A profound testament to the human heart. A direct pointing to the eternal nature of the heart. Songs and statements about the human heart such as this one say what mystics and prophets have been alluding to for centuries, the parting is the necessary passing of such sweet sorrow. lol.
this song just goes to show us what we had. a great folk singer a great performer and above all of this a man that was one of us god bless you liam and thanks. you will never be out of our thoughts or our hearts
I was looking for this tune cos I heard it on the radio 2 or 3 weeks ago... I am of Ireland and have loved Liam Clancy's voice for a long long time, it's so cool to find this, I'll have to check out a lot more of Tom Paxton...
Fantastic version , Tom is due to tour the UK again later this year , dont miss this ledgend on what could behis lasttour , november cant come soon enough.
Thank you so much for sharing this song & video. I've loved Tom's music since first hearing it in 1968. The audience joining in and the ambiance is wonderful. Hello to all from the Left coast of North America!
saw Tom at Birmingham town hall when I was younger great modest man.Its probably 40 years ago now what happened to that time?Young peaople get out there and follow your dreams don't wait for tommorrow I wished I'd had the bravery to do it.
@stannyjoe I also saw Tom a few times at B'ham Town Hall but it was in the early 70's as I moved to Aust 1976. I believe he came nearly every year . Great concerts. Saw Liam at the Odeon with the Clancy's a few years before that too! Also at Sydney Town Hall, early 80's with Tommy Makem. Great memories!
@Sportsmaven i agree the music of my generation is of a far lesser standard, a voice in the modern market is the least important thing, it is all just computeer beats to make people bounce
Just read up on the performing protagonists. One of them had weathered the years better than the other, at the time of this video-clip. Great respect to both.

grey cap on the left is an elderly embarrassment. Main singer puts up a good job: sings and plays. Grey cap swigs beer bottle and occasionally harmonises, without ever his hands and his guitar meeting.
Wonderful main tune. Splendid and fearsome delivery. Grey-cap disgraced himself. Last thing on his bottled mind. Sic transit.
Just simply beautiful! Wish I had been in the audience to see this incredible performance! A song I have loved for many years. Great great performance by Tom & Liam!
I have been playing this song when I was a busker, it was one of my favorites to play! Thank you to all those who played the song along with me, just for the fun of it!

I love the spontaneous audience joining. The same happened in Montreal a few years back when Tom spent an evening here.

@phil31047 I saw Tom too at B/ham Town Hall. I moved to the West Midlands in 1977 so it must have been late 70's early 80's.

@redoler You seem to show a lot of respect for one, but none for the other. Rather odd comments altogether. Not many saints around.
