Very cool video I am hoping to move to Alaska sometime soon. What about horse property does this area have any decent property for livestock? I used to live in Craig Alaska but it's not a good area for horses, I have been looking at Kenai!
I heard the fish and could see that you did too...on the video. I do the same thing. One fish one cast. I do that all the time too. It's a well-rounded video of how to fish your location, what to use, and how to fish it. There's no doubt that you fish legally and ethically. Great Job!
Diogenes was knee deep in a stream washing vegetables. Coming up to him, Plato said, "My good Diogenes, if you knew how to pay court to kings, you wouldn't have to wash vegetables."
"And," replied Diogenes, "If you knew how to wash vegetables, you wouldn't have to pay court to kings

nice of you to give a fishing lesson but it looks like you're fishing in a spawning bed and really shouldnt be fishing there, dont let fish and gayme catch you there!
I know such a polite person as yourself, would never publicly accuse me of actually breaking the game laws of the great state of Alaska.
Though I am not accustomed to falling into any trap of relinquishing my favorite fishing spot, I would be willing to wager your assumptions incorrect for say 100 ounces silver bullion?
I could provide a notarized affidavit from a fish and game biologist that these are fair waters.
my bad, but that sure looks like a spawning bed but I guess they are all up and down the river, Im not saying its illegal, but does a guy of your skills need to be catching in a fish bowl, LOL
And I really do appreciate the fishing tips for the new comers and other people that should be fishing, keep'em coming!
I worked up at the "Great alaska" camp for a summer. I want to return to the Soldotna area to live.
It sux property is going up so much.
I spent a lot of time in Chanitna bay area too over by
Bear meadow" I heard one of the problems A.K. folks is having is rich folk are buying up alot of property and taking the best hunting areas (similar to whats happening in Montana) any truth to this?
If this guy is using 8lb test, he is WAY more patient a fisherman than I am. I use 15-20lb test for the same fish, and yes I, too live in Alaska, just not on the Kenai River. And yes, catching one on the first cast like this guy does is not uncommon, at least, where he's fishing.
Mannn 8lb..... you gotta know your drag and be a damn good fisherman to be usin a line like that. I'm insanely jealous that you live in Alaska. Hard work, pristine wildlife and land......this video is a tease.
Most people in Kenai just tend to not speak out, as in they might not like you, but they won't tell you, but thats small amounts of people, I'm from that town, born and raised, and everyone is friendly.
for me, it depends on what the area is like. I'll drop way down to maybe #8-10 line if there are no people and not many rocky snags around. When it's combat fishing or super snaggy water with rocks or mussels to hook up on, i'll go up to 30 or 40 pound braid so i can get the fish in and pull out of rocks. Generally, i'll fish #17 when there are lots of people.
I've never been to your beautiful state. Had a friend in Texas who owned land in Valdez (before the pipeline went in -- and sold when it looked like it wouldn't) who flew up there and invited me to go on several trips. Never could and always regretted it.
Valdez is still a beautiful place. There are still places where the oil spill shows itself but you won't see it unless you're looking for it. Every summer, when the fishing season starts, Valdez population probably triples or quadruples from tourists who stay there the entire summer. It's insanely popular. Go once and you're hooked, you'll know that the 2nd time you go because a lot of summer visitors do it every single year, travelling from every corner of the continental US to get there.
The Kenai Peninsula is very beautiful. I know, as I am a part-time resident and a friend of Ron's. This is an informative video on fishing the Kenai Peninsula. Good job, Ron.
nice video..im going to Kenai Peninsula this summer and i can't wait to go fishing

@QUEENBEACHA Good question about the horse country. Its awesome for riding.
A guy can go places, and do things on a horse that are only seen in the movies.
Have you seen my video moose hunting by draft horse?
The fact that the pasture is good only from June to Octobers a limiting factor, so a guy needs to figure out a hay solution.

@bigsammieking Bigsamieking there are only 680,000 in the whole state of Alaska.
It would take a bunch more folks moving up here than already have to take up all the best.

Most of the rivers have much more current than where he is fishing. Current requires heavier line. 8lb test works if you got no current.

Yeah, when I fish the Russian for reds I actually use 30lb line due to constant snagging under rocks then I'm expected to horse fish in.
