  • Actually it is running on third rail power. it uses the third rail from Penn Station to Poughkeepsie, then switches to diesel on the fly. why do u think they have to switch engines at Albany? for the hell of it??

  • how many coaches did it have?

  • are u sure thats not running on third rail? that line is a prime canidate for amtrak to do that.

plus it looks like there's something different inbetween the trucks like there's something there...

  • interesting

  • Was this amtrak locomotive running on eleetric in this seen? The noise of the locomotive sounded diffrent. It had to have been a GE P32AC-DM you can tell by the number on the locomotive.

  • it was not running on the thirld rail electric

  • @dumbbuff That's not a bad idea, though. Third rail equipped P32/P40/P42 locos.

  • @gibb1991 P32s do have third rail shoes on them. Amtrak uses them in Penn Station as the shoes are for over lining third rails (or whatever they're called) but MNRR's P32s are for underlining third rails which is what the Hudson line has so Amtrak can't use them.

  • @adooma1984 p32ac-dm is locomotives #700 to 718 p42dc are numbered 1 to 207 aem-7 eletrics are numbered in the 900s and hpp8 eletrics are numbered in the 600s switchers are numbered in the 500s and upper 700s

  • I love that view. :D
