I make a rule of not saying saying negative things online, but am devastated by what I come to learn. My first hand interaction with Brendan Fraser was the greatest disappointment of my life. I don't know if it is a mid life crisis or an addiction he is refusing to deal with, but I found out he has a sadistic streak and likes to hurt woman (if not the ones who can affect his career). If abuse victims start to come forward the world will be more let down by him than anyone was by Mel Gibson.

A year ago I received several replies from a man whose avatar included a swastika on the back of a bald head and who a was encouraging a tirade of anti-Semitism in this thread, and who was responding to my defense of Fraser's character. I reported the comments to youtube for hate speech and they were good enough to remove the coments. it also looks like the channel is now down. Not that it matters but, Fraser claims he a zen buddhist if not a very good one lately.

Adrian Brody was very good in The Pianist, but Sir Michael Caine deserved the Best Actor Oscar for this performance.

Amazing Film.. I find it interesting that American history is always edited for the masses, their convert support of south Vietnamese government, their support of Pol Pot(who killed 1 out 5 people in his country), support of Iraq(ally) then attacking it. By the way Jenchens the reason the first movie version was so terrible is that unclassified CIA documents show they bought the screen rights to the movie to bury it - to prevent negative publicity on the Vietnam war

After seeing the film I'm curious to read the novel. Was surprised to hear it got a standing ovation when it opened in Canada, but was rushed to video in the states because of some backlash during politically sensitive times. A pity Greene didn't develop Phuong's character more, but it wouldn't be the first time a woman would be more a symbol & perhaps it makes sense. Caine received lots praise, but Fraser deserves equal credit. People are being snobs just because he worked with Daffy Duck. ( :

I hate bigots. Sounds like somebody took the character he played in a movie like School Ties (a very wonderful film everyone should see) a little too literally. I have no idea what his beliefs are and nor is it my business. I only know that this versatile and talented actor works with great integrity. This is still on my list of films to see.

I'm looking forward to seeing this. Brendan Fraser is an incredible actor, and many fans would be surprised by his range.. After hearing his audio book I realize he could play many parts (a scottish king, a british knight, an elf, or Robin hood... You name it.) He's far more than a pretty face and should be working with all the greats.

Some of these comments are a little bizarre... to put it kindly.

@moloko1707 Brendan Fraser is a heeb. Grahm Green's quiet american was an evangelical. bad casting. All i can think of when brendan fraser comes on screen is, "what a jew, whats he doin in this movie?"

@anna92900 : It answer the question why US involved in VietNam. It was written in 1953 but the view of the author almost make it true when Pyle got killed.

The author saw thru the whole picture of US plan and involvement and concequences... that's why this book is great.

He said it just a fiction, but it does have a lot of history events in it.

The original score was wrote by Craig Armstrong. It also includes original Vietnamese song, plus Armstrong's exceptional score.

The plot of this story is one of the most profound and prophectic books on how not to interfere ever wrote. The movie is first class.
