I actually use the Pro Audio Spectrum16 card now... it has a less noisier output than the sb16 !

I basically only remember the chip by game music, which used a generic MIDI driver, and sounded quite awful. One wanted to get a WaveBlaster ASAP. This simply didn't do justice to this quite capable soundchip. Surprisingly, SEGA MegaDrive music was usually mediocre too.

But this one's simply great, although i'm sure less chippy music is possible too.

Well, one reason why Genesis/MegaDrive music might've sounded so mediocre was due to the complexity of FM synthesis. To the uninitiated (like myself), even a simple two-operator FM synth (like the Yamaha PSS-680 or the OPL-2) can be extremely difficult to wrap one's head around.

So.. I'm gonna go back to messing with the synths I have and try to learn 'em over the next year.

I have both an FTM tracker, which is for Sega Genesis, and an Adlib Tracker which is for OPL2/OPL3 music like in this video.

I have to say, I still can't get good instruments out of the TFM tracker, but I only had the Adlib tracker for a few days and yet I already have good sounding instruments.

I need to upload the song I created on Adlib, because it uses ambient instruments I don't beleive could be done on the Sega Genesis's YM2612.
