The 100m world record changes every 1-5 years. The 400m on the other hand changes every 10-20 years. The previous record holder of the 400m was Reynolds in 1988, Johnson broke this record 11 years later. And 11 years later this record still holds.

All of that goes out of window when you're talking about Usain Bolt! Aren't you aware 100m was never an interest of his, nor did he previously show great potential in it until he started running 100m as part of a training regime for the 200m!
Yea, i know Bolt ran 9.72 in his second ever serious 100m, but still he looks much less able around 400m. He ran a 45.5 running all the way to the line. I think he could be a good 400m runner (around 44secs) but he has no incentive to train for it! He would risk his current progress at 100m and 200m because 400m training is very different. Wariner can run a 43.5, but cant break 20secs for the 200m.

No one is saying he break the world record.

I ran 48.7, 48.8 in h.s. many times but I only made varsity in the 800.
I'm from the South L.A. area and also went to school in Oakland. If you know the track scene out there, you know 48 isn't shit. There were 4 or 5 dudes ahead of me in high 46s, 47s or low 48s.

everyone knows that Michael johnson was an incredible runner for his time. The whole world world admires him for what he did. So does most of the intenational communitay knows that you USA people have the best training methods, and thats why you have thr best athlets all over the planet. ofc this changed abit since the rise of the jamaicans. but still USA is the place to, to be a succesfull sprinter

my ass can anyone beat this record im 14 and did 400m in 1minute 04 and at my athletics club i did it in 1min 09 secs after running around 400m track 7 times :) im 14

ahaha that's funny cause i never joined any track club and ran a 53.2 on the 400 as a 14 year old and i was only 5th at city finals..i never in my life ran over 59 seconds, and the first time i ran a 400 was when i was 13

sure,i suspect(and its only my opinion)that michael was doped to the gills on high grade undetectable human growth hormones,or steroids,but he was still a totally amazing athlete to watch,and i wonder if his 400 record will ever be bettered.....i have my suspicions about him,but doped or not,he was a huge talent.

although i admit the 10k races are indeed insane, you can't disagree with the adrenaline rush and the build up of a race that'll be over in a matter of seconds
i agree with the man with the name i cannot pronounce (pdr36mg), distance and sprints are completely different and if anyone says otherwise i'd like to see him run a sub 9 minute 2 mile while only training for the 100
