I can't believe you found one still in one piece. they were already rusting on the way over from Italy when new. a great shame, as it was a brilliant car

Back in the early '80's a group of young Volvo engineers from Sweden completely dismantled an Alfa Sud that had been traded in at a Volvo dealership in Oxford as they had never seen one before.Their conclusion was that it was a work of design genius but very poorly built. No surprises there then! I love them all the same though.
@kaferere It's funny that you mention this, as I started out driving an Alfasud, and now drive a Volvo 850 T5! I actually believe that there are designs flaws in the 850, and would love to go back to an Alfa. An interesting side note, is that both the Alfasud and Volvo 850, were designed by Porsche (something that I learnt after buying both cars). I have also owned two Porsches, and think that they have their bad points as well, but as they say, 'Once an Alfa driver, always an Alfa driver'!!!
@devo4g63 It's always strange when you realize that your personal taste has been consistent without being aware of it. I had no idea that Porsche designed the cars you mention but you must have subconsciously appreciated something common to them. In the same way, I can't claim to be a classical music fan but all the classical stuff I loved as a kid turned out to be written by Chopin! I had no idea at the time. Maybe you were Porsche in a previous life and wanted to revisit your cars!!! LOL.
@kaferere Maybe we have stumbled across the proof that car do indeed have a 'sole', something that many of us have know for a long time! LOL. I think that your summary is very in depth, and may also show that the law of attraction indeed exists, just as you were attracted by the mind set, and composing style of Chopin, I was and am attracted to the engineering brilliance that is Porsche? Something to think about, regards, Glen.
@devo4g63 There's no doubt about it, we've obviously discovered the secret of the universe, and to think it was hiding in the AlfaSud all this time! I'll see you when we pick up our Nobel peace prize. Cheers.
crikey, a UK plate 'sud still in one piece!!I always like these back in the '70s, a cut above the competition from a dynamic perspective. such a shame they were so rot prone otherwise they'd have been a world beater
mi spiace, la mia è dell'81 pertanto direi che è già la terza serie, quella con molte plastiche nere per nascondere la ruggine, tanto per essere più precisi.
A sweet car the old Sud. Please don't drive it on a salted road, and keep on top of any rust that breaks out. They are a great car, diminished only slightly by Soviet steel which has a disturbing habit of wanting to rust away & go back to the environment !!! Enjoy it.
There WOULD not be many of those cars left, especially with British registration plates!!! Russian steel has a LOT to blame for in what during the 1970s was otherwise a very exciting and advanced car...
cars just don,t sound this good any more.miss the cough and splutter of old alfa,s

Beautiful little car. My parents had one like this - 1975 'N' 1186cc Sud Ischia Green. Exhaust note is music to my ears!

This is the exact same sound my '75 Alfasud makes. Yup, time for a new exhaust!
