audio engineer has been the term for this profession for years. making high quality recordings is not easy, and he's not just throwing the word engineer around.
An Engineer is a profession just like a doctor or a lawyer. We dont go around saying we are a "Sanitation Doctor" in this society. Its OK to say you use engineering procedures or the like but to use the name "Engineer" in a job title without a degree from an accredited university is totally inappropriate and amounts to nothing more than a WannaBee...

Many things aren't easy. Just because he may have some knowledge, it doesn't make him an Engineer. Study a masters in Engineering, then he will be an Engineer.
I AM a recording engineer, and I will have everyone know it's not a joke. Frankly it's obvious that who ever thinks that has never tried to make a grate sounding record.
hes so right about there being no "a class" recordings out there. i've stopped once to listen to a recording twice in the last year because it was so nice to listen to.
