I feel like there was generally a higher skill level in the 80s and 90s than there is today. This also shows in the dunk contests. Now there isn't as much skill, just more powerful dunks.
Big ups for Pippen, like his career, in the shadow of MJ, but he got it done. MJ won two dunk comps from his FT line dunks, and he was inside the FT line, Pip comes out with his first dunk and did that, easy as... give him his credits even if MJ made him
hi @dunkers23, I'm working out to expand my vertical jump by following the exercise routine that is from 50-inch-vertical(dot)com - and thus far improved like 10 inches so far having said that Im still a little away from being able to jump high enough to dunk and hang on the rim. It is primarily just my first day of my 3rd week thus far, is there anything I'm missing? advices?
Kenny Smith was the most creative of all those guys that night. Robbery! The dunk contest lost some of its appeal after that was given to Wilkins for just throwing it threw the basket hard. No creativity.
dunkers23 I am just a normal 5'7 hispanic guy and I have the ability to jump high enough to dunk. Anybody can do it too, simply follow the right training program. I prefer the 1 at 50 inch vertical (dot) com but virtually any training plan is fine as long as they actually work which unfortunately many do not
ill to look at in super slow motion, the orginator of the full extended windmill, then VC came in and perfected it, which Chuck can't admit to out of the respect he has for Nique.
@gatman1995 Dwight was also a whole foot in front of the line as well. Pippen was listed at 6'7 for most of his career, than he mysteriously grew a inch in his 30's, but somehow this was back in 1990 and that commentator said he was 6'9, when he was listed at 6'7 at that time. I guess it's those long arms, and yeah Pippens dunk I would've gave a 9 despite him jumping the full 15 feet. It's because he wasn't that high off the ground like James White always is. As for Wilkins, same shit but its
dunkers23 nice video, reminds me of myself - ha. I'm five'seven and I can dunk. I followed the famous training that pro players including Kobe Ray Allen and Areans used. If you want more info about the program, check out - 50 inch vertical (dot) com

Wow Pippen is the only person to dunk from behind the line! I wanna see the other dunks from pip, holy shit im still amazed how pippen dunked from so far = D he should get more rep for the free throw line dunk then mj!
@33bullsfan But I'm not saying pippen wasn't good in that dunk I really wanted him to the winner in that contest not dominique wilkins. I'm also a fan of the bulls and pippen and of course jordan.
What the hell. Wilkins did the same freaking dunk like 3 times in a row and won? That Kenny Skywalker guy had better dunks.
And Pippen is actually the only one who actually took off from the freethrow line... that was clean! But Jordan's dunk still looked awesome because he looked like he was flying in the air and Jordan actually didn't have to extend his arms, he actually pulled back so he could have taken off further back and still dunked the thing.
#VIDEOPOSTERID# dude, I improved over 14 ins on my leap by finishing the training course over at 50 inch vertical (dot) com. now being being the shortest kid on court is the least thing I have to worry about in a game now, lol
dunkers23 I mean if I, have the ability to dunk, then anybody can. I m simply 5'7 geez! Simply just don t be lazy and follow a training program like this one 50inch vertical[dot]com, it'll raise your leaping ability and your first step in basketball.
Wilkins did a 360 ,2 Reverse Jams one in front and a Reverse from one side to the other that were Not shown. He is much more than a WindMill Master. One off the Glass that was a Miss like in 1988 but two hands.Back then you had 2 chances and your out,not 10 times like today...Wilkins Won easy.
@znerol22 james white is just retarded he'd be a better olympic long jumper than basketball player. My comment was on the nba dunk-offs overall. Jordan= most style.... Pippen= Cleanest and farthest.

if u look @ every FT dunk ever....pip jumped the furthest, only the front of his toe is on the line, long arms help alot but he still the closest to clearing the line, out of nba players
well scottie had like 3 inches advantage over jordan (height and reach) but jordan had more flair, stretch and floating effect. have you seen his 1987 attempt? as far as scottie's free throw dunk
Wilkins is and was a great dunker (I'm not saying otherwise). But, allow me to be frank when I say that he only ever had three dunks that he did over and over again (double-pump reverse, windmill and 360). I like Kenny Walker, who did great in 1989 before he repeated himself almost move by move here. But let's be honest and agree that Kenny Smith should've won it in 1990 for trying new things. The judges were being nostalgic when they threw their 10's at Dominique just because he "showed up".

@TheRedCrusadar how many time does dominique windmill dunk in a contest still be considered creative he always do it all the time! exactly! you cant just bring up jordan hes way more creative than most dunkers!
See that someone gave me a "poor comment." I'm just being honest. MJ had a 48" vert. Kobe's doesn't even crack 40, and I haven't seen Josh or Wade throw down like MJ.
standing at 6'6 he could get his chest above the rim, which he couldn't. so i think his vertical was probably at like 44 maybe 45, which is still nasty!
Dominique was robbed in 88. I mean the dunk where he threw it off the rim and caught it for a tomahawk dunk is still the shit.. That was his most creative dunk.
Yea they can, NBA players now can dunk better. Iguodloa, Kobe, Vince, T-Mac, D-Wade, LeBron, Dwight, Nate, Rudy Gay, Josh Smith, jason Richardson etc....They are all dunk machines!! As time goes by people become more athletic and stronger. It's just how it is.
I think Wilkins was the best dunker in 1980s. However, there is no creativity. If he has a little bit creativity, no present NBA dunkers except few sick guys like josh smith can beat him.
dominique was always about power dunking... just absolutely throwing it down with crazy power and leap. ive seen mostly windmill dunks from him though. nothing out of the ordinary for him.
Yeah, but compare it to Barrys or Howards lame attempt. Both of them were well inside the line. And Pippens toe is inside the line here as well (Jordans was as well. Everyone conviently forgets this.) Dr. J and James White are the only two I've ever seen that were actually behind the line. Jordans certainly had the most style though. Forgot about Drexler, but he was well inside the line as well.
jordan clearly jumped from behind the line in 1985(the first time he did it).so jordans execution was definitely better.plus jordan was almost 3inches shorter than pippen.
the first time jordan did the free throw line dunk in 1985 he clearly jumped from behind the line.the other times he didnt.but also you have to remember pippen was about 3 inches taller than jordan.
Possibly the worst dunk contest winner ever! Of his 5 dunks, 4 of them were damn near the same thing from different angles. Even if the dunk is nice as hell, it gets a little old if you do it every time.
Dominique Wilkins? Creative? Come on. He keeps doing windmills.

I think Wilkins was the best dunker in 1980s. However, there is no creativity. If he has a little bit creativity, no present NBA dunkers except few sick guys like josh smith can beat him.

OH Dominique, Dominique. Always recycling your dunks. Windmills and double pump jams
Generalisimo27 2 years ago 3
dominique was always about power dunking... just absolutely throwing it down with crazy power and leap. ive seen mostly windmill dunks from him though. nothing out of the ordinary for him.

how did scrappy kenny smith beat kenny walker, shawn kemp, and pippen!!

MJ did it in 1986 and looked so much better in the air...
oly681 2 years ago
Yeah, but compare it to Barrys or Howards lame attempt. Both of them were well inside the line. And Pippens toe is inside the line here as well (Jordans was as well. Everyone conviently forgets this.) Dr. J and James White are the only two I've ever seen that were actually behind the line. Jordans certainly had the most style though. Forgot about Drexler, but he was well inside the line as well.

pippen wasnt inside the line. Did it better than jordan
afonsoramos 2 years ago
You need a retinal transplant. His toe is a good 2 inches inside the line. As to whether his is greater in execution, thats entirely subjective.
crackattack85 2 years ago
jordan clearly jumped from behind the line in 1985(the first time he did it).so jordans execution was definitely better.plus jordan was almost 3inches shorter than pippen.
704CarolinaBlue704 2 years ago
to them its no so hard to do that dunk.
Even Superman did it :P
afonsoramos 2 years ago
the first time jordan did the free throw line dunk in 1985 he clearly jumped from behind the line.the other times he didnt.but also you have to remember pippen was about 3 inches taller than jordan.
704CarolinaBlue704 2 years ago
Pippens dunk also nearly comes up short..jordan would land somewhere behind the basket pippen lands underneath the rim
thebigpotplant7 2 years ago
haha pippen the only guy to ever dunk from BEHIND the free throw line

dayum walker should've won this

Wilkins only had 2 different dunks in this whole contest. Also, Pippen's second dunk was never shown, which was one of the best.
NaturalLife24 3 years ago
what was pips second dunk ??
kornywoods27000 3 years ago
he took off from the block and brought the ball down to his waist and did a reverse dunk on the opposite side of the rim. trust me, it was awesome.
NaturalLife24 3 years ago
Possibly the worst dunk contest winner ever! Of his 5 dunks, 4 of them were damn near the same thing from different angles. Even if the dunk is nice as hell, it gets a little old if you do it every time.

Magic's reaction at 2:47..sickkkk
louramix 3 years ago
These dunks will be lucky if they get a 5 in todays contest. Dominique is a legend but damn! dont you have anything else besides windmills
