  • The post by urdedmete is the original! Check it out it lasts!!

  • IF THERES A ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN, THEY HAVE ONE HECK OF A BAND!

  • RIP Mike Botts James Griffin Dan Fogelberg Dan Seals John Denver Jim Croce

  • his great love continued until his death with mikki jamison . if jimmy was in LA they got together and she was the real great love of his life ,, most of his songs were written about her ..

  • the song Just Say When was written for Mikki jamison who was jimmys first wife and his great love

  • Dear K1fjh: Thanks for your kind words, and telling me Larry K is also departed from this earth! I hope all of them had a good relationship with God and are in Heaven! I really have considered Bread one of the finest bands ever-at least for me! I miss them, and the world is a little colder and sadder without them! I hope they are smiling down upon us in heaven! Love to all, BobbyK

  • James Griffin was a great musician with a great voice, and look at how great he still sounded in 2001! We lost one great musician! I had always hoped to see Bread live one day when they united in the 80's for a tour but I was so busy with life, etc, that I didn't know about it! Wow, to think, Mike Botts and James Griffin are both gone! The world is a little less a great place without both of them! Love and Peace, BobbyK

  • @bobby7771117 Agree with all points! Unfortunately, Larry is also gone. Life is short and fragile!

  • @bobby7771117 larry knetchel recently passed away last yr (aug 2010) too so sad gosh i miss theyre music thank god for you tube!!

  • just loved his music as well as bread. had a place in my heart and youth.

  • Bread was at its best when Jimmy was featured equally with David Gates. He really added that great guitar sound and fantastic soulful voice.

  • Does anyone know where I can get a studio version of James Griffin singing It don't matter to me? Thanks

  • Love this. Thanks! I'm writing a novel that takes place in the 70's and this music inspires me very much.

  • Beautiful.

  • Although David Gates is excellent I always preferred Jimmy's voice, he had more range and was more expressive.

  • I like David Gates better, but both of them harmonize beautifully in the chorus of '71 version

  • @t8870 where can i get studio version of james griffin singing it don't matter to me

  • @gregdebbie There isn't one. James Griffin usually sang back up, you can hear him on just about all of Breads recorded songs

  • @t8870 James Griffin sang lead on half of the songs on all the Bread albums. David sang most of the classic hits. James sang lead on some great songs also. Songs such as "Look What You've Done ","Been Too Long on the Road";"Let Your Love Go", "Truckin ", "Down on My Knees" check them out :)

  • @gregdebbie Go to Amazon.com or emusic.com type in Former Members Of Bread , the name of the Compilation is Let Your Love Go. You can download 14 studio Bread songs James Griffin re-recorded . Don't be decieved by the cover no David Gates . Jimmy is singing lead on all the songs including "It Don't Matter To Me". Jimmy is missed but at least he left us all his great music.

  • They don't make songs like Bread's anymore these days. Their songs are timeless. Great songs to live by. Thank you, Bread.

  • It's 5 years today that Jimmy left us, but to me, he is still very much here, through his amazing music and his beautiful spirit that touched so many of us who had the pleasure of knowing him or meeting him.

Today I've been listening to all his solo LPs, his pre-bread singles, all his contributions to bread, Griffin & Sylvester, Remingtons, Soft Rock Cafe.

I lit a candle this morning, and it's still burning brightly. May our collective love for him light his way. Much love to you always, Jimmy.

  • It is hard to believe that much time has passed.

  • I played the bars for a while. This song was always on our set list. I didn't know that James had passed. Thank you for posting.

  • Thanks for the comment!

  • DIDN'T david wrote most of their songs?

  • No, they wrote each LP 50/50.

  • Incredible how Jimmy didnt share vocals with David Gates as much as he deserved to, what a revelation to hear the solo beauty of this dear departed soul, time is always on your side... RIP

  • Clearly he was a brilliant singer and song writer

  • @mkcwebmaster Yes, he was. He won an Academy Award for writing "For All We Know" with Fred Karlin and Robb Royer.

  • Simply great!

  • I hadn't thought of james griffin in years, thanks for putting this up.

  • I'm glad you found him again - check out the others posted here. Thanks.

  • James had such talent. He does a great job doing David Gates's part here. I always loved the leads that he would sing on the albums. Never enough, for my taste. Thanks for this wonderful post.

  • Yep - the original idea was for David and James to alternate singles - it never happened and Jimmy was short-changed, as were we all. Too bad because there was room enough for both of their voices.

  • It was never up to Jimmy or David.

    It was decided by Elektra.

  • No diasagreement here - Jimmy was shortchanged either way.

  • I never knew or realised that. At least, not fully. I thought that, as producer and associate producer of their own albums, as well as being the principle singers and songwriters in the band, that they themselves would decide who should sing what, or what parts of the songs. I didn't realise that Elektra had such control in that respect. I agree with you Fran - we were all shortchanged because of this. There are many songs that I could so easily hear Jimmy singing, if only he'd been 'allowed.'

  • Lovely, thanks.

  • Yes - he did a great job on this - he could still hit the high notes!!

  • Such a fantastic song, and James as always, delivers with conviction. thanks for posting this.

  • Can't argue with you - I wish I had taped all three shows in their entirety, but I also wanted to enjoy the shows live as well! :)

Thanks for posting the comment and watch for a bunch more over the next few weeks, including a few by his son Jamey.
