We just finished this exact project for a lab at Washington State University's EE214 class. It was fun. The only difference is ours incremented every 1/1000th of a second. It had start, stop, reset and manual increment (while stopped) buttons. Good job. Nice use of the scanning 7-segment display. Play with your own board at: digilentinc(dot)com !
