  • I know the feeling of going back home and seeing it how it was but knowing it was not real. Its a happy sad feeling, maybe peaceful is the word.

  • As much as I love Mr. Thornton, I must say that Margaret and Mr. Bell make a nice pair hihi :D

  • Mr. Bell tried to help Mr. Thornton get Margaret .... at least a little bit...

  • OMG! The sun has returned!!!

  • Love Mr. Bell's pants. XD

  • Poor girl, every time she visits her childhood home, the happiness is ruined by an unwanted proposal =(

  • forget Heathcliff (never liked him much), THIS is where it's at!

  • His voice ... honestly it sounds like smooth jazz and sex

  • ah i love mr. bell

  • Everybody dies around her.....WHY..????

  • @EdwardostheSecond i know! exactly!

  • In the beginning of the scene the actor who plays Thornton is very expressful, that prooves that he's a great actor!

  • bahahaha! Mr.Bell i shilarious. i love him:)

  • "I hate to think Mr. Thornton thinks badly of me"

    Yeah right..."and I love him!!!"

  • she has 3 down and I can't even get one

  • like if you would've looked back

  • All along I had a strange feeling that Mr. Bell thought of Margaret in a creepy way. and i was right. He is practically a pedo. ewwwwww

  • @34RiverStone I agree. It may have worked out for Marianne and Colonel Brandon--mostly because Wiloughby (totally spelled his name wrong) was an ass and Brandon genuinely felt love for Marianne--but it's just wrong in this case. What's even weirder is that Mr. Bell was her father's friend. But I get that he's a little lonely...I just wish that he didn't pick Margaret.

  • @apRilL11994 exactly!

  • his face at 8:05, it's like "for gods sake what next! Please give me a break from the torment" lol

  • Mr. Bell's pants FTW!! haha

And I don't think it's a creepy thing with his proposal. It's more of a, I want to take care of her and this is the best way I can do it type thing.

  • Mr. Bell could have played The Doctor in the 70s with that getup

  • @rdelcore63 HAHA! SO true!!!

  • "... She had just the same look on her face...." I must admit, this actress seems to have only two expressions, positive, and negative. When she's sad, gelous, distressed, she has the SAME look. Bleh.

  • EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! And she was so chummy with him! At least he was still generous!

  • margaret would it have KILLED you to look back at him?!?!?!! .....then again, seeing how the course of events in this film have transpired, i can see why she'd think it might.....lol

  • You're supposed to be her GUARDIAN, Mr Bell ..... not angling for marriage and a quick shag!!! Be off with you; and take ur pyjamma trousers with you!

  • Gaahhh!! I can't stand how sexy he is!!! =D so unfair, this movie gives me false hope for finding someone like this!

  • Oh to be wanted like that, by such a man...

  • 6:12 she's like "oh no not again!"

  • almost cried when he says "look back at me..." and she doesn't

  • "look back at me"...so intense...it gives me shivers :)

  • Mr.Bell has the best dress-sense EVER.

  • I admire Margaret's independent attitude, but I think she could have a bit more tact.

  • Margaret get rid of the bloody hat already!

  • I like Mr. Bell... he is handsome (even for his age), amusing and nice.

  • @Persiansweetcat1 I agree :)

  • The beginning of this clip is one of my favorite scenes from this drama! And Mr. Bell's trousers are awesome!

  • good film but i wish shed no wear that bloomin hat all the time

  • Not easily impressed, but you really can see his eyes go from hope to longing to utter despair in the beginning of this. Somebody paid attention at acting school.

  • How very good of Mr. Thornton to not hate Margaret after all he thought she had done! And why, why on earth didn't Mr Bell tell Mr Thornton that her reasons for the Frederick/Station misunderstanding were quite honorable?

  • "Look back, look back at me"

    That broke my heart :(

  • @pattygomes1

yeah, terrible. it's like he already envisions a future without her. married to some woman he doesn't love and still thinking of margaret as the one that got away.

  • @pattygomes1 Whenever I watch this scene... I want to hold him tight and shout out:

"FORGET HER... AND TAKE ME... ME! I WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY - LET ME START OUT TO DO IT!!"

  • @BLUAMOONA !!!WINK!!!

  • @pattygomes1 I actually screamed "LOOK AT HIM IDIOT!!" My mom was like "Huh?" lol

  • Mr. Bell has got STYLE! Lol

  • "Look back, look back at me" OH MY GAWWWWWD!!!!!!!

  • Tough sport for thornton to be in. He cant stop her becuase she already rejected him, yet he dosnt want her to completly disappear from his life.

  • I hate how Margaret blinks and she never seems to make eye contact when she's speaking to someone. It's like she's constantly stoned because her eyes roll around in the sockets, half way blinking and staring out into nothingness. The actress needs to fix that acting behavior because it drives me nuts and I can't think of anything else but that.

  • Three proposals blimey!

  • I would believe its cold if I can see their breath......

  • I love Mr. Bell, but I accidentally double-clicked on 1:28 and I can't stop laughing now because I'm really immature.

  • um well that was awkward, the entire conversation between Margaret and Mr. Bell

  • Look back!!!! :(( Damn it.

  • everyone is DYING!!!! UGHH

  • GAH! Can there be any more profound words than the words John Thornton utters?! "Look back ... Look back at ME" Guh, called me gut-wrenched and in love. Why doesn't she look back, damn it! Richard Armitage delivered that scene to perfection. He really is the perfect John Thornton. Love the music too. And Mr. Bell! lol! He's such a riot.

  • @EverlastingxHope If you haven't read the book yet, do! I actually read it recently, but it's one of my favorite novels now. The characters are just so intensely real, and the ending is beautiful--slightly different to how they ended this series, but really fantastic. The series does the book justice, I think :)

  • ARGHHHH!!!! LOOK BACK, woman!!

  • Well she got the love of three men!!

  • If I ever knew I forget why Thorton dislikes Mr. Bell so much. Why does he?

  • Broke my heart when he said "look back" and she didn't...

  • Mr Bell is so funny, trying to be a matchmaker. Lol.

  • LOOK BACK!!! LOOK BACK!!!

  • I cried when she imagined her parents sitting there and waving at her.

  • Wow 'Uncle' Bell... way to drop some bombshells.

Pfft who cares, he has AWESOME TROUSERS!!!

  • I feel so sad for Margaret when she sees her parents at her home! She has been through so much yet is so strong!

  • If she had looked back, he would have done the whole romantic-run-through-the-snow-after-the-carriage-to-kiss-her-and-propose-again thing. Then, the movie would have ended 20 minutes early. Sigh, the emotional edge this film keeps us on.

Ironic that the Mr. Bell's magistrate is Thornton.

  • If she had looked back, he would have done the whole romantic-run-through-the-snow-after-the-carriage-to-kiss-her-and-propse-again thing.

  • What does Mr. Thornton say at the very beginning? His accent's a little hard to understand sometimes, (for me anyway.)

  • @canadarox14 he says, "look back… look back at me."

  • The music is wonderful !!

  • yes, look back, look back!

  • I MUST HAVE MR. BELL'S PANTS AT 4:15! Geeve them to meeeeee!

  • "I...saw my doctor..." Holy cow, if I were her I would be like, "WHY DOES EVERYBODY I KNOW DIE???"

  • Margaret look back...you have being doing it ever seen you met Mr. Thorton and now you don't look back!!! aww his face of disappointment!!

  • @katalina125 Come to think of it, I think he knew that she used to look back at him. Why would he be waiting for it now, if that wasn't the case?

  • It is so sad when she goes back to Helston and "sees" her parent's there. She must miss them so much. =/

  • Oh my goodness! "Look back. Look back at me." Why didn't she look back!!! Was it because she though he was going to marry that other girl? I know she likes him now!! Why didn't she look back!

  • I like BBC's depiction of Mr. Thornton. I wasn't sure exactly how to envision him when I read the book. They got it perfect, because I absolutely love Mr. Thornton here. The book doesn't exactly let me in on the smoldering eyes and absolutely hotness that is absolutely the making of Mr. Thornton. But that's how I wanted him to be.

  • That is so touching to see how distressed he is about her not being there.....I am such a helpless romantic

  • Mr. Bell creeps me out.....he creeped me out from the beginning I don't know why....he's just.. I get bad vibrations from him...

  • @MassEffectgrandia2 Totally agree! I got that "He's into her" vibe the first time he appeared and called her a "goddess." Total creeper

  • Why didn't you look back Margaret? The emotion in Thornton's voice was so touching....ah, i love that scene....

  • AWWWWWWWWW she didnt look back,im dissapointed even now after watching it 4 times already......and the way he said it ahhhhhhhhh im melting!!!!!!

  • God margaret LOOK BACK!

  • "Look back. Look back at me."

When he said that, I realized that all this time, whenever Margaret walks away from Thornton, she always looks back. But NOT this time. Man, I love that scene.

  • In the dutch version of the book there are 702 pages, wow what difficult for 2 people to get each other

  • omg ... does she SRSLY not look back? :( GRRR

  • I like Mr. Bell, he has balls of steel, I guess that what you do when your dying, no time to pussy foot ! Mr. Thornton has won me over he rivals Mr. Darcy I have to get this book and movie.

  • 'Look back. Look back at me'

    :(

  • i felt something in my chest when he said look back look back at me!omg

  • Everybody keeps saying that Mr. Bell is a creeper, but I actually really like his character. He really cares for Mr. Hale and Margaret and it really wasn't that unusual for a young girl like Margaret to marry an aging man like him. After all, just look at Fanny and her husband. Even she admitted he was "grey". There's something about Mr. Bell that's super mischievous but also caring.

  • Mr. Bell,

This girl refused Mr. Thornton. Do you seriously think she'd even CONSIDER you? Miss Hale has high standards, you must understand, you CREEPY OLD DOG YOU.

However, your checked trousers are quite legendary.

  • @fabziepie lol thank you very much for your comment :D it made Bell asking her much more bareable

  • at 5.30, I always think of the lines from Pride and Prejudice; 'I can't stand to think he is alive in the world, and thinking ill of me' or something to that effect :)

  • @fabziepie Doesn't also remind you of some lines in Breaking Dawn where Edward said, "I couldn't live in a world without you in it?" "Something to that effect." lol Did't think of the PP reference tho'. Interesting. Thanks. :)

  • "we could all live in one big house"! eh no!

  • this movie is very unrealistic...no woman can walk away from a man like that without looking back at the very least!

  • Poor Mr Thornton. So hearbreaking when she doesn't look back at him.

  • Helston is so bright and beautiful...It's like a dream!

  • I get that her hat isn't very pretty but why does it bother so many people?? I mean...it's just a hat.

  • where is the part when she says goodbye to to nicholas and mary??

  • Love how he tells her all this information, then he's like anyway, let's go eat

  • Mr. Bells idea is kinda...eeeeeewwww...weird....telling mr. hale that hes seeing after her when he dies and then with marriage, come one, old hag, you re much older than her and probably dying next month, what should she then do?!

If I would be in that situation I would have taken Henry or John. No one else..but as shes in love with John(and me btw, too) mr Thornton is the right man.he was and is the best man I`ve ever seen in my life.

  • it's weird, but Mr Bell kind of reminds me of Robert Downey Jr lol

  • Erm Margaret, I wonder if anyone has ever told you that firstly: get rid of your brown hat for the love of God D: and secondly: LOOK BACK!!!

That's it, I've got to have this book, can anyone who has read it be kind enough to tell me what to expect? :)

  • @EverlastingxHope It's afreat read if you're used to books like Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice. The film has significant differences in the beginning (when they meet) and at the end. I lfeel that the changes they made actually improved the story.

  • @EverlastingxHope I started it, it is very good!

About 400 pages I'm at 100 ;) Mr. Thornton's pretty hot in it as well

  • @EverlastingxHope

The book is absolutely fantastic, it's one of my favorites. An absolutely captivating read- Gaskell has quite a way with words. I didn't think i'd like it better than the TV series, but it is absolutely better!

  • @PurpleInkling

Thanks! I'm reading it online now for I'm still hunting for the book of which I can't find :(

  • @EverlastingxHope Overall it's satisfying because the characters are so much richer and she tells the tale well in mesmerizing language, but it was more cumbersome for me than, say, Jane Austen, because the dialect was so difficult to decipher and remember, even with a glossary in the back, and all the classical allusions at the beginnings of the chapters slowed things down. Some of them even had little to do with N & S. Also, Margaret's beauty was overly rhapsodized. The end's worth is though!

  • @EverlastingxHope I read it before I knew of this miniseries and I enjoyed it. It is clearly a different story than, say, Pride and Prejudice, but by the end I really respected the author and what she had to say. It kind of makes Pride and Prejudice seem frivolous or something, but they are both good. :) I got different images of the main characters in my head than what I see in the movie. I think that I liked my Margaret a little better than this one. You'll have to tell me how you like it!

  • @EverlastingxHope I myself loved the book because of the tension between Margaret and Thorton and the build up until the end. Some of the characters are different in the book but it's still a great read.

  • @EverlastingxHope : I'm reading it right now. It proceeds quite a bit slower than the film; there's a lot more narration and loads of long dialogue. BUT you get a better understanding of why she refuses him the first time, as well as more info about their perceptions of each other. There's also a deeper analysis of the role that religion plays in various characters' lives, including Bessy and Higgins. I still love the film and I'm convinced that the screenwriter did an outstanding job.

  • @EverlastingxHope the book is awesome. i will not give things away. and even though the beginning was kinda slow and hard to get into it is worth getting through it and to the parts with Mr. Thornton.

  • @EverlastingxHope hate that hat!! she even wore it to mr. thorntons sisters wedding! seriously!!! lol

  • @she646

THAT....THAT HAT! D: Hahaha I like the black headdress she wears at the beginning of the video :)

  • @EverlastingxHope

    It's a terrific read...

  • 2:00 Oh how the tears were running down my face when I saw Margaret imagining her parents sitting in hellston...

  • Plus Mr. Bell was being a little nasty... Lol

  • How can't help but wonder what would have happened if she did look back... Anyway I was screaming it the whole time. And was very disappointed when she didn't lol. He loves her still... Sooooo much! And she's starting to realize she loves him too!!

  • @mo95261 I don't know if you've read the book or not, but the book shows that they both felt attracted to each other right after they first met. But she let her pride get in the way, not wanting people to think that she did what she did at the riot so that Thornton would feel grateful to her. But yeah, I think she only knows for sure that this is love at the end, when she hears of Thornton's misfortune.

  • I've been trying to figure out what he said @0:18- @0:22 for the longest. OMGosh thanks for telling me. I'm so happy he still had hope. It also show that even he had noticed up her pattern of taking a second look after she would leave him. LOL I love this show.

  • Oh my god! The same (ridiculous) brown hat after 3 years!

  • Oh my god! The same (ridiculous) brown hat after 3 years!

  • OMG WHAT A PERV

  • I feel an urge to scream: LOOK BACK FOR THE LOVE FOR GOD.

    Ohmygosh Mr Thornton :)

  • awwwwwww :''''''( FOR CRYING OUT LOUD LOOK BACK MARGRET

  • I love Mr. Bell :)

  • @SakuraX7 So do I. He's blunt but with good will and has a lovely sense of humour. And I always admire the way he reacting to Margaret's "rejection" of his offer and the grace he showed in the face of death. And of course, his trying to let Thornton know Margaret's feeling for him. Love Mr. Bell.

  • my good, talk about breaking the news.....akward conversation.....

    lol

  • omg lordy....

i want a mr. thorton... so bad!!!

  • LOL "Yes, well, I am your God Father but I had hoped to marry you, anywho, I'm dying, and, by the way, everything I own is yours. TA TA!" The way he threw out three traumatic things into a two minute conversation was hilarious! Mr. Bell, you old dog! She's like "WTF just happened...ew pedophile!"

  • @lepsychokaybird You hit the nail on the head!!

  • @lepsychokaybird

Could NOT have said it better myself.

It's like watching little explosions go off in her head.

"I may be your guardian but I wanna marry you" ::KABOOOOM::

"BT dubbs I'm leaving everything to you" ::KABOOOOM::

"Cuz I'm leaving for Argentina" ::KABOOOOM::

    "To DIE there" ::KABOOOOM::

    O_o

  • @lepsychokaybird omg! that said it all lmao ...i so agree with you .

  • @lepsychokaybird originally, I thought he was a closet because of his snappy trousers, but I know I just guess that he's a sharp dresser

  • @lepsychokaybird LMAO. That whole scene just made me go, "Huh?"

  • It's so wrong and uncomfortable seeing her in 'the south'. It just shows how this series has been so good, and how, as a viewer, I've really travelled through the story with her :) And that old guy's so nice - it's a shame he's dying and all - but eww he actually thought of marrying her. Sorry but you don't really have a chance against Thornton old man XD ...

  • Oh... LOVE...

  • I always knew that Mr.Bell had other intentions towards Margaret! xDD

  • @anatinoni It's not an easy thing to care for a woman as her godfather and A MAN as the same time and still be so lovable! Mr.Bell is a treasure!

  • She looks back at all the wrong times in the rest of the movie....WHY DOESN'T SHE LOOK BACK HERE!!!!! I was SO mad at her for hurting him the first time I saw this part.

  • this has got to be the MOST depressing book--everyone dies!!!

  • Oh. My. God. 'Look back at me' just completely ripped my heart out and fed it through a shredder! :'(

  • @murraythehotscot

    wuthering heights is worse..

  • @Kareena1988 That's another one on my list to read :)

  • @murraythehotscot

but that is sad and depressing, i havent liked it.

  • I just had to watch again when he said, "look back, look back at me." My goodness how romantic!

  • Mr.Bell is awesome.

  • What is this idea that for some one to proof they like u then they have to look back when they walk away. I mean the way they look at u should be a enough proof.

  • I love Mr. Bells´ trousers!

  • Look back at me......my favorite part!

  • WHY DIDNT SHEE LOOK BACKKKKKKKKKKKKK ! hahaha dammm so sexy ghahaha

  • did she look back?!i would have

  • hmmm..I wonder if Margaret is wearing black to mourn her father or to mourn Mr. Thorton..I never noticed this before. But suddenly she looks like she belongs in his world.

  • Such wonderful acting in the moments he's watching her drive away. You can see the dim hope, then quiet heartbreak, disappointment in himself. His judgement of himself is too harsh!

  • you know, margaret should wait till the annoying sister and cling y mother die, and then run back to Thorton!

  • Headstrong girl! Let's break her neck 'til she looks back ay him!!!
