out of all the villians, souther was the most resilient, even after he got defeated he managed to jump in the air using his arms, and did a barrage of phoenix punches, no one else did so, not Kaioh or Raoh, who after their weakness was exposed, Kaioh's matouki and Raoh's musou tensei, they stopped doing anything.

Ken was superior to him into Nanto Palace on fight 2 cause he managed Satori properly. but in the third fight even Ken admit that Raoh should standed victorius vs him if he shouldn t has sacrificed his brute strenght for Julia sickness letting her to live several more years with her cancer. Ken wasnt stronger than Raoh (stronger than Kaio for sure btw), maybe even but more likely a little inferior.

If Raoh had killed Yuria, he wouldn't have learned Musou Tensei in the first place. If you remember, Yuria coughed just before Raoh was going to kill her. It was that revelation that opened his heart and taught him sadness. Ken was superior in terms of sadness and sacrifice because he fought against great rivals. Raoh even says: "My only friend/rival was Toki..."

Hands down the best pure villain in the series. Raoh was sort of a hero (and my overall favorite), but as far as pure villains go, no one comes close to Souther. Long live the Saint Emperor, SEITEI SAUZAA, KIKARU, KIKARU WA!!! KIKARU, KOBIRU, KAEMINUUUU!!!

@theshooter2000 I think Shin was the most cruel though, he was one cruel son of a gun, down to capturing Yuria, and being the mastermind of terrorizing several villages, see the early episodes of Fist of the North Star, and you will see this.

@kalai131 Shin was definitely not the most cruel. First of all the early episodes were mostly filler. In the manga Shin dies after Heart is killed. Secondly, Shin spared Saki and many others in Southern Cross at Yuria's request. He also took the blame for Yuria's death so Raoh wouldn't get her. Not very cruel if you ask me. Souther had ALMOST no redeemable qualities. The only other villains that come close are Jagi and Kaioh as they have ZERO redeemable qualities.

@theshooter2000 Although most you stated here is correct, Souther killed his own master and that pain most likely made him go nuts, while Kaioh watched his mother sacrifice her life for two children that were not hers. I'm pretty sure that watching your mother day like that makes you lose sight of reality and stop carrying for anything on this world.

Both had enough redeemable qualities.

Jagi however had no reason for the way he acted. He was a hatred filled punk-ass for the fun of it.

@cnh2132 Most likely? It did make Souther go nuts as evidenced in the flashback. I also acknowledged that Souther had some redeemable qualities, just not enough to be a fallen hero. IMO, he was definitely a pure villain. None of his wounds justify him putting kids into labor death camps. As for Kaioh, I actually did watch my own mother die and you don't see me killing my sister then lying about it to get someone to kill someone else. Jagi did have his reasons mainly it had to do w/respect for

LOL, I just realized that Souther blocking Kenshiro's 100 Crack Fist at 1:26 is the exact same animation used when Amiba when he fought Kenshiro 20+ episodes ago. This series was quite low budget considering how famous it ultimately became.

Interestingly, that makes Amiba one of only three or four enemies in the entire series to not only survive a 100 Crack Fist, but block it to no effect.

It's funny because if anybody here is a Metal Gear fan, they'll recognize Banjo Ginga's voice as Liquid Snake (in the Japanese version). @lancekaj To be fair to Souther, the Mad Colonel, Yuda, etc. were just as evil as him, but without the freudian excuse of being tricked into killing his adopted father. It's just that Souther was powerful and charismatic enough to do evil on a larger scale. Likewise, Shin was only a little less horrible than Souther (working adults to death instead of children) and Ken still treated him with sympathy when he died. It's easy for a villain in HnK to be sympathetic because of the company they're in

Souther's theme music is so cool. I absolutely love the part at 5:26 when it starts playing: "I won't retreat, beg or quit!" Even though Souther has taken a ton of damage and had his main strength paralyzed by Kenshiro, he manages to pull of one last ultimate attack anyway.
