  • Mainstream ? Just because Bedlam had melodies that stuck with you a little bit more you call an album mainstream ... Good music is good music ... Who cares if something sounds " mainstream" or not ... let TMV do what they do !!!

  • Owow. And I thought I was done listening to this band after the mess that was Bedlam. This sounds pretty damn good.

  • "They don't care what we think about their music, so why should we?" so true.

  • I want a live Dvd or album from "The Mars Volta". Scab Dates was a good one, but it would be good to listen to another one.

  • I've got a bunch of cool live MARS VOLTA / AT THE DRIVE IN gigs on dvd if anyone's interested...I've been filming & collecting shows for 18yrs and have hundreds listed on my site. Any other tapers/filmers email me with your lists...

  • this song is so sick!

  • agreed

  • i dont know why, but this song reminds me of the kim possible theme song.

its got that secret agent theme vibe, am i right? I feel like i could be jumping outta window with shades getting shot at while this song is blasting.

  • I like Amputechture more every time I hear it . I know it is cliche but I think it was just ahead of the time.

  • This is pure arse.

  • I like all their albums equally, but each for different reasons.

  • Exactly the same way I feel about their albums to dude.

  • There's a lot of people that say Amputechture is their favorite Volta album. No offense to anyone, but it has to be my least favorite. From what I've read, I believe it's the band's least favorite as well. I think they referred to it as their step-child or something derogative. We all have our opinions, I was just kinda shocked to see how much people really like Amputechture.

  • Who cares what they think. They don't care what we think about their music, so why should we? I love Amputechture regardless of what anybody has to say about it.

  • I know, I was surprised as well. The Bedlam in Goliath easily beats Amputechture. However, my favorite has to be De-Loused in the Comatorium, that's one excellent album right there.

  • The Bedlan In Goliath could never beat Amputechture.

Indeed is "The Bedlam In Goliath" their worst album till now.

It is too mainstream compared to other albums.

  • 1. Frances

    2. Amputechture

    3. De-Loused

    4. Bedlam

    5. Tremulant

  • Agreed. I would put them in the same order

  • no if you're talking about the order they were released, it's.

    1. De-Loused

    2.Frances

    3.Amputechture

    4.Bedlam in Goliath

    5.Octahedron.

Idk about Tremulant or scab dates. I think they may have been in between Deloused in the comatorium and Frances the mute.

  • tremulant came before de-loused and your right about scabdates it was in the middle of de-loused and frances

  • ....Sigh....

  • as mars volta fans, which song do you think is the best song they ever wrote? its a tough question and its hard to define but i would say tetragrammaton

  • i almost wanted to agree with you, but Concertina and Intertiatic and Roulette Dares and and and and....... are also sooooooooooo good!

    1. Tremulant, Amputechture, Deloused, Scab Dates

    2 Bedlam, Frances

and Octahedron is gonna be my nr 1 if it comes out.. i love new volta stuff!

  • i dont understand how you guys think amputechture isnt their best. "day of the baphomets" was incredeible, "viscera eyes"?? and "tetragrammaton"?? omar's 1 minute epic intro solo i jizzed when i first heard it i had to get a new pair of pants to finish the song

  • You're right. Amputechture is underrated as hell.

  • 1-de loused

    2-bedlam

    3-frances the mute

    4-tremulant

    5-amputechture

  • 1. Bedlam, Frances, De-Loused, Tremulant, Amputechture.

Every song is sent from god you haters.

  • werrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd

  • 1. Bedlam

    2. Frances

    3. De-Loused

    4. Tremulant

    5. Amputechture

I don't even understand how people hate Bedlam at all. It's definitely my favorite album by TMV. Metatron? C'mon, people.

  • 1. deloused

    2.frances

    3. tremulant

    4. amputechture

    5. bedlam

aim i right! this album is shapping up good. its i was starting to worry after belam but not anymore!

  • Wow. Awesome just like Tsim Fuckis.

  • Cannot wait for octahedron and seeing them again at lolla

  • 1-Frances the mute

    2-Amputechture

    3-Deloused

    4-Bedlam

    5-Tremulant

  • This is awesome! It's sounds like the heaviness of "Goliath" mixed with the dynamics of "Frances"! The 23rd can't come soon enough!

  • This is like action movie intro kind of awesome.

  • gawd- this song is like coming back home after a long vacation

it welcomes you in and envelops you

    thank you TMV

  • pretty good stuff...this and Since We've Been Wrong are awesome so far.

  • the album as a whole carries a theme of disappearance. It's about two of Cedric and Omars friends that went missing and the possibility of seeing them again, it's some heavy shit. That's where you get "Dragging the lake"

Yes, I have listened to the whole album. It's their best just under Amputechture

  • they just keep getting better.

  • God this shit is good.

  • Sound like there old stuff, which is fucking bad ass!

  • weird that you got 2 thumbs down. this song reminds me of "a plague upon your hissing" a lot. lovin' this album so far.

  • mmm yeah this is better than wax

  • I still like to watch the Oscars! Hugh J. was great. I did not like last years overpolitical pot shots! Isn't it great that we can love this industry and still have different views! We are lucky! Stepped in What! Am home sick and coughing and accidentally found this channel. Do it!

  • thomas pridgen is god

  • Well, this IS more mellow, but it sounds really nice.

  • love this song, cant wait for that album

  • damn this is a much much better single than wax simulacra...Just plain catchier

  • agree

  • i instantly linked with this song

  • Come June 23rd, we won't survive. We won't stop dragging the lake.

  • Lol damn Cedric says that in many of his lyrics. You know what it means? The dragging the lake part. Kuz I've heard him say cutting rivers, and dragging lakes, and splitting water. I just don't know what it means. It's very perplexing.

  • dragging lakes, as far as I'm aware, is when they search a body of water for something lying on the water's bed (not waterbed... different things) that wouldn't be visible on the surface - like dead bodies, etc.

  • drag the lake is what they do when theyre looking for dead bodies at the bottom of a body of water

  • is the link legit?

  • 1:29 - 2:05. Very reminiscent to King Crimson. Always a pleasure to see.

  • And why the hell did my comment jump here. That was pointed towards ybtt's comment...

(Oh and btw, yes I am a musician, even though that does not matter at all when it comes to listening to music)

  • i have no favorite albums. just favorite songs

  • francestremulantbedlamamputechturedeloused> !

  • I'm 15 years and I love the mars volta. they are incredibles and only ones

  • best age to get into prog!!!

  • Thank god for something catchy from them again. :thumbs up:

  • I don't get why people slag Amputechture.

Meccamputechture is easily one of my fave MV tracks. Chorus is catchy as syphillis.

  • well put

    :)

  • To mAtthhheaLy: Do you like Tetragrammaton as a whole?

    It fucking slays.

  • @pimpsauce57

    (awesome name, by the way)

    yeah, yeah I do!

  • anyone who thinks Bedlam is their "worst" album is pretty clearly not a musician themselves. I don't understand how you could ever think that the mind blowing avalanche of beats from Pridgen is less interesting than the Tremulant EP,,,

  • To be fair tremulant is only a ep..

  • well i care more about songwriting than the drums in a song, and i play drums. some songs on bedlam are kinda shit i think.

  • ill agree that songwriting was a little bit of a problem on bedlam but i dont think the drums were the problem. i just think some songs as a whole were not that appealing. they were more of just ok and not something special than being overloaded with drums. but tracks like goliath and agadez really had some nice grooves.

  • Comment removed

  • yes, amputecture was better than bedlam as well. thanks. i was up way past my bed time when i posted that.

  • i thought bedlam was terrible. I love all their albums and this one is shaping up to be pretty good.

    Deloused>Tremulant>Frances>Bedlam

  • errr what about amputechure?

  • i never liked them

but this song really got me

  • Cedric sounds a little than he did in ATDI at least to me. maybe hes older or something.. anyways just got into ADTI a few weeks ago, been listening to them nonstop. MV is completely nu to me, different but good!

  • hmm. bedlam was brilliant. just like all there albums, they progress so much each time that even though it still has that general mars volta vibe to it, it could easily be a different band.

they arent afraid of losing fans, as its complete creativity, those who like all there albums truly enjoy a wide spectrum of music.

who can actually say that agadez, goliath, metatron, ourorborous and conjugal burns are bad songs?

    frances>tremulant>deloused>bedlam>amputechture.

  • Everyone is making all these comparisons with either jon anderson or geddy lee, i think what would be cool is if they covered maybe one song by either band juts cos i think they could and make it sound interesting

  • HOLY SHIT!!! If this is what they call acoustic....cant wait for their metal album :P

  • that's bedlam your talking about. ;)

en amp is there jazz album

    frances their symphony album

    scabdates their 'live'album

    deloused their punk album

but what about tremulant, can think of anything :P

  • I loved bedlam lol

  • i heard they died

  • I seriously hope this song isn't the only Bedlamish one

  • I dont understand how so many people don't like bedlam!

  • shit sounds hot

  • Bedlam is great..

  • what choice of word...bedlam "rox"

  • I personally thinks he sounds a lot like Geddy Lee from Rush except way way better... no disrespect to Geddy Lee... Cedric is just insane. One of the best ever imo.

  • anyone who said zack de la rocha is a fucking idiot. nobody sounds like that crazy fool.

  • You can't be a an idiot for having a different opinion. :s

  • what the guy below me said.

  • cotopaxi = three and a half minutes of pure audio rape.

  • if u had to compare cedrics voice to someone, who who it be? i cant think of anyone.

  • it's some mix of geddy lee and zach de la rocha....closest i can come to it

  • Most likely Geddy Lee from Rush.

  • No one really. That's why I love it so much.

  • It would be Jon Anderson from Yes.

  • Jach de la rocha meets jeff buckley

  • this is gonna sound so weird, but it's a mix of the singer from heart and..... and the singer of yes..... a bit of robert plant from led zeplin... but in the end no one. cedric has his own voice.

  • damn these dudes are prolific

  • I find it extremely entertaining that all you pussies are complaining. The truth of the matter is that the Volta are gonna put out another badass album regardless of what you think about it. Why would you nitpick about a brand new album from one of the best bands in the world. LOL @ all of you. I'm just gonna buy the fucking album and enjoy the fuck out of it.

  • Your Logic is sound...

  • i know its hard kids but try to stop comparing all their albums to each other. ok. this is gonna be different, if you actually let go of deloused, frances, amputecture, and bedlam you can listen to the album and appreciate it. for god sakes just live in it

  • Fuck yeah tell it how it is brother speak the truth! All Mars Volta albums are great in their own way. Appreciate don't hate!

  • Shit! im so excited for this song!! i want more more MORE!!

  • just shut up

  • too bad this is only a small portion of the song probably, seeing as how its only 3 minutes long, doesn't sound very mars volta to me.

  • wax simulacra?

  • tourniquet man too.

as well as all those "songs" from frances the mute that are under a minute.

and by "all" i mean two.

  • i honestly don't like torniquet man :S

but dude... every single other song by mars volta is farking sick

  • Those aren't songs, those are parts of cassandra gemmini - one song.

I'm so happy there's a new album! I'm going to have to take up smoking skunk again

  • That's why I said "songs". =)

  • No, this is really the length.

  • thats what they mean by their 'acoustic album'... thats the real length.

  • So anybody know who will be playing rythem guitar on tour?

  • paul

  • Robert Carranza, the guy who recorded Bedlam and got Pridgen's awesome drum sound so perfectly recorded my band's Debut Album: "Invisible Mental Tentacles" which will be out later this summer. We are called CITYZEN. Mars Volta fans keep an eye out for it...

    Chris (Keys)

    CITYZEN

  • I dont get why people bash bedlam,I think its agreat album, and Pridgen is amazing

  • pridgen really didnt practice restraint. it was probably omar directing him not to in the first place for some odd faux-artistic reason but its just annoying to me and the songs kindof fall apart because of the unsupportive, rediculous drumming. some parts are golden though, like the funk passage in metatron or the beginning of oroburos

  • thats true, one of my favorite songs isIleyna, the other is cavaletas.I love the sax solo near the end.agadez is another good one for me too.

  • Their music is good at giving you vertigos.

  • This album will probably be better than Bedlam.

  • doubtful

  • The last half of Bedlam has really annoying choruses. That's all I'm gonna say.

  • hhaaaaaaaaaa. I think the first half of bedlam has annoying choruses. Aberinkula, metatron, goliath, wax. i love them but i mean metatron, come on. "maybe ill break down..."

  • Lol. I can't stand "DON'T YOU EVER (EVER) EVER (EVER) EVER TRUST MY MERCY.

  • That's my favorite song on Bedlam :(

  • oh

    god

    yes!

  • laurita

  • cant wait for the new album.

  • This album looks very promising, i can't wait for it!

  • i think this is a lot like the stuff off of amputechture, especially the effect on cedric's vocals

  • I CANT FUCKING WAIT

  • lol wtf chillout people its just one album and its not like omar has changed his taste in music, listen to his solo albums its crazy shit..lets listen to this album that im shure will b great and wait for the next one to be full of special effects that we all love to listen to while we r high

  • They said this would be their acoustic album. Maybe their idea of an acoustic album would be like stripping away alot of the special effects and sound tweaks he puts in the song. So rather then all the random weird ambient sounds we'll get a more maybe cohesive sound. This song doesnt sound as expiremental as the others did

  • yea their sound manipulator and horns guy aren't mentioned as contributers...

  • Its more mellow. Its a little more of what we consider our acoustic side singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala told Australian radio station Triple J of the new record. We know how people can be so linear in their way of thinking, so when they hear [the new album], theyre going to say, This is not an acoustic album! Theres electricity throughout it! But its our version, the singer said. Thats what our band does — celebrate mutations. Its our version of what we consider an acoustic album.

  • Omar spells it out for the fans loud and clear in the interview "Never heard a man speak like this man before." They originally said this was going be more of an acoustic album, but he really just composes whats on his head at the time and whatever comes up. TMV is way to creative to be stuck in one state of mind for a whole album.

  • well said.

  • this isn't even that mainstream. quit freakin out. this album is gonna be great.

  • Hopefully it's more like DeLoused. Maybe Omar has taking some pointers from Rick Rubin like he did with DeLoused. Come on Omar you can still sellout to the public and make amazing songs. Listen to Rick Rubin!!!!

  • The Deloused album was where the band was at in its early stages. The songs are timeless but they've moved on. If you go to a TMV show, you'll hear the Deloused songs have taken new turns, and are still evolving with continued experimentation. Cedric says they did one show where they played Deloused just as it sounds on cd, and it was the worst they'd ever played, he felt completely empty, for there was no creation or experimentation.

  • True, I 've seen them live four times and yes the deloused songs always sound better becuase they change them up a bit with improvisation and what not. I'm not one of those people who hate every album but Deloused either by the way. Every album rocks and bedlam started getting more structured which I want to hear and this song is structured so I'm excited for the new one. Have you heard the song Frances the Mute sick ass song! I'm very happy they won a grammy too.

  • de loused is the most amazing album ever made

  • Within the context of the album, this song will be great. Everything they do is great, so...

  • WE'LL BE LUCKY IF WE EAT TONIGHT!

  • has "since we've been wrong" been released to radio yet?

  • no, not to my knowledge

  • i dont like it, sounds like a typical mainstream rock, but "since we ve been wrong" is nice.

  • Almost on every album mars volta put out has that short mainstream sounding song on them. this is octa's short "normal rock" song

  • yea but this one comparing to even their most "normal rock" songs sounds really typical, maybe because of lack of saxophone and all that stuff, they just sound so poorly, i dont know i will give it a try.

  • they always said in interviews that they love pop music and once said they are pop music...so.....

  • lol,not

  • yea, watch the nissan live set interview and others...

  • volta is poppy in the very grand perspective of music.

  • in some cases

  • yeah they kinda are, like their songs are usually pretty catchy.

  • Didn't they say this would be their acoustic album?

  • yeah in a volta way!!!

  • yeah i heard that too, i know they released a different single to the US. and its definitely more acoustic. cant wait for the album anyway!

  • ending transition sounds Mr. Muggs-ish a bit.

  • sounds better than bedlam! chyea! keep those amazing vocals rollin out!

  • The ending is pretty interesting, I'll keep checking that site just in case.

  • wow youtube really kills the quality

  • still sounds good to me...
