  • World today need more advanced and open minded teachers! Thank you for posting!

  • bravoooo........namaste....

  • It all means about as much as being able to dunk a basketball. Less than 1% of those

who take up astanga will even be able to reasonably perfect the 1st series. So someone has flexible hips and hamstrings, whoopdeedo!

  • just wondering which level / series liberates one from samsara?

  • @DharmaWarrior108 haha i wish this question had an answer..i used to ask the same..its a long journey for what i know..but no price too high to pay to get our arse off of this place lol

  • thank you to your wonderful great energy practice..and thank you for reminding us about living with the well preparing before we leave this world..Namaste

  • @skylarmatthew Thankyou for your comment ;-) Namaste

  • That was remarkable. I am a student of Yoga and have studied Ashtanga Yoga with my Guru Sheshadri of Mysore ans Saraswati Jois of The Yoga Research Institute. I thought that the sixth series was a secret, passed down only to the late great Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and perhaps now to his grandson, Sharath and daughter Saraswati. Is this true or legend.

Mark, may I ask you where you are located and do you offer classes or seminars?

May I also assume you studied with Pattabhi Jois?

    Blessings,

    Nancy

  • @nancyom100 Yes 5th and 6th series are mostly unknown except for Sharath and I imagine Saraswati. It was originally Advanced A & B and later made into A,B,C,D. I teach at the Gold Coast Yoga Centre on the Gold Coast, Australia, go to the goldcoastyogacentre website if you'd like more info. I teach workshop overseas and in other places within Australia. I have had the fortune to study with Pattabhi Jois but he was not my main teacher. I hope this helps, thankyou for your enquiry.

    Mark

  • Very impressive. I have just begun to practice Ashtanga. How long does it typically take the "average" person to perfect the Primary series and move on to the second series? Thanks.

  • @soul0luos That's a hard one to answer but I guess one year is a good "average" but obviously some people move through quicker and others need a long, long time on primary, which is wonderful in itself. Enjoy primary, it contains the essence of the whole practice.....

  • Very Inspiring and for those who feel they cannot do or ever really will be able to even complete the first series keep in mind that what Guruji taught that the whole ideal of the Practice is to sit on your mat and be pure. Only a chosen few are not required to do the asanas to do so the rest of us have to march through the Asanas to obtain enlightenment, so in a playful way is Mark further along or needing more asanas to find the purity :)

  • @TheMasterPizzaChef Thankyou for your comment:-)

  • it seems that you do all the postures with such an ease...really inspirational and motivating, thx for posting

  • @MsAndreisita Thankyou for commenting!!

  • Thank you for posting! ; )

  • @amessage Thankyou for your comment

  • I practiced ay for years and could do many of these postures in this video.

Big deal. It didn't confer any special spiritual mojo and I don't expect it to do anything for me when I die. Yoga is good for you in moderation, but there's so much silliness and superstition packed along with it, even today.

  • @MrSsfsfsf Agreed

  • About the intro:This is Buddhist Chanting in Pali of the Theravada tradition. What does it have to do with the scrolling words? it is the chant of taking refuge in the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha.

  • @katannuto Thanks, I thought so, I just liked the sound.

  • พุทธัง สรณัง คัจฉามิ

    ธัมมัง สรณัง คัจฉามิ

    สังฆัง สรณัง คัจฉามิ

    ทุติยัมปิ พุทธัง สรณัง คัจฉามิ lol i know this chant!

  • @thisispin Thankyou

  • Hey mark,

I've always heard (or assumed) that Kandasana is the first pose of fifth series. But, in your video and in a few other people's practice of fourth, they have it after Omkarasana. Is kandasana the last official pose of fourth series?

  • @rcsynergy Yes Kandasana is the first posture in 5th, you are correct, 4th finishes at Omkarasana. I just put it in as a continuation of 4th. Didn't want to confuse anyone. The one after Kandasana is Krouchakasana, that is a real heart-stopper. Thankyou for the question.

  • @goldcoastyogacentre will you post more of you doing fifth series?

  • Thankoo for the incredible inspiration.. ;-) Love long and prosper....:-) :-) ;-)

  • Hi, thank you for sharing this video. It is really inspirational to watch the practice of the more advanced series of Ashtanga. I would really like to know what the chanting is during the Encouraging words section? Om Shanti...........

  • Where can i get this Chanting on audio and what is this chant? Thank you!

  • @Satcurator I am not sure what the very first chanting is but the next one is from Ravi Shankar on Chants of India, Vedic chanting...

  • I've watched this a few times now Mark and it's an inspiration...

  • fat bitches like me wont be able to achieve this. time to shred the lbs.

  • thank you,really great video

  • Have been a big fan of Santina's Videos, can't believe I've missed this one 'till now. Inspiring stuff, not just that the poses but the manner in which they're approached, that you can still see the work that's gone into them. Plus I haven't been able to get these words out of my head all week. Hope it's OK to embed it on my blog, saw you said it was OK below.

  • Thank you for the inspiration, it's really great!

  • Congratulations. God Bless you.

  • thanks v.beautiful and moving

  • Thank you mark

  • And what if you really don't wish to continue, and think that if death came today, that would be a good thing?

  • @MsSherylHolmes That's okay isn't it, there is a saying in Zen that we should live each day as if it were our last....

  • Amazing

  • well, the chanting track itself was used in the Series 6 Feet Under during a Buddhist Funeral Ceremony. the episode is Season 2, Episode 10 "The Secret". You can find it on You Tube.

  • Cam, really nice editing job!

  • I think you would make a great grappler. No one could ever submit you. :)

  • Thanks mark, a well needed resource. Inspiring and very moving. Gets me back on the mat.
