  • I think this still sounds fresh. or at least has aged very well. same can't be said for Mick lol

  • wouahou sodebo c'est so naze comme pub en premiere partie !

  • I love Simply Red and Mick!!!

  • As a rule I detest Mick hucknall as he's a big ginger twat but this tune is undeniably orsome, a groove that any funk/soulster from the golden age in the mid seventies would be proud of; a real guilty pleasure but a pleasure all the same.

  • Une époque formidable ! Money killed everything ! Fuck Lady Gaga !

  • ever notice how the balls on the table change from pool to snooker and back again?

    1:53 and 2:11.. hmm..

  • and 26 years later money is too tight to mention...

  • I sometimes wonder if I love the 80's so much because 80's were great, or whether I love the 80's so much because the open road of life still lay before me. The journey of life was still young and fresh. The anticipation of adventures to come still excited my dreams. Decades seem to have slipped by in a moment. I wonder if the 80's were so great in my memories because hope and dreams breathed in my soul then.

  • man this is great music!

  • oh shit, just got fired. the moment my boss told me I thought "laid off from work my rent is due"

  • NIce one !!

  • This song is about the global financial crisis. Mick is a modern day Nostradamus

  • TIGHT TUNE

  • This Song's about Reagan

  • Very uplifting!!!

    Thanks;)

  • Did the earth move for you Nancy?

  • I still hear 'bunny's too tight to mention'.

  • What's the refrain towards the end? I still can't find the lyrics for it.

  • SR hit #28 in Billboard, 10-4-86. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Great song!

  • This is my boy,

  • They don't make' em like that no more.

  • Jesus Christ. I am on a Simply Red kick, having heard "Stars" recently and then went and researched some other songs..they were so great! This song is AWESOME. God, I miss the 80s.

  • I think the lines "I went to my brother to see what he could do...but i'm unable to" refers to Sam Cooke's song `A change is gonna come` when he sing 'Then i go to my brother and i say "brother can you help me?..."

  • the truth Ruth.............

  • ain't that the truth ruth..................

  • He sings that he doesn't qualify for a pension. This isn't strictly true as he would have paid national insurance contributions on his earnings. Mick can apply in writing to the DSS for full details of these contibutions, hope this helps Mick

  • 'CUTBACK' I think its my fave bit :)

  • I think we all can relate to this song!

  • @CnutRexAnglorum

    No can do...

I blame all the slackers & freeloaders wanting money without having to work for it.

  • This song... is... bad aasssssssssss.

  • Me fascina este video, esta canción, esta voz maravillosa!

  • It's funny, at one point in time starting off without wealth meant you had to display even more talent than those who had wealth and privilege. It seems today we celebrate attitude over aptitude and make celebrities out of the kitschy and unimportant. It's hard to think of new artists today whose musical contributions will be revered in 20 years.

Just consider how the big names of 5 or 10 years ago are already being forgotten.

  • NEEDLESSLY LONG INTRO but otherwise great video and highly relevant song even today. Plus you gotta love it when someone sticks it to the Reagans!

  • thumbs up if reggie watts brought you here

  • I love everything about you Simply.

  • Tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This song is relevant due to the ongoing recession

  • "El dinero me aprieta tanto contra el suelo, que no logro levantarme... "

  • I grew up listening to Simply Red....and one thing strikes me odd...mick looks like he came from Shawshank

  • Wow, this could be our new national anthem!

however i love simply red, my mom loved his music when i was a child so i grew up listening to it :)

  • I heard Mick got arrested lastnite.

Very strange occurance because it was for having sex with an underage rabbit of all things..

Apparently he was holding back the ears and the bunny was too tite to mention.

  • @llokkee I read about this too. And it got started on a fairground of all places.

  • @llokkee lol....that was lame and really funny at the same time...cheers! : D

  • @llokkee HAHAHAHAHHAHAA!!!

This is the comment of the century, if you're a Mick fan:)

  • i thought the song was about a rabbit

    [bunnys to tight to mention]

    [holding back the ears]

  • oh, what we won't to for the money?

  • delicioso sonido de los 80's, como amo este grupo

  • This song was written & released in the day's of the Thatcher government which were pretty grim for the average person. Then Labour had decades to get it right & did't. Now we have the coalition,.......don't hold your breath - O for the life of the landed gentry or the banker!

  • very good ,it great song,im from of chile

  • how appropriate for these hard economic times I can hardly make it from one payday until the next one. thumbs up if you agree

  • je possède le maxi-vinyle de 1985 , j'adore SIMPLY RED

  • THAT IS NOT A GIRL, THAT'S MICK

  • Is the best.

  • IS ANYONE ELSE GETTING THESE "END OF THE WORLD" ADD'S!?

  • friggin great song for any era!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my parents struggled their parents struggled my sister and i struggle history repeats itself!!!!!!! everyone i know is struggling and yes i'm a democrat haha

  • How apt is this?

  • Why does everyone hate Mick Hucknall so much?

  • MONEY IS TOO TIGHT TO MENTION THIS DAYS WITH THE GAS PRICES!! IS CRAZY!!!

  • Too right money is tight, I am watching this using a dongle, took 18 attempts to get through it.

  • This song is timeless....great when it came out in 85 and is STILL an awesome tune. Congratulations Mick

  • what a song !!!! i no just how he feels xx

  • I got here by Reggie Watt's cover.

  • @BluflameX2 Same here

  • @BluflameX2 Dude me too! <3

  • One of the quirkiest bands from The 80's; Of their tunes, THIS ONE was more worthy to be a number one single in The USA, NOT "Holding Back The Years". I truly believe that.

  • @kja427 I couldn't agree with you more. I must've heard "Holding Back The Years" or "If You Don't Know Me By Now" a million times on the radio back during the 80's/90's. Both great songs but they were way overplayed & gave American listeners the impression that Simply Red only did ballads. I never ever recall hearing this terrific song or others like "A New Flame" on the radio. It was only after I bought their G/H album a few yrs ago that I found out how many upbeat songs this band had.

  • @vodude It's also probably the reason Simply Red hasn't toured the US since "Stars". They really aren't appreciated here as much as they/he deserves to be.

  • @kja427 TRUE TRUE !!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kja427 I never thought of this band as ' quirky '! They were extremely popular in the 80's here in the UK . Shame that the US didnt get to hear all of their music back then but hopefully you can now due to the wonder of Youtube ! I love their stuff ( though Mick Hucknall didnt do a lot for me at the time , yes I'm female ! ) . I've looked at your profile & you seem to like listening to the same kind of music that I do so you obviously have extremely good taste ................. !!

  • This Red haired girl sho enough can sing! So soulfoul.

  • @ohnoyouaint its not a girl u spack

  • @ohnoyouaint Are you calling Mick a girl?

  • @ohnoyouaint some people are so ignorant-but at least they can recognize good music

  • @ohnoyouaint you realise its a dude? hahahaha

  • @ohnoyouaint The singer of Simply red is a man.

  • this is the greatest song. love it!

  • 0:09 kinda looks like Prince

  • I wish the I was still in the financial position today as I was when this song came out- I NEVER thought in a million years that MY BELOVED COUNTRY, AMERICA would have the financial trouble we are having today! We have a MAJOR problem with corporate greed, sky high fuel costs, over-taxation, and our society is trying to keep up with the information age- these computers we use, and gangs and crack cocaine/ meth/ is a cancer to all of us!! I hope and pray that MY offspring can overcome this.

  • l'original par les "valentines brothers" est pour moi cent fois mieux plus funk

  • You better care for social living.

  • They need to re release this

  • Loveee it <3 wish i was my age in 1985 x

  • I was just think about this, nowadays money is too tight to mention, unless you are oprah.

  • I use to play this song to death... and now how its mos def for this time of year

  • Not much has changed Socialism for the rich and Capitalism for the rest of us who are always made to pay for their greed and incompetence. Not much has changed since the 80s folks, it has just become more obvious.

  • I THINK THIS SONG SAYS IT ALL ABOUT TODAYS WORLD NOW.

  • Not as good as the original

  • absolute smasher

  • class mick....good old red..

  • did the earth move for ya nancy

  • So true

  • Is anyone allowed to post a comment on this song, I've been tryin for ages?

  • I love this song!

Workers of the world, unite! - Karl Marx

  • for Nick Clegg and David Cameron

  • Those greedy bankers are a bunch of, well, bankers!!!

  • oi hucknall, when your simply ready - best IT crowd quote in the world!

  • How on earth can you dislike this.. Anyway 869 people cannot be wrong!!

Got to be their best song.

  • Damn! Chris Evans can really sing...

  • As someone who feels lucky to have come of age during the Reagan-era and who is now active in the Tea Party I disagree very much with the politics of this song but I still love the musical artistry of it.

Mick Hucknall must have the sexiest voice in music.

  • @annoyinglittletwerp this song tries to expose the fact that reaganomics didn't help all americans. in fact, it hurt many of them. i think it's safe to say mick didn't have you in mind when he put pen to paper on this one.

female republicans...you're a real treat, i tell ya.

  • @annoyinglittletwerp I guess, good music and good feelings cross party-lines. Ha!

  • Reaganomics in Congress...hmmm...something that is being taught in my Political Science right now! HHHHMMMM!

  • Skint!! all over again

  • To hear Susiebear's opinion go to the Stranglers Golden Brown?

Excellente chanson, Excellents musiciens, Excellent chanteur. SUPERBE MERCI.

  • why do people bother looking these videos up and then press the dislike button??

  • Great Song.... oh the 80's had the best music... much better then than now a days.

  • preach brother red,I Iove this music , because I live in Michigan and getting hit hard, and New Jersey because the powers to be their greed republicans

  • soul + jazz + blues + rock = SIMPLY RED, perfeccion

  • Very appropriate for a recession

  • OMG this should be Cameron's theme tune.

  • Love this song

  • Did this website originate in the soviet union?

  • wot are the lyrics hes singing from 4.07 onwards?

  • How did this fool live through the Carter years and come out singing about being repressed by Reaganomics?? Listen closely, Ronnie and Nancy are mentioned in the end. Typical Liberal artists, great music, effed up lyrics...

  • I think this song is very apropriate for whats going on with the economy and all the job loses today.

  • Classic song!
