I watched the last episodes on DVD with the commentary, and they really wanted to put Prue's pictures in the montage, but their budget had been cut for the last season and they couldn't afford the payment to have Shannon in the actual episode. They were disappointed, but they tried all they could to keep Pure in the finale.

It had something to do with legal issues...the reason they didn't use it. One reason no images of Shannen or why Shannen herself never did another cameo. She didn't want anything to do with the show.

Brad Kern himself told in Charmed Magazine that he didn't even bother asking Shannen for the finale. And the budget the show got each year was known. The WB always gave less each new season which is why the producers had to cut down on some stuff, even their own paychecks so that they could all spend it on the important stuff.

Shannen could have appeared if Brad asked.

Yes, they did. During the eighth and even during some of the seventh season, theWB started airing "Classic Charmed", which was just reruns of Charmed (season three and some of season four).

Charmed had also been airing through reruns on TNT for years, and TNT airs the entire series.

Actually if you pause the video at 0:33, and take a look at the top center photo, its a picture of Andy and Prue. The photo was from season 1 which was on top of Prue's desk at Bucklands. They couldn't fully show that photo based on what you said but can get away with it cause it isn't a clear focus unless you pause the video. Check it out.

I agree! What was wrong with them?! If they'd used the picture of Emmalee Thompson as Little Prue, it would've touched so many of Prue fans (and just fans in general for that matter). Even if they couldn't afford to pay Shannen (I still think they just didn't want to), they could've used Emmalee and it would've been one of the best honors to the character of Prue that we ever could've gotten.

Shannon Doherty did not want her image in the show at all after she left so thats why it seems like she never existed. The writers also didn't want the focus on her during the finale.

They could have paid her to use it in the finale and they owed it to the fans to do at least that, but as far as I'm concerned, they screwed us.

I'm just thankful for brilliant people like Alex who can do video manips like this one. It's too bad the real fans didn't work for the show. It wouldn't have ended up the way it did.

Using an actor's image in the show makes them accountable for a full episode's fee and the studio could not afford that because of serious budget cuts in the last few seasons. Besides Shannon strongly refused to have her as part of the show since she had left.

I understand that they must pay them for the whole episode and given that they had the budget to pay everyone else for an entire reunion, I believe that, knowing it was their last season, they should have and could have cut back on things in season eight, special effects for example, and saved up the money to give the show a proper send off with actual pictures of Prue. The fans deserved that closure.

Also, concerning Shannen, she refused to allow them to use her image initially, but by the series finale, she had cooled off enough to let them use a picture of her if she was paid. Kern simply refused to do this. (He also refused to call her and ask if she was willing to be back for the epside which he has publically admitted, so we will never know if she would have been willing to come back for the "reunion" in the first place.)

I've really enjoyed watching this over and over. This is the way the show should have ended...and I loved the pic of Prue and Andy in the beginning! It's too bad that Shannen couldn't have been more reasonable with letting the show use her image, it really would have made the ending much more complete. I just wish there was some way to super-impose this ending onto the dvd.

I agree. The worst she could've done was said no, but he still should've asked. I would've much rather had Shannen than Wyatt and Chris for the "reunion." It would've been amazing if Piper had used Coop's ring to travel back in time and get Prue's help to fix things. And the wall, it could've been something along the lines of the one Alex did. Ugh, just thinking about Kern ticks me off something fierce. He ruined everything IMO.

I loved that you used the Patty, Little Prue, and Little Piper picture that Phoebe took in "That 70's Episode" (it made me sad that said picture "vanished" after that episode) and the original P3 picture was so awesome! The only thing I wish you would've added was a lone picture of Prue on the wall, sort of like the one big lone one of Grams. But other than that, I think it was perfect!
