  • 'I like to see a man with a fast backswing, a caddy yard grip & a pocket full of money', that's classic Snead! Love it.

  • Thanks coach. I will always listen to you!

  • @dschultz6072, I agree with you 100% , do what works for you. However, Mr. Snead says to keep moving the ball back as you move towards the wedge and he says open the stance. Here is the potential problem, when you open or close stances it changes your ball position. Telling someone to move the ball back and open his stance moves the ball so far back in the stance, most players will have trouble getting the ball in the air and lots of fat shots. People do this in bunkers and fail terribly.

  • It's great to listen to Mr Snead talk, but Mr. Hogan and Mr. Nicklaus disagree with this thought process. They both tried to play the ball in the exact same spot, Mr Hogans idea of ball position makes the most sense. Not to discredit Mr. Snead, but this was a very old old school of thought, not used much today.

  • @patkrebsgolf nobody has ever discounted this method though based on anything other than personal preference. Maybe Jack's big forward drive of his legs was a necessity to reach the ball because he had it positioned so far forward? You'll never know unless you try. The beauty of golf is you do what works for you. The idea Sam uses is the swing bottoms out directly under his sternum, making the angle of attack steeper for anything right of that, and shallower and even upward to the left heel

  • sam or jack which one do you listen to? tricky

  • I agree with emncaity, in Sneads autobiography (the education of a golfer-uk title)he shows an impressive understanding of the swing & how to help the novice

  • so cool listening to these guys talk, i like the way they all make it sound so easy. Ya never hear these older generation guys talking so analytically about the swing, just line it up and catch the ball before the dirt.

  • Not that many people anymore remember that Snead was also a great teacher of the game. I'd sure sooner spend a week with him than with many of the gurus working the game these days. Thanks for posting this!

  • is there any more?
