  • Not much winding arround the post = unstable string. That's what I wanted to know xD

  • This helped me a LOT not gonna lie... I usually have to tie the string before tuning it on the post But this guy made it a LOT better for me o_o

  • Fml! My string snapped /:

  • my string broke -.-

  • New strings will not stay perfectly in tune(they always want to go flat) simply because they're new, not because you messed up with stringing your guitar, they just need to be broken in. When I string my guitar, before i tighten them all the way, i leave some slack and lightly bend and flex the strings to 'loosen them up' or 'stretch them out' and they don't dramatically go out of tune.

  • Okay, I have another problem. I put all the strings on my guitar, but some of them are unstable, maybe it's because It's only wrapped around once, but I tried two times to make it two and it didn't work. Any ideas?

  • Thank you very much. I have the same looking guitar but it is a Hamer. This video helped me a lot and I am very grateful. You saved me a lot of money! :)))

  • Thanks, very helpful!

  • thank you, good video.

  • lol. i tried this just to try. my string wasnt broken or anything and now i think my guitar is out of tune on my thick E...not much but DAMMIT ILL NEVER CHANGE MY STRINGS ON MY OWN AGAIN FUCK THIS

  • Is it bad if all my strings wrap around only once?

  • @sirleftyguitar I have the same and it sounds weird... At least I'm not the only one that fucks up.

  • @sirleftyguitar they will more easily go out of tune, that's about it

  • i was putting bullet strings on my guitassrs and when i tunned it the lower E and the G sstring

    (lol) popped on me

what strings do you think are the best?

  • thank u vety vety much senior

  • went through everything in the video...Didnt have wire cutters..

  • Nice watch. What is it?

  • ive been playing for years and i just learned how to change strings from this video lol

  • Comment removed

  • My guitar has this white sort of plate on the back, and before I start with removing the old strings, how can I get the end of the old string to come and stick out of that white plate?

    Help me please :)

  • i dont have a fixed bridge.. i use a cort x1.. how do i get it out the back..???

  • Really helpful, cheers

  • i should have watched this first i broke my first string now i how no high E :[ well i still tuned my Drop D :D

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial! It helped me alot.

  • anyone seen that kids in the hall skit?

  • damn cant find a single video that shows how to do restring a trhu body (tremolo) type guitar

  • my first string snap was when I was tuning a used guitar for the first time that had 10 year old unplayed strings...

  • how much time do I must change guitar strings?

  • @totan2696 Depends on the amount of time that you play...I usually change whenever my guitar starts doing a wierd noise (on the thinner strings), like from 2 in 2 months. If you're just starting, you should be able to wait longer until you need to change them. :)

  • my b string snapped on an A chord and it slashed my hand and it hurt like shit

  • @PlaneChasers .. haha

  • Some advice would be nice:

The thinnest string on my guitar snapped a while ago, last week I got a new string to replace it. I did everything as told but when I started to strike it up, it was first in B, then it went to D. I tried to other direction but the sound just went lower so it couldn't have been right. Well, I tried to go to the D direction again, but before it even was in the D it snapped. I', quite new in all the guitar stuff so some advice that what I've may done wrong would be great

  • @Stroija yeah Same here Ive been playing for 5 years and never happend until 10 minutes ago the thinnest E strings the most common to bsnap string all of my ukes E strings(thinnest) snap every once in a while

  • @Stroija It can happen if you don't tie it up properly. It will basically untie itself (hence the tone goes down even though you're winding up)

Also new strings do that a lot until they get used to the tension. I like to let my strings rest when I put them on and then slowly break them in by gently playing them a few hours later.

  • @EDIshames Okay, thanks mate! :)

  • Thanks!

  • Well I am not pretty sure but I think that he may mention that the strings`d be removed each one separately, if you remove all the strings I think it is not very `healthy` for the neck?

  • most people got smacked in the face lol it worked for me thanks

  • Doesn't even go round the tuning key for me

  • thanks for the video it erally helped me :)

  • iLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE u

  • lol I've been playing guitar for two years and I still forget if the first wind goes over or under ( :

  • How to String an Electric Guitar For Retards

  • Omg... I just tried restringing my guitar and I got slapped in the face now I have to buy new strings ahhh!!! I should of watched this a long time ago... Thank you for the vid. When in doubt go to youtube whenever you want to do something yourself.

  • thank you! i tried restringing my guitar from watching my friend and fucked up and got smacked in the face

  • Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for.

  • Great explanation - plain and simple - Thanks.

  • im not a dummie.. your a dummie!

  • @ricky642 and yet you came here. Oh the irony.

  • @ricky642 You're*

  • is there a way to make my strings bend greater?

  • @dookiebabii start off with a lower gauge set of strings ( they are quite easy to bend.) say, ernie ball 9's super slinky and as your fingers get stronger and as the ends of your fingers are harder you could try moving up gauge's because the higher the gauge the better tone you are going to get....and by then you should be able to bend the higher gauge's.

  • @soundslikedistortion i see! it was very helpful mate! next time i'll buy new strings, i will consider that

  • yesterday i bought a new set of strings. then i eagerly replaced my old strings with the new one. but i was ignorant and thought i could do this with my own. so the 6th string snapped and i bought another one today. now i'm watching this very helpful video. I learned my lesson!

  • hey i've just done the same string as you showed, but there's like a flarping (?) sound like flpppflppp ?

  • cheers :)

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH

I Just got an electric guitar today and I ended up braking a string while tuning :( I don't want my parents to find out X(

  • @pdandbl lol haha get used to the tuner man. u could buy any type of strings for 10 to 12 bucks and u can change just the broken string. but would be good if u can take along the broken string to let the guitar shop guy know what gauge it is.

  • THANKYOU!!!!!

  • ooooooooooooooohhhhhhh.........

  • Thanks a lot

    U rock

  • Cool beans

  • every time i wind a string i cut it aaaaaaaaaaaaa

    i cut 3 strings till now :@

  • I can't believe how I fucked this up, thanks.

  • Thank you so much you have no idea how much that helped

  • I've been playing for two years and I sometimes come back to this for a refresher when I've not restrung in a long time :3

  • sounds like the guy from will it blend

  • I wouldn't cut the excess of my strings; it'll look like Tom Morello's that way!

  • Thanks for this video. It helped me a lot. The first time I tried to string, the string snapped. The second time it went perfectly. So thanks again.

  • was this done at dawsons in manchester?

  • my teacher sais : for the low E , i have to turn it 2 time and then [ut the string through the hole , is that correct or should i do what this guy is doing???

  • @callofmygun1 do what this guy is doing if it wasnt right then it wouldnt have been uploaded, also i have been following this video method for months and it has never gone wrong :)

  • i know how to do it now the only reason why i watched this video is because my string snapped and bitch slapped me in the face....... 0.0

  • @xXxRainbowbitch66xXx yah well i took an arrow in the knee sooo get on my level

  • @xXxRainbowbitch66xXx i already did the first part... i broke it thts why.

  • @xXxRainbowbitch66xXx

lmao i hate when that happens

  • @xXxRainbowbitch66xXx haha same here. i was tuning it then it snapped and slapped me in the face

  • @xXxRainbowbitch66xXx Same D: No idea why it snapped :(

  • This didn't teach me how to string an electric guitar because mine has a whammy bar... DISLIKE!

  • @lavamaster530 you are honestly retarded..

  • Is a one winding around the post enough? It feels pretty tight and i dont want the string to break!

  • @sukkahiki666 just keep winding till you hit the desired note

  • I just got a guitar for the first time today. I have a question. The "bridge" seems to be on the other side of my guitar. the strings go in to the guitar at the bottom and there is a white case on the other side. Do I have to remove the white cover from the back to restring?

  • @Disock It sounds like you've got a Fender strat or something of that nature.. If so the white cover normally doesn't need to come off. Just insert the strings through the holes from the back of the guitar (there should be an opening at the bottom of the white cover) and you pretty much follow the same process as in the video.

  • Haha everytime i learn to restring a guitar, i forget how to the next time i have to restring it

  • effin strings keep snapping! Just have my uncle do it forme,

  • F-i

  • How many times should the string go around the post?

  • @GameHelperrr Nevermind

  • @GameHelperrr it depends but it usually just three. Depends on the string. for the fattest one, 2 - 2 1/2. the thineestis like three

  • Would you think that putting Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings would change the sound of my Epiphone SG Special to make it sound more like a Gibson? Or would it be the amp?

  • @duckiesmayrule it sounds like you havent been in the guitar world very long. theres several factors that determine what the guitar sounds like (a million if you're picky). which is the answer to your question really. a guy wielding a gibson {model} could have any amp, strings, pickups, or whatever affecting his sound. if you want gibson sound, get a mahoghany guitar and plug it into something british. (close enough anyway. like i said you could get really picky about it)

  • @Ozzman1369 id also just like to add that demanding it sound like a gibson is really not worth it. there really isnt a gibson sound beyond the pickups. everything else is just a well set up, decent quality guitar. so you could do it with a *good* epi. and gibsons pickups today are not what they were yesterday either. im probably just confusing the hell out of you

  • Just broke two of my strings and it hit me two times. Now I have a wound on my hand :(

  • What about the back wind to stop string slip?

What about string tension across the neck when you only remove 1 string?

What about putting a bend in the "Wound Strings" to stop the binding from unravelling?

These are the rules I was taught many years ago.

  • this is easy but what about the beginners guitars that

you change th strings from the back

  • Somehow I always manage to screw up when I bend the string and start to wind it around the post...

  • I spun it when the string was around the guitar and it wacked the fuck out of my hand and now its bleeding ;(

  • Dear god, its actually that easy?!

  • THANK YOU !

  • To all you big-shot-know-it all-assholes, if you know so damn much, then why are you watching this video?? Im getting ready to pick up and start playing guitar for the first time in my life, and even though Im new to this, I know that at one point in time, all you generic Van Halen wanna be pricks started at "step one" just where Im at. So save your bullshit comments and appreciate what the video has to offer!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @damon323 don't worry about those guys, they are just trying to make themselves feel better by making beginners feel bad. I hope your guitar journey is a good one. Don't give up even when it gets hard (it takes a while to get the muscle memory down), because it is worth the hard work and the time. I love playing guitar and I hope you will too.

  • @Mu5icMan1 .. Thanks Bro, I appreciate the kind words. Im sure it takes a while to learn the guitar, or any instrument for that matter, but like you said, its very well worth it in the long run. Im gonna pick up a Squier Hot Rails Deluxe as a nice little starter guitar!! Can't wait!!!! Thanks again for your words of encouragement.

  • @damon323 i agree people are just stupid like that man the human race is nothing but stupidity and ignorance

    :|

  • @damon323 i've been playing for about 3 years now, no teacher though so i'm kinda behind in guitar, but i have to agree with you, the real reason i watch these vids though is to not fuck anything up, even though i've done it alot

  • Comment removed

  • @damon323 because i wanted to see, how a dummies comment looks like! and i've found this one on top (:

  • "your going to start by removing the old strings" lol, no shit

  • thanks yo

  • wath is the guitar? PLS

  • @vikVictory96 That is a Gibson Les Paul and it is highly expensive.

  • @birdo32 Thats not a Gibson that's an LTD les paul

  • @KoRnFan1001 my bad didnt see the LTD

  • thumbs up if 9gag brought you here.

  • I ain't no dummy.

  • 9GAG!

  • 9GAG

  • 9 gag army marchingggggggggggg!!!

  • 9GAG !!!

    ( : - I ) -

    Poker face !

  • @TripleTrollForce I'm a drummer and i CAN play guitar.

  • 9gag brought me here

  • @mekabizh1 why? link xD

  • LOL i only came here because i fought it said "How to string an electric guitar for drummers"

Everybody knows drummers cant play guitar...

  • @TripleTrollForce I'm a guitarist and I can play drums, why couldn't a drummer play guitar?

  • LOL i only came here because i fought it said "How to string an electric guitar for drummers"

    Dum Drummers...

  • I love esp guitars

  • the string streching part looks dangerous lol

  • Old string rust,Dust breathe this

  • I'm scared I will give it too much slack.. :(

  • I have the same guitar!! :)

    (Awesome Guitar!! )

What is the default strings Gauge on this guitar?

  • @maxim14897 depends on what sound you want to get

  • @rumblegemfighter I don't know..

maybe something like metallica, megadeth ?

@landlords77 But It will be difficult to bend the strings.. right?

  • @maxim14897 you want some heave/ super heavy gauges

  • @maxim14897 For a Les Paul style guitar, I would recommend string with a .12 gauge, which is lighter string for a more lighter sound.

  • LOL!!! When I first seen it I thought it said how to string a guitar for Drummers.

  • I like how when you go to stretch the strings it looks as though your about to just rip the whole string out of place.

  • @sanman312

dude a lot of rip offs are pretty bad but u cant say that about them all i kno some ripoff brands that are EXTREAMLY good and they cost half the money some ppl cant afford to pay 800 for a guitar bro....plus you know what they say... imitation is the most sincere form of flattery

  • Nice video but please don't support these companies that make rip off guitars. If you want a les paul buy a gibson or at least an epiphone. At least then you wont be funding theft.

  • @sanman312 Have you caompared the bodies? They arent too simliar. EVERY company designs bodies similar to another companies' at some point in time. Heck, even Epiphone has a stratocaster style body. So, by purchasing one, you're funding theft that Gibson is responsible for.

  • @mcbm1991 It is NOT theft. ESP guitars has their own specifications for a single cut electric guitar, AKA the 'LP' shape. Ibanez came out with the "super Strat" shape in the early 80s with their S and RG series, but these guitars were of their own design. The same thing applies here to this LTD single cut. And if you're making this comment from a Gibson purist perspective, Gibson has made SEVERAL guitars modeled off of Gretsch models. I hope that this comment has enlightened you on this topic.

  • @ryanheart93 I wasnt saying it is. I was trying to make a point to another person that all comapnies make instruments similar to other designs. Thats how business works. Take something successful, make it your own, put it in the market. That makes the world go round. When I said the word "theft", I was simply using the other persons' words against them to prove the same point you just stated. I hope this comment has enlightened your misunderstanding. Thorough observation can prove useful.

  • @mcbm1991 I am sorry for jumping the gun. I was reading down the thread, and realized my mistake. I take full responsibility for speaking out of turn, and for that I apologize.

  • @ryanheart93 Not a problem at all my friend. Ive been guilty of the same thing once or twice haha.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this. I been in doubt of how to do this the best possibly way for 20 years but I have been too embarrassed to tell anyone. - Maybe I should because you prove that I have always done it totally incorrect ;-)

  • Does anyone believe it is possible to break i reckon around 8 strings in 1 month? & ALL of them have broken at the bridge!! Am I doing something wrong or is it my guitar?

  • @fries3518

I don't see how a guitar could do that, I would think it would most probably be you...but I could not say 100%

  • @SuperSquishface yeah I reckon you're right there but I know one thing 4 sure, it's really pissing me off!

  • @fries3518 If the gauge is '9 or lower, there might be a temperature or tuning issue. If your guitar is tuned higher than it should, thin strings can break due to high tension. Also, if you're exposing your guitar to temperature changes (especially from hot to cold), if you start bending your strings like there's no high frets while the strings and materials are still contracting they will most likely break.

  • @fries3518 What kind of guitar do you hvae? What tuning do you play in? And What Gauge Are youre strings?

  • @jmancan Ahh its a Silvertone, (secondhand, picked it up pretty cheap) normal tuning and light gauge strings.

  • this guy is wrong do not watch this video. you have to cross the string over itself. he is not going around the pegs enough. 3 to 4 times on the first three and 5 to 7 on the small ones. what a fag!!!!!!!!! lol bend the string at a 90 before you cut them.

  • What is the name of that guitar? It's so beautiful!

  • @NFSPlay3r Its a rip off of a gibson les paul burst made by LTD.

  • best tutorial of this on youtube!

  • A little bit more annoying with a fender, but really helpful! Unlike some videos that make you do intricate loops with the new string round the tuners.

  • yeah its easy on a stop tailpiece, lol what if u have a floyd rose

  • A thousand thanks!

  • thanks this really helped and its easier than I thought now :)

  • Thanks for the help man. I'm a beginner guitarist

  • Word of warning, if you screw up to much your brand new strings will break.

  • @MENTOK420

    Just did that. FML.

  • @MENTOK420 I've only done this a billion times!

  • You can change strings? All this time I've just been buying new guitars....

  • @Evilwhiteclownpunk classic

  • @Evilwhiteclownpunk I'm so bad at changing strings thats what I should do lol!

  • @Evilwhiteclownpunk It really is for dummies...

  • @Evilwhiteclownpunk lol sucks for you xD unless your joking

  • The High E String... The bane of every beginner guitarists existence..

  • @xcaluhbration what does that mean?

  • do u still have to stretch out the string if its the high e string??

  • Thanks this helped me with my fender!

    Other vids kind of sucked

  • this video helped me alot my Gstring is a bitch D: but now i can replace it thanks :D

  • i just got dimebags strings n i have the same bridge as the vid will they work? help

  • @wheelzft any strings will work with any guitar just make sure they are electric guitar strings, i recomend ernie ball super slinkys

  • Awesome thanks so much!!!!!

  • Great video! way better than the other video i watched
