If you don't want to use actual nails, you can use a safer alternative and glue on q-tips with the fluffy ends removed that have been painted silver. That's what they used for the film, actually!

Instead of nails you should use hairs from a broom. Because if you fall or something, it could get really ugly.and so could you in the future.

try tissue paper instead of the powder and then cover it with more liquid latex. It will help create a permenant mask that you can put on and take off multiple times and when you take it off after creating it add the powder to the mask so it doesn't stick to itself. then all you have to do is add some latex around the boarder and color it when you put it back on to hold it in place. stick the pins in so the heads are facing out (after you take it off) latexing them to the mask from the inside.
