when i was a kid, my parents bought 2 VHS video's of music with Hanna-Barbera cartoon clips, several songs were popular like the beach boys surfin on top of the world, the song Teddy Bear, and carious others. i was wondering if anyone else remembered them as well because i can't find those tapes anymore and was wondering if anyone else knew about them. the reason i asked is that the last song on another video i swear used the exact same animation as the one listed here.
This animation looks VERY similar to the Yellow Submarine movie. I think it's a German artist. Great song awesome video! thanks for the upload my friend.
This song does a great job at expressing the enigma that love so often presents.
We want to release the "faded memory" of unrequited love yet we still hang onto the days of enchantment. I often reflect upon the few women that I once felt romantic love for even though it's history.
So...Janos Vitez (aka Johnny Corncob in USA), released 1973; PannoniaFilmStudio (Hungary); Marcell Jankovics as director, screenplay, and one of the half-dozen animators. No dign of Peter Maxx, but the film (in 6 parts on YouTube, and no, you don't need the language to "get it") shows the influence of many comtemporaries: Maxx, Disney, others...VERY COOL. Too bad we (in N.A.) so often...never get to see so much of so many Others' COOL STUFF... pity.
Oka-a-ay....The guy who did the animation for the Beatles' Yellow Submarine film was...Peter Maxx. That's all I ever heard of, about him. But...the guy was a genius, and THIS stuff looks JUST LIKE him. He may have had a subsequent creative career...IN EUROPE, and been brought in on a Hung. /Hanna-Barbera film project. Why not?! Dig around...follow your nose, and solve this mystery once and for all!!
@BayByPackrat my first thought was yellow sub, as well. in fact, the beatles almost gave the red light on that film cos they were afraid it was gonna come out "too saturday morning cartoon-ish." or so i've heard.
yeah. poco is pretty rockin. itskind to know so that so many ppl are touched by it. i remember this song and album cover from y childhood, when i was a mere toddler. crazy, huh? lol, that pun was not intention yet funny nonetheless.
Looks like it's the same animation house or director responsible for the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" film animation. Not sure their name, but if you could find that out, I'm sure it'd be a start to figuring out what this is from...
LOVE the song - I first heard some minimally released cover version of it in the mid-90s on a country station in Dallas and on CMT (same way I found out about "Wichita Lineman"), and it occupies a little corner of happiness in my heart.
I own the video that contains all the animations, the one in question. I cant for the love of me find it, so sorry I cant remember the name of the actual tape, but I will say thanks for uploading, ive been looking for this animation for at least 10 years. The vid I own has a different song for the vid however. Thanks man.
I've always loved this song. It's played frequently on the Muzak where I work. It reminds me of when I was just about to graduate from high school. I will be debuting it at karaoke tomorrow night!
Thank you for taking the time to tell me. I did learn about it back at the beginning, but those posts have scrolled pretty far back now, so it's good to have it up front again! :)
While eating at a McDonalds, thinking of someone that I need to get over while she knows that I want to be with her. This song came oame on the radio. Wow..talk about getting a sign!
It's a beautiful song.
If you get a chance.."Call it Love" by Poco is also an awesome song.
yeah, this song can bring tears to anyone, including me...no matter what age you are! the lyrics are sad...a haunting ballad. i discovered the song channel surfing on the radio on day and it just captured me^^
I want to second Troubador's comments. Poco was one of the greatest groups to emerge from the late 60s and into the 70s, musically speaking. They never really found their breakout hit or "voice" in the manner of many groups with less talent. It's a shame, because there's so much GREAT music on their albums. This is one of their finest. Rusty Young can hold his own with the best songwriters/storytellers. See them if and when you can!
Well, the group Poco has been around for a while. Off and on since 1968. Their music has many facets. They have gone though personel chagnes, but two original members Rusty Young and Paul Cotton along with recent members Jack Sundrud and George Lawrence, still tour all over the US and sometimes Europe. "Crazy Love" was their biggest radio hit and came out the late 70's.
I agree. I think it was because I was mesmerized by how well the animation told a story that went with the song that I went to so much trouble to try to find out where it came from. It IS a beautiful song!
A story for the heart. It really shows the power of love. Wonder if he ever broke away? Really good stuff. Saw them on tour in 1971. Damn, that was a while back and they can still hold their own. Was Richie Furay the writer? Looked thru the old vinyl and could ony find Pickin' up the Pieces'(1969) Peace.
I think that's a good idea. We don't know the details of how HB was connected with the Hungarian company, but the work DID come out on a HB video, so it's fair to make the connection.
OK, if anyone really must know, it's "Johnny Corncob", Hungary's first animated feature, though I don't know why it's used for this video at all since H-B had no part in it. I guess they just needed something to go with the song anyway and had some stock footage lying around.
Thank you so much for IDing this! Once I had the title, I did some Googling, and the connection seems to be explained on a Seals and Croft page. (use Johnny Corncob, Seals and Croft as search terms to find the page. You Tube won't let me post the link.)
I am guessing either they got an option on the US release of Johnny Corncob that they never followed up on, or someone working on the Country Rock videos just found the film sitting around and assumed they could use it.
This song makes me cry idk y though?
