Ah! reference, reference, never ending scientific inquiry. No one will know what the criteria for forbiding a novel, article, or song. It may be just an impulsive decision of one unknown bureaucrat at a moment. But songs glorifying a fallen regimen (Manchurian empire), but not manchurian folk , may fit into the category.

I am Taiwan, born and raised in Taiwan until I came to the US to attend graduate school in 1989. I have not heard such a thing.

Those old Taiwanese songs were very popular. I can still sing them a Capella.

Prohibition is usually based on moral, religious, political, or economical considerations. When probition is based on cultural reason, then it is a form of genocide. We did not know this happeing amongist us then, because of our ignorance.

Whenever I hear these songs, I will recall how KMT repressed people of Taiwan and its culture. Our next generation won't understand these songs are real Taiwan culture, because they are fading away.

I don't think so. There are many factors which could contribute to culture anemia. Being Taiwanese, growing up in the country and bigger cities, I never felt that way.
