This is one of my favorite movies of all time. In my opinion, it didn't get anywhere near enough attention. I loved the characters, the character development, and the way they show Beowulf as a hero, but more than that- he was a man who was, in his own words, "fallible and flawed."

It captures the old epic in a new way- far better and greater than any Sci-Fi original movie ever could!

People say the word "epic" all the time, without realizing the gravity of the word... but Beowulf IS epic!

The only reason Achilles died was because the arrow that hit him in his heel was poisoned. If it hadn't been poisoned he wouldn't have died. His heel is the one place that is still mortal so if he had been shot by a regular arrow he could have just bandaged it or whatever. It's not like if you hit him there a bunch of times he will die.

Even in legend Beowulf was just a man with great strength (a nordic/germanic thing). He could be killed like any other man, he just never was till he met a dragon. Achilles however was immortal (excluding the heel) which obviously no one but his mother knew about. He couldn't be pierced or brought to fatigue. Even Hector ran away from him.

Achilles > Beowulf.
