Many thanks, Uistman!  I love the border, the pictures, the song, and I especially appreciate you giving both the gaelic & the translations: and the history, origins!!! Impressive depth of knowledge you have! I'm wondering: are the refrains "oh hi o hu o fail.." - is this an example of "mouth music"? Like the pipes, I could listen forever to the gaelic!

I loved the Corries version of the song, but this one would have been much better if the singers used actual words instead of this gibberish fairy cooing.

These singers are using actual words, and I have listed the lyrics and the translation on the right hand side . If you object to the gibberish then why haven't you also noted your disapproval four days ago when you listened to the Corries version where they sang "o hi o hu o fail i o hu o" :-)

That's a hard one. The song is based on a waulking song composed by a 17th century poetess from Mingulay, the island that lies immediately to the south of Barra. The songs title is "La dhomh 's mi'm Beinn a'Cheathaich", which translates into "One day on the Misty Mountain". The song was then "amended" and translated by Marjory Kennedy-Fraser, and possibly others, and appeared as "Kishmul's Galley" and it was published in 1909 in "Songs of the Hebrides, vol 1".
