Aren't these ancient woodlands in UK listed as protected areas? Or is this one and only tree that is left uncut suppose to represent that "protected" biodiversity?

Only 15% of ancient woodland are designated as sites of special scientific interest in the UK - which are the national protected areas. The rest are theoretically protected in national policy but we know of over 400 ancient woods under threat from development because if authorities feel there's an overriding economic or social need for the development they can ignore the need to protect this irreplaceable habitat

Sadly emilyhoward this is not true - ancient woodland has often been around since the last ice age and because it has taken centuries if not millennia to develop once lost it's lost forever. It can't be replaced with new planting - it can be helped by new planting nearby though.

I have two points:

Grow forests into cities, instead of cities into forests.

Don't talk with tree-slaughters, chainsaw them, it take less time to save trees like this, or you'll never be there to save the last tree. In fact, it take less time chopping a 300 years tree than convincing a butthole to think.

Developers like to build on green belt as it's cheaper and easier for them. Our council just saved some woodland from development, but the developers will appeal. Don't give up, keep fighting however many times they appeal, otherwise it's gone, concreted over and ruined forever. Great video, great music even though it was used for the baddies!
