you know, i wonder who we have to talk to to get a special edition official DVD release of this? lord knows people are bound to want to know all they can about this film and I'm sure whatever was cut can be used as DVD extras.
Thanks for posting this!! I love Spokies, it is so bad but yet almost so good. Gonna re-watch it now I think... Anyway check out my channel for loads of horror reviews and stuff!
I wonder why everytime someone posts the entire Spookies movie, it get's pulled off the Net real fast? Grant it, it's not the best but it's one of those "so bad, it's good in an odd kinda way" flicks!
I know it was orginally called "Twisted Souls" but it got fudged up in post-production real bad. I think TS should get a re-make, made the way it should have been done and with better FX! Spookies ended up being a parody of itself! A shame, really!
Even if the idiot who funded the movie didn't turn it into a total mess, I don't see how it could've been that much better. You would've just had a pretty good monster movie. But the way it is now, you have one of the all-time "so bad it's good" masterpieces.
Yeah, perhapes so but we're long of due for a decent creature feature with a fair amount of erotic peril. A little bit of nudity helps the schlockiness go down a bit better! Ever see "Creautres from the Abyss" a.k.a. "Plankton", a close contender to Spookies IMO!
Well, I do like the monsters that are on display in this version and there may have very well been more badass monsters left behind in whatever got chopped, that's not what I was referring to. The actors are a bunch of no-name cheesedicks getting picked off by monsters. That's pretty standard '80s fare. More monsters=definitely better. Same slew of cheesedicks, though so I don't know how much better it possibly could've been. What was cut? A Charles Bronson cameo as a paranormal bounty hunter?
Frankly, much was cut - other actors, other horror scenes, and more. Scenes have been reshuffled; discarded takes used in place of better takes (performance and tech wise); plot elements missing; character development, etc. A lot is gone - 45 minutes plus is missing. The spider scene that starts this seqment is missing about 2 minutes or more - some of the shots have been reshuffled, portions of shots cut haphazardly destroying continuity, eye lines, screen direction, etc. A real mess.
I wondered that as well. I did a Google search on her and even asked Peter Iasillo, no one knows what became of her! She is a complete unknown and was never seen after her part in Spookies.
The last time I saw Soo Paek was in the late 80's/early 90's. She was still living in NYC, but I don't think she has done other films (but I could be wrong - don't put your complete trust in IMDB however).
Thanks for the tip. I always thought IMDB was spot on, guess not and interesting how you know Soo Peak. A number of people who have seen this classic B-grade favorite have wondered about her.
HI! Pete Iasillo here. I played Rich and I'm the guy in the spider web. BEST SCENE IN THE WHOLE MOVIE!!Visit me on Myspace at NYActor. Thanks for posting!
Campy as hell! This flick needed more scantily clad women in it plus the slimy monsters and then it would have been remembered better. I think a re-make is in order with some Playboy Playmates to boots sales!! Decent idea anyway.....
Spookies is actually 2 unfinished films edited together. The whole bit dealing with all the people in the house and zombies, etc. was shot in 1983 and planned to be released as Twisted Souls. More footage was shot later (mainly the dr evil lookalike part with his bride)
Twisted Souls was shot in late 1984. It finished filming and was in post production being edited until early 1985. The new scenes (not from another unfinished film, but made purely to cut into TS for no good reason) were shot later in 1985 and that's when the zombie scenes were filmed. The original TS contained the scenes with the people who arrive in the cars, and the related scenes and monsters: ouija board girl-monster, snake demons, grim reaper, muck men, spider woman, hallway demon.
Lol!

Plankton; huh? I just added it to my Netflix queue. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.

You're welcome! The sex scene in Plankton has yet to be rivaled in any horror/monster movie. One word, freaky!(o.o)

Well, you don't know what's missing, which is why you can't see how it could have been (and was) better. There's a ton of stuff that's cut.

The actor who played the part of the evil old guy was very creepy. I'm amazed this was his only feature! He reminds me of The Tall Man. o_0

Well, considering that I directed her in those scenes, it's not so surprizing that I should know her:)
