  • Great voice, but not her best performance ever. Unfortunately, she also fluffs the words, singing 'zaminayus' instead of 'zanimayus' in the second-last line, and pronouncing quite a few zh's as z's. She is much better in the opera version at the Met.

  • I heard her sing this role at Tanglewood this year. She can mother my child any time she wants!

  • More than ten years ago, she tended to be willing to sing

belcanto repertoires. In fact, I heard her voice with the

cd "Armida" live recorded at Pesaro Rossini Festival. And

then she recorded some albums of famous arias by Bellini,

Donizetti and Rossini. Now that I hear her sing the heroines of Russian operas,

however, I cannot but think that these roles are much more

suitable for her. A pity that there should not be so many

    roles in this domain.

  • Did anybody in this audience see on TV the St. Petersburgh 300th Anniversary Gala where Fleming sang this aria in front of many world heads of state, at the Mariinsky (ex-Kirov)?

It's like the earth swallowed it. No recordings to be found, no comments anywhere, yet, it was such a memorable evening for posterity. Go figure.

  • Thank goodness that she slowed it down and showcased her gorgeous in the second part of the aria. She may now be the best. Her tonal collorations are exquisite and unique.Bravo.

  • This is superb singing & acting - the sudden end cut-off of the clip is bad taste.

  • This is one of the best performances by Renee I have seen. Her voice seems to get better with age, just amazing!! I really hope they bring this out on DVD. I've just done a performance of Eugene Onegin and I'm now completely in love with this opera.

  • I'm also a big fan of Eugene Onegin, but I also love her in Le Nozze di Figaro, when she plays Countess. You can see the whole second act, if I'm not mistaken, here on Youtube!! Her voice was really good back then. Not so much comfortable with her high notes as she is now, but nonetheless.. it's frikken Renee Fleming. It's amazing!

  • She is amazing,I love the way she performs, and her voice it's unique...just wonderful.

  • Do you suppose that if we all bombarded the Met with e-mails, they might put the production out on a dvd? There seems to be a 10 year lag between performance and dvd. I don't think I can wait that long and stay sane. By the way, the encore performance was just as crowded as the "live" matinee. I enjoyed it all over again and if they were going to repeat it again tomorrow, I'd go back a 3rd time.

  • She was so amazing in this production, so innocent yet so sensual. She can really capture the nuance of a character. This scene is so much more incredible on stage with her white dress against the night sky... god it was so beautiful.

  • Having seen the first High Definition performance in February, I'm definitely going back for the encore performance in April(the 7th).

  • I will never see a better, more dramatically - and beautifully sung - performance of the Letter Scene than this. Absolute perfection.

  • Now I'm really confused. In this version she IS left-handed, but when I saw her Met performance at the theater, she was right-handed. However, it's the singing everytime and that haunting horn.

  • she is left-handed but she and the director decided that she needed to be right handed for the Met production. She said that to us at the backstage.

  • love it

  • God i love neenee! She's so awesome .. hey she's left handed .. i'm left handed ..she's a lyric .. i'm a lyric .. oh the possibilities!! hahaha

  • LOVE YOU RENEE! You're such a Goddess of opera.

  • This is one of the performances that impressed me most - I am totaly blown away EVERY TIME I watch this!

What a fabulous performance - orchestra, Renee's voice in top form, glorious - everything so expressive and wonderful!

    Bravo!!

  • Jumpdafence, she is doing this opera at the Met next year (February) Let me know if you need more details...

  • Eugène Onéguine is the first opera that I saw! Souvenirs, souvenirs!

  • I must see this opera.

  • I didn't know that she was left-handed.

  • That was frikking amazing.

  • This really is wonderful, so honest and human, and that voice is just radiant. Renee, you're my idol!

Thanks for posting it, it really made my day.
