  • My nails never grow so this is a good way to start Thank U :)

  • Thank you. I appreciate ur straight to the point video on wraps!!!

  • Im never gonna dothis but i still like watching it ! :)

  • And why have i never heard of these before? lol they are genius!

  • I was wondering how you got your nails soo long they are gorgeous!!!!!!!!

  • @halithompson1993 I keep my nails moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil & I also take a biotin supplement – check out my Nail Maintenance vid in the Tips & Trick playlist for my full routine. I do occasionally get a tear or break but you can check out my tutorial on silk wrap patching for how I save those nails =) I do "Naked Nails" posts on my blog every month or so where I talk more about like all the specific products I'm currently using.

  • what's a silk patch?

  • @amonka4xx it holds the nail together if you have a tear or break so it can grow out =)

  • 4:26 it's magic

  • ...I've got peeling nails... it's awkward (lil' me can't spell today), because my nails gets all ugly. D:

  • @RukiahTaicho If I get them to not peel, the white edge on my nail is like 2-3 millimeters. I should get these for my mums nails, they ALWAYS break, so at least three of her nails is like a third of the normal length (of course, I mean the white edge) and it's SUPER HARD for me to do her french tips. RRGH.

  • I don't know if you know the answer to this but I'm just going to ask. I have very fragile nails and they break all the time, as a consequece the "u" shape at the tip of my nails was damaged, what I mean is that the skin that is attached to the tip of the nail separated from it. Do you know how to fix it? Thanks!

  • @cosmicgirlg92 I don't know any solution other than just to let it heal, it can take a long time but eventually they should get better =)

  • @GiseleT21 remover with acetone will grandually wear away the patch, it should still last through several manicures =) to remove them I use 100% actone

  • OMG!! This helped me so much!!! My pinky nail split so I headed to down to Sally and got the silk wraps but they were out of the resin at 3 different locations so I got the brush on glue and I watched your tutorial step by step as I repaired my nail and it worked BEAUTIFULLY!!! Thank you so much!!

  • how long should we leave it on??

  • @DarkDreamer92 as long as it lasts & needs replacing or until the crack grows out =)

  • How about working it off with a UV gel? Would the silk still hold under the uv lamp?

  • @MissPersia8 I don't think it would be a problem, & would probably hold longer =)

  • Is there a way I can get my nails to grow straight and strong like yours?? thanx!! ;-)

  • @FashionistaLuvsNY I try to keep my nails moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil & I also take a biotin supplement – you can check out my Nail Maintenance vid in the Tips & Trick playlist for my full routine. I do occasionally get a tear or break but you can check out my tutorial on silk wrap patching for how I save those nails =) I do "Naked Nails" posts on my blog every month or so where I talk more about like all the specific products I'm currently using.

  • @SimpleLittlePleasures then if I'm using the teabag method should I put the clear nail polish first and put the tea bag on so it sticks on the nail?

  • @kbbles I think that sounds logical - but I've never used just a tea bag. the silk wraps have adhesive on one side =)

  • I like the nail length

  • Does this work with clear nail polish as a substitute for the glue?

  • @kbbles it won't hold up as well to polish remover but I think so =)

  • Thank you for making this video! My nails are the longest they have ever been and I cracked one a few days ago. I was so sad, until I remembered this video. I went to Sally Beauty today and got the same silk patches and resin you used. Just finished putting it on. It was so easy and feels so strong! I'm so happy to be able save my nail. Thank you!

  • Hey Colette!!! thanks for the video, it was really helpful, =). i just have a question. everyday, i apply a nail oil. i just wanted to know, is it healthy for me to apply it EVERYDAY? and how do you get your nails so long? also, i live in vancouver. there isnt a sally's near by. or a good nail supply store. is there any onther nail store that you think is good other than sally's?

  • @dena123abc I think nail oil is fine to apply as often as you want =) You can check out my nail maintenance vid for my full routine, I make sure to moisturize a lot & also take a biotin supplement. I think you can order from Sallys online, but if you're not comfortable doing that maybe there is an ulta in your area?

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues Thanks Colette! =P

  • I just realized your name on Youtube is simplelittle PEASUES not pleasures !(:

  • A lot of people accuse me of having fake nails and try to take off my nails -.-

  • My nails don't curve when they get long. o_o If mine grow longer, they'll stick straight out. xD

  • When you buff the silk patch, aren't you removing most of the silk patch?

  • @xthexcolorxredx no - you don't want to buff a lot, just enough to smooth it down =)

  • Do you have to reapply the patch every time you repaint? I paint my nails several times a week and its really annoying to replace my tissue patches every time.

  • @debmo79 no, the gel will last through several manicures - I think the longest I've gone is about a month but usually every week or 2 I change them & I do my nails several time a week =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues Oooohh yay! Thanks!

  • Where can you purchase a silk patching kit thingy? and the gel resin?

  • @DontTalkIfYouSpeak I get mine at Sallys =)

  • wow your nails look so healthy! how are they soo thick? even without nailpolish strenngthener! thats amazing how do you do it and how do you keep them from breaking all the time?

  • @naomiLynneTV I try to keep my nails moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil & I also take a biotin supplement – you can check out my Nail Maintenance vid in the Tips & Trick playlist for my full routine. I do occasionally get a tear or break but you can see in this vid how I save those nails =) I do "Naked Nails" posts on my blog every month or so where I talk more about like all the specific products I'm currently using.

  • your nails are long, i love it! and they have a slight yellow hue.... is that from cooking? are you a cooker? wow you have amazing nails and you cook! Im in school and you would be lucky to see my nails grow past my finger tips. = (

  • @truefacts101 I do love to cook, but the staining is mostly from wearing dark colors, even with a base coat they leave thier mark over time =)

  • how do u remove it? just with polish remover?

  • @brokenoverdose normal remover will work, pure acetone will work faster =)

  • I read the blog you wrote where you mentioned having 7 silk patches on and you had pictures of broken and repaired nails. You mentioned "curves" in your nails and would like to know what "curves" are. Thank you.

  • @newloveforme it's when a nail seems to grow a bit to the side, or if one of the side grows more down than the other - I usually try to minimize it with creative filing but you can see that mine are not perfectly straight in some pics =)

  • So does that basically seal the tear?

  • @Monkeytoes9816 yes =)

  • wow I never knew about the silk patches. My nails tears all the time. I can't wait to get some

  • Hey, so i've got a tear in my nail but it's below where the white part of the nail starts and it really hurts.. i live in Australia, so i have no idea what the heck "Sally's" or "Wallmart" is.. do you think i could pick these up from a supermarket or a chemist? or should i look somewhere else? If you can't help it's cool.. i'll just have to have a look around. (: thanks

  • @emm1861 I'm not sure if they'd be available in normal kind of store, it is kind of more of a specialty nail product that just plain polish. If you have some kind of local beauty supply I would start there, but in the even you can't find these kind of products, you can do the same technique with just a little piece of tea bag & clear polish =)

  • what does a silk patch do to help the nail?

  • @sunnishine554 it hold a tear together so that it doesn't continue to break =)

  • Thanks for this great tutorial Colette, I don't know if I am going to do this yet on my mini-tear on my index finger or not, but I am thinking about it. I used to be a nail tech and did it using nail glue but I think the gel is better all around. I just don't know if I want to do this or not, do you feel it is damaging to the natural nail or weakens them? I LOVED all the pics on your blog on this subject, so I am tempted to give it a go. Thanks again!

  • @ThePamster I really don't think it harms the natural nail - just be sure when you remove it, soak it off with remover & don't try to just peel or pick it off - if you do that I can see it being damaging or taking off parts of your nail with it =) At this point I have been using patches for about 2 years when I get tears, and have not noticed any ill effects.

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues I am doing it then, I can't see losing so much nail when a patch can hold it over until the tear at least grows out. Do you find that now after taking the Biotin like you have been that your nails tear like this much less? I started three weeks ago taking 3000 mcg of biotin to see if it would make me break out and it hasn't, and I do think my nails are stronger. I just hope this tearing stops or at least happens much less frequently. Thanks Colette! :D

  • @ThePamster the biotin definitly helps. Sometime I will do something clutzy & expect to have broken nail & everything is fine. I still manage to get tears on sort of a regular basis, but not as bad as before, or sometimes only a tear where before I would have had a full break. I love it for peeling also, my nails don't peel at all any more =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues Well I did it and it wasn't too bad, I am wearing Flying Dragon over it to hide the imperfections since I used the patch over the entire nail, I was worried it would tear on the other side, but it seems like it's going to hold up good. I really appreciate you making this video, it helped me a lot Colette! Thanks again!

  • I never knew how the silk stuff worked, thanks for showing!

  • I am a new girl at Sally's, and this (and your other) videos have helped me a lot! I not only have more to talk about with customers, but now when they come in with chipped and damaged nails, I can help them out and suggest each of the products I saw you use to them. Thanks so much <3

  • Indeed how do you get you'r nails so long?! And healthy and thick looking!?

  • @2bluenblonde I try to keep my nails moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil & I also take a biotin supplement – you can check out my Nail Maintenance vid for my full routine. I do occasionally get a tear or break but you can check out my tutorial on silk wrap patching for how I save those nails =) I do "Naked Nails" posts on my blog every month or so where I talk more about like all the specific products I'm currently using.

  • veryy helpful! Thankyou! :)

  • @kt1997ful it's like a reinforcement for you nail, so the entire tip doesn't break off if you get a small tear =)

  • Hello, very nice video and lots of information. But how do you maintain silk?Do you place new small pieces of silk on the new nail? Do you have to completely remove it after some time? Does the resin/glue wear off on the silk and has to be replaced? I am sorry for the too many questions, i'm so new to that and i might have just found my salvation, i love long nails, but i have 3 kids and can;t keep them long enough...

  • @LNETSA you do have to remove it eventually - even if you reinforce it with more resin as it wears away, I usually change mine every few weeks. Occassional I will even get a tear despite having the silk. You may be able to wear them longer if you don't change your polish very often. Also, they will last longer if you use non-acetone remover for you polish, but I don't like that kind =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues Thank you so much. Just one more thing; what do you do as the nail grows, for example 2 weeks after you place it? place small pieces of silk on the new nail?

  • @LNETSA I don't cover my whole nail with the patch - just the part that's torn or damaged =) So it doesn't really make a difference as it grows out.

  • I went and purchased all the supplies to follow along. My nails are peeling, so I put it all over the nail. Can I do multiple layers of the silk to make my nails thicker?

  • @ANobleBeauty I wouldn't recommend more than one layer of silk - although it does make your nail thicker, it can also make it too brittle =)

  • This is an amazing video! Thank you so much!

  • Thanks for sharing your technique! I used to do repairs with the tea bag technique, and though it was working, I had to do it ever time I changed my manicure. A Sally's just opened up in town (literally just opened on Monday), and I went to get the silk patches and some gel resin, and my 4 nails that I have to repair seem stronger than with the tea bag.

  • you sound like misschievoius

  • Does the silk wrap ever come off or does it just stay on forever

  • @sabrinapal1 it comes off gradually with polish remover, quickly with 100% acetone, or eventually I think would just will wear off if you keep it on long enough =)

  • is this the same as a silk wrap?

  • @RootsRunDeeep pretty much, yes =) I think wraps normally go over the whole nail though, to strengthen it, rather than just over a break or tear

  • I wish I had watched this vid before my nail broke off :-(

  • Hello! I was just watching your video because I have never used a silk patch before and I noticed that one of your fingers has a dark streak in it and I don't want to worry you but you should see a doctor for this if you have not already. This is called Melanonychia. It could be absolutely nothing at all, or it could be a fungal infection, or it may be a sign of Subungual Melanoma.

  • Subungual Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that develops under the fingernails and toenails. It is rare but most common in darker skinned people. It probably is nothing but it is always better to have it checked out. I hope all is well and may God bless you!

  • @mrs79jones I will for sure have my Dr take a look next time I am there - I have never heard of melanonychia before, but I have been keeping an eye on the streak - kind of like any weird moles or freckles that pop up - but I actually have several on my toenails also. Thanks for giving me a heads up & for your concern =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues Your very welcome! I hope everything turns out alright for you. Just don't worry yourself to much about it. I know that is easier said than done but I really did not mean to worry you. I just wanted to let you know to have it checked out because most people have not heard of this and would not even think to have it checked out. Take care and I will say a prayer of health for you!

  • what are silk patches for anyway? : /

  • @selenajackson5 they help support the nail to grow out a tear or break =)

  • wow several times a week is alot...i do mine once a week...but to me it gets borin by the 3 day lol

  • u do ur nails several times a week??? wow ppl wudnt get a chance to see each design lol i do my once a week

  • @chickenlikingood If anyone misses a manicure, I always just tell them they can check it out on my blog =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues lol no i idnt mean in vlogs i just meant everyday...liek in work or scool or on the road lol ....cnt really explain...do u understand?

  • @chickenlikingood I see LOL - yes, I have several co-workers who expect me to stop by their desk on a daily basis for them to check out me designs =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues lol cool. no prob then i love doin my nails to but i dont have the time..and im not as talented with my nails as u are :(

  • I finally have nice nails and my thumb nail broke almost half way off, so i came across this video and $10 and 30 min. later, I have my nail back. A BIG THANX. I never even heard of this before.

  • Awesome video. I saw this a while ago but just tried it today. I have tried the teabag method but it worked for about an hour before breaking again. I used regular brush on nail glue, not the stuff you used, and it came out great. Thanks so much!

  • how do u keep ur nails in such nice shape cuz my nails always chip off or get hangnails or i bite them of will u show a video on how to stop biting ur nails? and also will u make a vid on how u maintain length nd shape? plzzzzzzzzzzz! i luv u bye!

  • @PaviYapper Hmm, I've never been a nail biter so I don't really have any tips to stop from biting - but I do have a nail maintenance video, it is under my Tips & Tricks Playlist =)

  • did not even know this exsitied i must buy it!

  • hahah your so funny, uhh the nail buffing, uhh thing ahah!

  • Thank you so much for this video! I bought the products about a week ago and just the other day my thumb nail broke. Normally I would've had to clip it and start over (which would've been devastating since my nails have been growing so well.) Thank you thank you thank you!! :)

  • I never would have known about this if you hadn't of posted this video. Now I know I can maintain the length of my nails if I have a break.

  • how about luke warm water?

  • @christelllejoy do you mean for water marbling? I'd say luke warm is pretty close to room temp

  • i didn't know u could do that. when my nails crack i always just clip them and start over.

  • does this make your nails thick ?

  • @MeYouI1 Slightly thicker, but not a lot - the more practice I get, the more even I can apply the gel, the thinner the final result =)

  • Hey thanks! I'm a ukulele player trying to get my weak, soft nails to stand up to fingerpicking. Your video helped after I got all my fingers stuck together last night with super glue 8^O

  • can u make a video about how u maintain ur nails? like ur weekly regimen and how u grew your nails. my nails peel and its really hard to keep the length i do get bc they r break so easily. or do u have any suggestions? thanks!

  • @OasisOfBeauty I don't want to make any promises - because I am a huge procrastinator - but it is on my to-do list. I do take a biotin suplement, and I try to keep my nails moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil. I also discuss products & nail maintenance tips about once a month on my blog =)

  • ive had acrylics for 6 years and im thinking about taking them off, and growing my real nails, would this be a good product for me to use, until my nails get stronger on their own??

  • @chelseainlove I think so. I have used patches on peeling/weak nails in addition to breaks like I show in this vid & they have really helped me =)

  • What are silk patches??

  • @MissHoneybear203 it is like a very thin piece of fabric - you can use an empty tea bag if you don't have anywhere that sells the real thing.

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues And what does it do?

  • @MissHoneybear203 It holds together a break or tear in the nail so that it can grow out =)

  • Great tip! My thumb nail does that all the time and I end up just cutting the entire nail off. I'm definitely going to try the silk wrap technique. Thanks!

  • This vid was so helpful because I decided to stop the artifical nails. After years of wearing artifical nails my nails are not strong and I didn't know what to do until I saw your vid. Thank you so much!

  • Come join my group at Nail Experts and upload this video there. The group focuses on natural nails and how you do your nails at home .. so you can post this video there and any other videos that have to do with how you grow your nails... etc NO NAIL ART

  • love the video

  • Great tutorial, thanks =)

  • Can u show ur face in 1 vid plz??

  • @celestesworld23 Maybe eventually ... but I'm very camera-shy! I'm still nervous just talking while showing my hands LOL

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues aww ITS OK! loll but ur a very pretty young women you should loll!!!!!

  • @celestesworld23 She has in her Nail Maintenance Video!

  • Great video!

  • how do you keep you nails so long? once mine get so long they start to peel and eventually break

  • @evcsgirl811 I do take a biotin supplement, other than that I try to keep my nails & cuticles very moisturized. When I have peeling tips, I have used patches like this to make them stronger until the peeling grows out.

If you head over to my blog, I've listed specific products that I like under the tag "Nail Maintence" =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues thanks, if i would have known you could use the patches on it if they are peeling i could have got them today at sallys lol i was just there earlier.
