  • You kids are idiots/ You have no clue about reality.

  • Class trip!

  • IM A SO FUCKING PROUD OF YOU KIDS!, TO HEAR THE SEA OF STUDENTS FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHT TO LEARN IS SO POWERFUL! I WANT TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT! IM HOMELESS AND I THINK I HAVE MORE IN THE AMERICAN PUBLIC THEN ANY PUBLIC OFFICAL!

  • Very proud. Be strong.

  • This and the Occupy movement give me hope about the future of this country. It's supposed to be about We The People, and The People are waking up!

  • Many say this is just an excuse for high-school aged kids to get out of class... but then they have never met any passionate youth. Fires for change come from all ages- don't let ANYONE tell you your voice doesn't matter.

This video and movement is beautiful. Keep it up!!! And remember when you can vote: question everything, trust your gut, research everyone.

  • Right on kids. Way to make your voice heard!

  • Go back to school

  • Great action!

  • good for them! students are the future!

  • The mayor could have at least addressed the kids' concerns instead of just walking through to get to the other side... should have asked him a question to see what his plan of action would. I am proud and honored to be a Bulldog Alum. Well done everyone!!

  • I am happy that these kids are doing something postive by standing up instead of sitting down and remaining passive! They are learning far more about democracy being outside of the classroom than in it.

  • The voice of the people will be heard, either by bull horn, the "people's microphone", or at the ballot box.

  • Every High School Student across the country should be doing this.

  • Applause for students standing strong against legislators who have lost their way (putting it politely). Legislators who are de-funding education, are not protecting citizens. Stop cuts to areas that benefit all of society. Stop sending our tax dollars to the business people who own charter and online schools... it's a SHAM, a HOAX, it is criminal. STOP spending money on war. Wars can be funded by those corporations that will profit from war. Consider it investing in your own business.

  • @98thProductions Everyone is affected by educational budget cuts. This is our society we are talking about, everyone's daily life and quality of living.

  • @DrCube we're protesting state cuts

  • Where's the SPD with the pepper spray? Did they realize that was not the way to deal with a crowd they don't like?

  • @DeeEss81 We had the support of the government of Seattle, so we were actually escorted to and from City Hall by the police.

  • Good shit kids

  • Good job Garfield students! I want to see every HS out there protesting. They tried cutting education when I was a student at Evergreen HS, and that was 30 years ago.

  • I might need to retract my previous statements. Can anyone tell me whether the students are protesting the Washington state budget cuts or Federal Dept. of Education budget cuts. If this is a state issue I am with the kids on this. I haven't been able to find a clear answer as to who exactly they are protesting.

  • @DrCube We are indeed protesting state budget cuts, not federal budget cuts.

  • @JackSwiggett Oh okay, then I am all for this! I have seen so many protests against cutting federal student loans that I jumped the gun a little.

  • Awesome totally.

  • Way to go Peter! So proud!

  • Garfield +9 Roosevelt students. Haha.

  • Dr. Cube needs to think outside of his tiny box he's got himself trapped in. If these kids are working they ARE paying taxes. Even if they are not working students they are voicing their displeasure with their education being treated an non essential. How can you not side with them on that? SMH!

  • FANTASTIC job kids! Was this organized soley by students or were teachers involved in any way? You have inspired this lady that is for certain!

  • @natncody This was entirely a student-planned event. We were inspired in part, however, by the arrest of our teacher, Mr. Hagopian.

  • Thank you, Garfield! Nice job, and you made my day.

  • This is so inspirational.....

  • @98thProductions Also, if those students attend public high schools and that protest took place on a school day, think of all the wasted tax payer money.

  • @98thProductions I am, however I also understand that federal funding is what is driving the price gouging of our education system. Now, if they are protesting budget cuts on a state level, that is one thing, but I assume they are protesting against federal budget cuts. If they want to protest that, amend the constitution.

  • Great work guys! You give me hope for this country. Look up fractional reserve banking and watch the animated short film "The American Dream".. it tells of mass corruption by banks which leads to these cuts in education, etc.

The people, united.. will never be defeated! Thank YOU!

  • I love it!

  • Easy to protest against budget cuts when you don't pay taxes...

  • @DrCube

Easy not to care about education when you're not in school.

  • @TheMadcapSyd I am in school, and having to work 3 jobs because federal funding is lacking. But you know what, that is fine because it is the fault of federal funding that tuition prices are so high.

  • @DrCube wow, asshole alert...

  • this makes me so happy! when i was in high school nobody gave a shit about anything like this. the youth are starting to WAKE UP! welcome to the future!

  • RESIST INJUSTICE!!!

  • Wilder, I am so proud of you and your classmates. Long live the new revolution !

  • I am so proud of you kids... you are our future, keep that fire in your hearts!!

  • oh man, these must be the dirty hippies the MSM was warning us about? should these KIDS go take a shower and get a job Rush BIMBO???

  • Brought tears to my eyes... Thank God that these kids are our future! You all give us hope..PROPS to GHS

  • This is awesome. Democracy. This is what Democracy looks like.

  • Tough look bikers.

  • Not associated with Occupy

  • Get all the Seattle schools involved and do this twice a month!

  • Great Job! Join us to take the port Dec. 12!

  • I am so proud of you, remember you are going to be able to vote soon. Always make yourself be heard, you have the ability to get this under control. Volunteer at nonprofits, look to trying to get intiatives passed but most important remember that this is your future and it is in your hands. You are the future.

  • @CrucibleRobot amen to that...more schools and children should speak up and understand what's happening around them. =)

  • Excellent. Great work kids, keep it up!

  • Occupy not the best word to use for a movement

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman - “The true test of a first-rate mind is the ability to hold two contradictory ideas at the same time.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald

  • @Disinfotainment War has been declared :)

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman I thought the same thing at first. I understand now that we must "occupy" the space first physically, and then, ultimately, metaphorically to allow for vitally important local, national, and global discussions. So far so good.

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman Occupy Everywhere

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman

Such an argument comes with good intention since we have ugly history of imperial and colonial occupations. But such an argument also comes from ignorance about our own history of struggles and how ordinary people fought back against injustice because we have plenty of history where workers have occupied factories and students have occupied schools. The word "occupy" doesn't simply mean what you think it might mean.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky I know :) like most words, they have multiple meanings and it is up to the individual to interprete how they choose. Just saying may not be the best word legally speaking! And just cause i said that, does not mean I'm agaisn't any protests! As people claim that america illegally invaded and occupied and still are occupying the middle east. And if peeps really cared, BURN THE MONEY in demonstration or themselves, the tibetans know how to protest dramatically hey?!

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman

I know what you mean. But I think it have more to do with how we are used to the term rather than how we interprete it. Those who are politically active and are knowledgeable about the history of labor and student movement probably won't consider "occupy" as "misleading" term. "Occupation" have been part of important tactics of struggles for students and workers not only in the States but also in Europe too.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky To me the confusion with the word comes into play when reading the oxford english dictionary and then cross referencing the word, occupy, in a law dictionary!

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman

I don't think Oxford English dictionary and other sources will confuse people that when people are already educated and knowledgeable about the term's other usage in relation to history of resistance and struggle. Like I said, I think this movement can create that momentum for educations for those who think the term is "confusing" because of its association with imperial domination.

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman

I think the best way to embrace the term is to educate people. There are various "teach-in" in Occupy movement and there are educations going on about the history of our struggles where "occupation" have been common tactic. I think this can help people approach such term rather than interpretiting it only as imperial domination. I think that's much better than trying to come up with different term like they tried to do in somewhere east coast.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky Occupy lsx are recieving funds, but the question has been asked where is this funding going? Back into the banks!? Hypocracy is rife. And also within the occupy lsx movement the body of rules made up for the occupiers are dictated by a board of people who do not even stay at the camp. Hi-jacked!

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman

Occupy movement does receive funds from those who supports it. They are from U.S. and also even from activists in Spain and Egypt as solidarity. Lots of money are going into things that are needed for Occupy movement like foods and shelters. Banks? I don't know about that. There are those who do stay in camp(there aren't that much left thanks to police) and there are those are in and out like myself. I don't know how that's being "hi-jacked".
