for those of you who didn't know, the speckle trout is actually one of the members of the drum species. its not an actual "trout" like fresh water fish, they just grew the same adaptations through evolution :)
this is not a trout! you see it, because they are not typical for all salmonid fin does fat. sry, for the bad inglish, I'm not german. I speak as one in English "dorsal fin" writes white, but the little fin kurk is before the tail fin.
Captain Black is the Best Guide in the business today. I have had several trips with him and am planning another one very soon. Those trout are not freshwater trout like steel heads, browns or brooks they are Spotted Sea trout or speckled trout and they are amazingly beautiful and tasty. I usually only keep 1 or 2 for dinner if any and let the rest go.To see one explode on a Top Water is something truly special to see!
thats a very nice trout was you throwing jigs are free lining pogies i like using pogies early in the am free lined than as soon as the sun hits the horizion go to top water like a top dog or sparkle beetles
spotted weakfish (Cynoscion nebulosus) commonly known as a spotted sea trout but it is not a member of the salmonoid family and is therefore not a true trout. nevertheless, it is a trout by name, although not by science. it is of no relation to true trout or salmon. twin dorsals will tell you that for a start. good fish, keep it up and keep posting
They're not uncommon that size in the Indian River system in Fla. We call them gators when they get that size, because of the way the head flattens out on the big females. Where were you fishing?
wtf is wrong with u guys? you cant touch its skin cause youll take off its slime coat for protection, you cant lip it unless you want 2 teeth holes in your thumb, its not a weakfish! its a trout a regular trout! weakfish have hundreds of spots all around there body.
It's a spotted seatrout, aka speckled trout, cynoscian nebulosis, common on the gulf of mexico and southern atlantic coasts, they grow to be about 12-15 pounds tops and are very fun to catch and very good to eat. No relation to northern trout like rainbows or lakers, but they're actually related to red and black drum found in the same areas, and also the white sea bass of california. does that help?
South Padre Island, Port Mansfield, or Boca Chica Beach?
