Translucent Path is an improvisational composition by Layne Redmond and Tommy Be with different sections organized by rhythmic cues. After the cue to go to the double time section, the section after that is set at a slightly faster speed, so the piece works its way through increasing levels of speed. That's the intent. If you have good ears you can perceive the difference between rushing and intent. Neither Zohar nor Layne is known for rushing a tempo.
From Layne Redmond: Translucent Path is composition by myself and Tommy Be from our cd, Trance Union, voted Percussion cd of the year by Drum! Magazine in 2002 & 2003. I had just come in from Egypt where I had eaten something that made me very sick! It is a slippery slope to say the best frame drummer, but Zohar's technique is so beautiful, so clean, so perfectly uplifted in his sense of time. Beyond that he is the most supportive player you can imagine, a true joy to play with.
the Origins of Zohar and also this kind of music goes back to ancient Iran and Zoroastrianism after Islam ,Iranians limited the work of magic in to musics and....
separated from politics and much less than ancient era in general
Layne did a great job holding it down, while Zohar could really fly. I really enjoy this composition of hers. Impressive on her part to really hang with Zohar who's playing is way beyond technique. I could tell how slightly intimidated Layne was, ha ha. But she's a badass too.
Nothing against Zohar, who is one of the best, but Layne has been playing for decades now, and has toured with, studied with, and recorded with, Glen Velez. Velez is the best of the best.
I doubt that Layne was doing anything other than what she wanted to.
I am certain that both of these artists has the technique to fly. Happily, they also have the talent to simply play.
I put this on and started looking through some of the other titles when I realized that my breathing had slowed, tension draining and I was experiencing a wonderful state of peace...flowing with the rhythms. This is beautiful.
This is awesome! How cool that you guys could jam like that so easily and fluently....and how really cool that you can send it to me to see! Thank you.
