Yes I am sure you would or could be a better Senator. Just curious. How is a committed, hard working, articulate, intelligent Senator with strong morals, an embarrassment to Utah?
Deficit spending leads to long term pain for short term benefit. Balancing the budget leads to short term pain for long term benefit. these are not a binary relationship, instead there is a continuum between this short term gain and long term gain. Within this continuum there is a optimal solution. the question should be, "what is the best breakdown between long term deficit reduction and short term spending to lead to the fastest recovery." People have to stop oversimplifying problems.
Please support the Jobs legislation proposed by President Obama and stop this political posturing! We need to work together as hasn't been done this year; we are in crisis. More than half of our family is either teaching or in construction and jobs are threatened. Help us, please!
@mjjenness I'm sorry your jobs are threatened, but you are not alone, and government jobs should not be immune from being threatened. Everyone's jobs are threatened. The mere idea that your family is more entitled to their job than others who aren't employed in government is repulsive. We don't need even more unprofitable government spending to increase the employment in our country. Government never creates profit - it never contributes to the GDP. This new jobs bill can't create more jobs
Obama is driving policy from the failed FDR playbook. FDR put the 'great' in the Great Depression. Stop the wars, stop the deficit spending, reform entitlements and privatize them as much as possible. We have too many people living off the confiscated wealth of others, the system is collapsing.
Funny how people forget how much Bush had to do with putting this country in debt. Spending hundreds of trillion on two wars...no republicans or republican supporters said anything then. But now Obama wants to try to put Americans to work and this is a bad thing? You say the unemployment rate is 9% then do something about it. I have not heard one ideal or plan from a republican since President Regan. STOP with the grandstanding and HELP AMERICAN PEOPLE!!
@JoeCool101 Obama has continued Bush's policies for the most part - war and spending. Loyal Republicans defended Bush while loyal Democrats rightly attacked him. However when Obama came to power and continued Bush's nonsense, Democrats said nothing while Republicans went on the attack. This is the trap of thinking party, not policy. There are new people in Congress who are thinking policy over party and demanding a change in our national course. More spending will not save America.
Funny how people like you seem to think Bush is still president. He hasn't been in office for years now. What matters now is what Obama is doing.
You accuse Republicans of turning a blind eye to Bush's sins, yet you do the same thing with Obama's sins by continuing to deflect the discussion to what Bush did years ago. Obama was elected to change what Bush did, yet has perpetuated pretty much all that Bush did and made it worse.
I agree with you completely. Nothing new from Obama but the same failed policies. People that are ignorant about economic stimulus should read an article on Keynesianism. Do a Google search for "Consumerism Is Keynesianism" and read up. Also search on Ron Paul while you're at it.
Did he even listen to the speech? Want to solve the deficit problem? ..get aggressive with closing massive tax loopholes on the biggest lobbying corporations.....DONE! ....and remember that this will not affect the biggest job creators: SMALL business!!
Um...Did you listen to the presidents speech? From what he said everything will be paid for by moving expenditures around (or at least a portion). For instance, closing business tax loopholes and subsidies to provide tax incentives to businesses that hire workers.
Secondly, the best way to close the deficit is to grow the economy. your message seems to be about doing nothing to jump start economic growth, while criticizing the president for doing nothing (makes no sense).
Thank you, senator, for continuing to push the importance of the Balanced Budget Amendment. This is something that needs to happen, and needs to happen soon. I hope that legislators in both parties, and the independents, will come to see how important this is.
Keep up the good work.POTUS had one thing to say that made sense. People cannot wait for 14 months for a solution we need to start now.
You must feel that each day with the Dems is like playing wack a mole on steroids. The budget, illegals, unions, gun running ,total lack of control of the taxpayers money and the Constitution every backdoor cicumventing the congress tactic known to man. Just keep trying. You are smarter then they are. That will account for something.

"It's Bush's fault" just doesn't cut it anymore.
