this is due to the undersighted pool to have a HOT STANDBYE set of video audio amplifiers and cable run. These pools were put together bye the media support leaders. The equipment failure or operation error has stopped the lies and deceptions anyhow... too bad Carter won... what a bozo
a young fellow responded to me , upon seeing this clip, that.."..see George Bush was causing trouble all the way back then!" I had to inform him that President Ford was referring to his father George Herbert Walker Bush, then CIA director..."W" was only in his teens...try again kid..lol

OK get a load of this. An acquainted(loosely said) of mine heard this speech the other day..and seriously.. SERIOUSLY pointed to this as more evidence that George W Bush was the puppet master all the way back the..FYI "W" was about 17years old and his father George Herbert Walker Bush was CIA Director.. People try to be dumb some times.

@Claronium780 Yeah I agree. That one term almost Bankrupted the USA and permanently Hobbled our ability to have been respected Worldwide. but im pretty sure that this was not the answer you were fishing for.

"Breakdown in the trust among our people": Then silence.................................. Sounds very fishy to me! Like planned audio difficulties. Carter was censored. Plain and simple!!!!
Yes, "pool audio", or a "pool feed" in broadcast parlance, is coverage of a news event furnished by one network, but is shared and used by other networks as well, as if in a "pool". Most televised or radio-aired presidential coverage in the US (State of the Union, etc), or any other significant news events, are usually from pool feeds...
Ford did well in all 3 debates. He made the one mistake in the 2nd debate that may have cost him the election. Carter did well in the last 2 debates. Especially the 2nd. By the way, how could they just stand there?
What did you expect them to do? For all they know, the glitch could have been fixed any moment. Its only with hindsight that we know it lasted 27minutes.
Yes, I also read somewhere (I think it was in some b'cast engineering magazine) that the audio outage was due to a failed audio DA (distribution amp), possibly where the culprit capacitor was located (I'm guessing it might of been an electrolytic cap, those always seem to be the most failure-prone).
Nothing like having to listen to and look at ugly David Brinkley. UGH. Let's poll the spectators and see what they thought! Please don't turn the channel - keep looking at me!
I know from his autobiography that President Ford regretted this moment. He wrote in his book that he wished he would have gone across the stage to just visit with Governor Carter. However, neither candidate was sure if the problem would be 1 minute or as it turned out several minutes.
"it is not a conspiracy..." hahaha thanks for that, as soon as the sound was cut I immediately jumped to that conclusion.

Someone should have told them to interpretive dance their debate until the sound was restored

So Ford conspired to give Carter 27 minutes to think of the best way to respond? That's a really crappy conspiracy theory.

Old news networks had a way of pointing out the obvious when it came to things like this.

I remember years ago when I was taking an electronics class, they mentioned this failure was caused by a failed capacitor.
