The final technique looks very similar to an Aikido shihonage. I do both Karate and Aikido and will be expected to do bunkai to kanku dai at my next grading so that is hugely useful. always trying to find where I can introduce my Aikido into various applications :)
for the application on the throw try to think more of the left arm (forearm to elbow) being an attack to the face not just a collar grab. I have seen many people do the application you are showing (i.e. the collar grab) but I think that misses the power and damage that can be caused with the arm attack in conjunction - or instantaneously before the throw. I like the second application with the arm grab -- nice discovery as this is usually explained as an upward block.
well thought out and very clever but in the heat of a fight with adrenalin pumping fine motor skills are the first thing that goes and we rely on simple movement
do i know u no didnt think so train more talk less maybe u ll learn something why resort to name calling sign of a small immature child kata and self defence are 1 and the same if taught and learnt properly if u cant get ur point across in a civilized manner be quite
Inspiring! I'm looking forward to see how sensei bunkai the rest of the kata, like upper block+knife hand strike then front kick then change direction+lower block:->

Your video should be named: '' Bunkai for Kanku Dai'', since ''Bunkai'' is the appropriate term... But the video itself is quite good.

nice bunkai, but you should show the full technique, the black belt who is demonstrating with you should be able to break fall..nice job though.
cheers

Thanks for sharing. Both of the throws you demonstrate look like legitimate uses of the movements in the kata.
Serious karate students seem happy to share information; that's a good thing.

you muppet. It's the bunkai for a kata, not a self-defence move.
