In any case, whatever impressions you may get from fans, this anime is actually not about gay men. Some of the male characters behave effeminately and there are subtextual jokes about homosexuality, but officially, it's a cracktastic comedy about personified nations, set against the backdrop of world history. It just happens to have a TON of female fans who love yaoi and BL and pairing characters together (myself included).
