There is evidence that the GMan could actually be Combine or Human, with him stating that 'The borderworld is now in our control; for the time being. A nasty piece of work you did back there', and that the Vortigaunts seem to 'protect' you from him in HL2 Episode 1, after saving you and Alyx from the Dark Fusion explosion in the Citadel, although the Nihilanth also says that GMan is not human in HL1.
So the GMan could be with the Combine.

Eli said he was there mutual friend but like at the title of the chapter. "Our Mutual Fiend". so, Is Gman neutral? There is possibility of him being a Combine Advisor using some of the powers found in Ep.2. but he might be using powers for more advanced advisors. Just a theory.

I think the gman is one of those sneaky government agents given them power to bend time and space to help save humanity. This also means, however, that in the process, there will be sacrafices, such as the death of hundreds.
He uses gordon freeman to help, but wont let him stay to protect him and/or prevent him from doing too much 'damage'.
The Vorts also have ssimilar powers thus stopping him from taking gordon away in HL2 Episode 1/2.
He might also be a third faction....

If you used the console often, you would realise that his npc code IS GMan, players didn't actually make it up for him.
Just try using spawn npc_gman, it should work.
You know, I dont think that even VALVe knows what GMan is and just made him up for a sort of easter egg 'Hide and Seek' game, seeing as there are very little other easter eggs in HL2

breen didnt create the zombies, breen was contacted by the combine promising him power and to be a ruler if he helped them get to earth so he did just that, the resinance cascade teleported the combine to earth and many other alien creatures in the process which is why there are all of those creatures in black messa, and when it happends you get teleported to an alien home world and back.

Gordon isnt a mute because with valve all main (playable) characters didnt speak and for your info in hl 1 he does talk (type gordon freeman talks for the first time) and there was a note in hl 1 that had a phone conversation between gordon and an employer. so he does talk. but im with you on the g-man isnt gordon theorie, just wanted to set thing straight :D.

My theory is WE SHOULD WAIT FOR VALVE TO TELL US! All of those theories are probably, but all in the end sound like bs. All of the 'information' backing each theory is lose and can be interpreted many different ways, which nullifies any of the theories themselves. The only one i see working most effective is that the gman is gorden himself, but that again is improbable. Ill just sit back and enjoy the story as its presented instead of thinking up rediculas theories.

Maybe the exiled vortigaunt idea is correct. In half-life 1 in the end gman says "the border world, Xen, is now in our control..." Maybe the vorts wanted to control Xen but couldn't because Nihilanath was to powerful and were forced to work for him?

My two theories are:
1.Gman is some sort of alien in diguise. This theory would explain the odd speech and powers.
2.Gman is Gordons future, who is trying to prevent a major screw-up somewhere along the line. This theory would explain the constant monotoring of your movements.
Again, these are just theories I came up with myself, but they seem decent enough to me.

I'doubt Gman is at all related to Gordon. How the hell Gordon's eyes change from green to that blueish color, or his hair changing from red to jet black? I think Gman is working for a group like the watchers from highlander. they can't interfere so they get gordon and Gman to get ther desires. Or we are all wrong and we will find out in episode 3 (maybe half life 3 if they come out with it. i doubt it though)

My theory is that the gman is incredbly important to the storyline I believed it was a entity only gordon could see but maybe only people involved with the black mesa incedent can see him...
