There is no such thing as Tarmac at any airfield anywhere anymore (except one in England) the term is wrong and only makes you and the news people who like to use it sound stupid or wanna be people "in the know!" Aircraft are at ramps/gates, taxiways and runways. The surfaces are concrete or asphalt.
I got to see and go inside the B-17 F Boeing restored a few years ago at Boeing field in Seattle when it was touring the US. If the B-29 that is being restored is the same B-29 that was sitting on the tarmac by the Museum of Flight I have some pictures of what it looked like before it was restored. When the plane comes to Seattle I will the first in line to see it, keep up the great work guys the plane is looking great :-)
Any word on the Doc project for 2010-beyond? Not much on the web anymore, nothing current that is...I guess engines are the biggest challenge at the moment?
And it's very small. The Super Connie has an turbine APU that runs with gasoline. It's five times bigger with all the housing around and makes a hell of a noise... but I like it :-)
I had to deliver auto parts ot the airport in Pittsburgh and I saw the plane the Montreal Canadians came in on, an Air Canada 737, and they were still running the APU in the tail, it was a gas turbine until. Very noisy.
i wonder if you could put one in a motorcycle or small car.
