Stockings are often used by thieves, Burqas often by Muslims. Their usage is the difference and because of this difference each have very different connotations. Thus in the right context a head-stocking can be shocking, such as within a store without warning. This is despite how innocent the person might be and how good a reason he might have for a head-stocking.
Which is also why a burn victim wearing head bandages wouldn't get the shocking response a stocking would.

A rhetorical question can be "asking for a counter-argument". Not in the sense that the author is requesting an answer as a regular question; But rather in the sense that a rhetorical question such as zibzooster's gave his view, and that view was asking for (i.e. was open to) a counter-argument. Now the reason I used that specific phrasing is because of this double interpretation; It's wordplay. Perhaps in the future I should be simpler in my English to accommodate a wider audience. A rhetorical question does not "ask" for a response, the answer to a rhetorical question is so obvious to anyone that reads it that it does not need a response.

You must misunderstand. I stated that the author did not expect a reply, just as you point out. I also stated the phrase "asking for" means, in the colloquial sense, "deserving of/open to", for example "That unlocked house is asking for a robbery". In the colloquial sense a rhetorical question then can be asking for(deserving of/open to) a counterargument. Can you seen the double entendre (purposeful double meaning) now? If not just ignore it, no need to be pedantic for pedantry's sake.

@zibzooster Your ignorance is astounding, a burqa is part of a culture, a religion and a heritage. A stocking concealing a man's face seems quite obvious that he doesn't want to be seen. A burqa is merely a symbol of somebosy's religion. Many Muslim women would feel completely naked and embarrassed if they had to show their face in public. Also when have you ever heard of a muslim woman with a burqa robbing a bank, or using her face covering to commit an illegal activity.

How about instead of taken away a headress from innocent people, we take away weapons from the Americans who destroy innocent lives on a daily basis. That makes more sense to me.

@bonzerrulz its actually not though, the koran (muslim holy book) just states one should dress modestly. Modesty doesnt mean covering your entire body and identity posing a security risk to many.

@bonzerrulz i dont think u understand my arguement, i have nothing against headscarves where the entire face is clearly visible and where normal modest clothes are worn underneath. what i am against is the full body "cloaks" that they wear and the head coverings where only a small eyeslit is visible. Im not rascist, im just concerned about security in our society and i think the way people brush off the muslim hijab/burqa because its a religious garment is ignorant.
