There are many active ingredients in cannabis, and when you burn it you create a thousand more, including many harmful and cancerous chemicals, and it is particularly harmful because one often smokes it unfiltered and it enters the respiratory system. Vaporising/cooking it etc. reduces many of these harms, but it can still be harmful to certain people. I agree cannabis is basically 99% safe, but don't be overzealous saying "It's a plant, it can't be that bad".

I think if both smokers and non-smokers got behind this issue the laws will change. I do not think quitting cannabis will have a significant effect. In fact it might backfire. The funny thing about the drug warriors is that it does not matter if they are winning or losing their budgets will increase. If drug use goes down then we are doing something right give us more money, if the opposite happens we need more money to tackle the issue...circular logic.
