  • in this vid it's a carvin 4X12 legacy cab with green machines and clones. 2 of each.

  • Drop D down a step is drop C tuning(CGCFAD). Pretty much every big metal/hardcore band is tuned to that nowadays.

  • It's actually really good at low volumes becuase you have a master volume you can use. As with all tube amps though, the louder it gets, the better it sounds :D

  • What song are you playing?

  • nothing in particular. I never really play anything specific in my videos.

  • What did you tune down to?

  • I think a full step down and then drop D tuning...which I believe was B.

  • that would be C

  • Yup, its B.

  • Would you make a video showing off what your Diezel can do?

  • I don't own a Diezel. We have a store in town that carries them.

  • The V3 doesn't need to be modded and not everyone has $4000 to spend on an amp. I've played the V4HS, herbert and Einstein and the Einstein is the only one I'd take on stage with me. I play stuff besides metal and the V4HS and Herbert can't do blues or classic rock.

  • Would you say that the v3 can do blues or classic rock on top of its obvious metal capabilities? or did i misinterpret what you said?

  • Dude, your demo of the V3 beats the crap out of the one on Carvin's site. I think you just sold me on it (and I was looking at a JVM or Stiletto).

  • Unfortunately, I agree with you. Carvin just released a new V3 video with Angelo someone and the tone was absolutely AWFUL. I actually have a hard time getting mine to sound that bad. I guess they're using the stock junk tubes and have the amp at a whisper volume :(

  • So what did you switch the tubes to?

  • Never mind! I just saw the SED Winged C post. Great tubes.

  • great tone is it through the amp on it's own or any effects for eq. i was looking into a V3 for some time or a peavey XXX. great job playing

  • Just the guitar plugged into the amp. None of the pedals on the pedal board were used.

  • hey I've been thinking of buying a carvin head, either an MTS3200 or a V3. I've heard good (and some bad) things about both of those, but I was wondering if you had an opinion. I play death metal in general, but I also do a lot of clean work, and dabble in jazz/blues. I would just buy the V3, but it's $300 more than the 3200.

  • The V3 will wipe the floor with the MTS in every way imaginable. You won't be disappointed.

  • can the v3 head do killswitch engage distortion?

  • I've never listened to KSE before but check out my other V3 videos to get an idea of what all sorts of overdrive sounds the V3 has. It's eq is EXTREMELY powerful (a lot like the mesa mark series active eq'ing if you've ever used one of those.)

  • is yor v3 diamond plated?

  • Yeah but you'll have to find someone local who does water jet cutting and take them the original face plate and a blank sheet of diamond plate to cut.

  • Thats a killer tone. Is that riffing from an actual song or made up?

  • Just making up stuff as I go. Almost all my vids are improv.

  • You have it with 6L6´s or with EL34´s?

  • SED Winged C 6L6GC's.

  • nice tone

  • Hey Drew this is Awake from the Carvin forums - awesome playing man and kick ass tone:) You are like the internet's V3 spokesman:)

  • Hey Drew whats your bass at? My V3 seems way to bassy and muffled.
