It's done with aircraft wire, a crane, several shots where they move the crane, and paid spectators.

Yes. Magicians and illusionists get viewers. Viewers equal money. Notice that trick is NEVER performed live, only on TV. That's because the whole thing requires several hours as they move him around, readjust the crane, move him around, and keep doing it, keeping the crane out of view.

Normally people would say "bullshit!" to this on TV, that's why they have the "live" spectators, who are actually paid.

Search for the "masked magician", he does this trick, and shows how it's done.

Like I said, money. You do a TV special, and show tricks like these. This will get a ton of viewers. The special will have commercials, commercials equal profits for the network. And that's not even counting if they do a DVD release, and make money that way.

When it comes to the live shows, which obviously this trick couldn't be performed for, you are talking hundreds of dollars per ticket in the front rows. They will go to elaborate expense for stuff like that.

Well, it's entertainment. Lots of people go in knowing it's fake, but like to guess how it's done. Or they want to see if the magician can get something over on them.

Look at it like wrestling. WWF and such are completely fake and scripted. Sure, the wrestlers have to be in top shape to survive the stunts, but not all of the stunts are as real as they look. And hopefully some of the audience knows it's fake, but they still pay to see it.
